Canary Breeches

Where in the great USA can I find a pair of canary breeches? 28L, possibly 30L–depending on stretch–in case you’ve got a pair for sale ;). I know TS and Ariat at one time made canary, but it sounds like it was years ago and I’d rather not order an international brand that may or may not be the right fit and mess with high shipping costs.

I’d love to wear them for Opening Hunt at the end of October!

AFAIK, Horse Country still sells them but they are godawful expensive. Equiessential also used to sell them, but I don’t know if they still do. And I THINK I might have seen canary on the Horze website.

Do you have a good belt?

These are all I found that aren’t in England (32L, cotton moleskin, peg-top, button fly):

Hah! I can’t believe those are only half-peg. Whew–$350? Must be that top of the line cotton moleskin.

I haven’t tried canary yet, but I did dye an old pair of breeches rust. It turned out very well- the knee patches didn’t take the dye, but the contrast looks pretty cool.

Maybe you could try dyeing an old pair of white breeches?

I’m considering doing this, but since I don’t have white I’d try some tan ones. I think my biggest fear is finding the right shade of yellow so I don’t look like the yellow submarine on horseback.

Lucinda Green by Horseware had an amazing pair of canary breeches albeit hard to find in the US.

Neddy’s has a canary breech in full and knee patch versions, their sizing is ridiculous, so be prepared to buy size 34+ to fit size 28.

I will check my box of hunting clothes. Some years back I bought a pair of canary Ariat breeches that I’d hoped to use for hunting. However 1) I haven’t hunted much lately, and 2) I’m not sure I still fit well in a 28  If they don’t fit I’ll let you know. They’ve never been worn. The yellow seemed a bit bright tome, my plan was to wash them and hang them out on the line for a week or so.

I followed up on the Lucinda Green breeches when I first started looking to no avail . They are so lovely and seeing this picture really lit the fire under my tush to get a pair.

I’ll have to look into Neddy’s–do you own their breeches? That sizing does seem a bit silly.

Hinderella, that would be much appreciated! Please keep me updated on whether you find them/are ready to part with them. Are they long by chance? Regular might fit though I worry a bit about the knee patch at 5’9".

Oh my! I just sold a pair of the canary buckskin breeches from Horse Country for less than 450.00 - they were $895.00 and your size! Worn one hunt only…(holding a tissue out for you)

Wow! What is it like to hunt in buckskin breeches? Is there stretch?

I almost got my hands on some 28L canary breeches on eBay but forgot about them until the bidding had ended and I’ve been on the look out ever since.

For $65 (includes shipping from the UK) I’d probably just pick these up: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shires-SaddleHugger-Ladies-Breeches-/151585992590?var=&hash=item234b3aaf8e:m:m0oDBmnxB7kM51nV3Z9eTUQ

I’m your size (wear a 30 most comfortably in Smartpak Pipers, but tend to prefer a 28 in most other brands) and have a pair of Shires breeches in a 28. I’d probably buy a 30 in these, knowing that I could put long johns under them in cold weather, or get them tailored for $10 if they were just too big.

Okay fashion experts- should I be looking for canary too? I just procured a navy (almost black) shadbelly that I plan to wear for opening hunt. So I guess canary breeches would be most proper with the navy? And what about glove color/type when wearing canary? And is the stock tie still white? Or champagne? Thank you!!

$850 breeches!

Maybe I shouldn’t look into Hunting after all… I couldn’t swing that – that’s more than my horse cost me!

Well, those that hunt and those that like to dress up… Each has fun.

I’ve just looked at the Shires website and the yellow SaddleHugger jods are only £29.99 brand new, so perhaps go and have a look at their US website.

A navy blue shad with a canary vest and canary breeches would be stunning. With those, you would want wash leather gloves–i.e chamois colored.

Roeckl has some beautiful chamois gloves I’ve been eyeing and you absolutely should be looking for some canary breeches to go with your shad, woodstock. To help facilitate . Additionally, SmartPak (finally) carries them in camel, which are also very smart in the hunt field.

The Shires only come in regular length and I’m looking for contrast knee patch because I am difficult like that and prefer the look to the solid canary. But those are a great find for someone who does like the solid canary and I very much appreciate the sizing advice!

Honestly your best bet is just to order from England, trust me, even with shipping I’d imagine you’d come out paying less than $100.00

Any of these sites should be able to get you what you need!

Bearing in mind there is a big horse show in England next week, they may take a little longer to respond that normal.

All my banana leg breeches are from England I always get people asking me where I got them from!
