CANTER horses from Hong Kong?

Perusing the CANTER site :), I see some horses that were brought from Hong Kong. Is that " a thing" now? The horses looked pretty nice.

link?

I shudder to think of what happens to the majority of racehorses in China, etc. These are the lucky ones. Turf racing is big over there, like Europe, so wouldn’t surprise me if they are very nice individuals with great potential. Definitely lucky escapees!

I just fell in love with Fast Rocket’s kind face, then I read he has a conjunctival graft as did my old mare. If I was looking for a horse I would take that as a sign…but I’m not :(. I hope he finds a nice place to call home.

You are destined to get that horse.
In for a dribble if you want him.

Oh, thank you for the offer WWW! But I have no room at the inn and my arthritis sort of prohibits me from handling the bigger horses (I have ponies now). He just struck me as such a kind looking guy. And that eye! Same exact spot as my mare. The graft looks as if it is a newer one, my mares looked like that at first but it then turned a more whitish shade after a year or so. I hope he finds his “person” soon.

Love the long elegant necks on some of them. Esp Everyday Lettus.

Find someone to take him and I’ll contribute.
If I could find a nice mare or two, I’d take them for myself. (No breeding, just like mares.)

China has a growing polo scene, which requires large numbers of horses, so I would imagine many come from the racetracks. When I lived in Thailand the sport horses we rode were often OTTBs, some from the Thai tracks and some from Australia that had been retrained and imported. Nevertheless, I’m happy to see a big batch come stateside.

Bernard’s Choice looks like an athletic number.

The h/j barn I rode at for years goes to shows here a lot. An old friend bought the Manhattan Striker horse,I haven’t seen him in person but he’s apparently a big-boned solid kinda guy.

Hard to keep track of a lot of the horses that are imported into HK and other tracks in the region since many of the owners like changing the names of the horses. One of the Canter HK horses has the terrible name of “Everyday Lettuce”- I looked him up out of curiosity only to discover he doesn’t exist under that name in Equineline or Equibase. His original name is “Abscent Friends”.
He’s mentioned in this article on name changes for HK horses- http://www.scmp.com/sport/racing/article/2061855/so-fanny-everyday-lettuce-how-can-hong-kong-horse-names-be-taken

Interesting! I want an OTTB but unfortunately for me, there are not many around (there is CANTER AZ but not very active). I know i could have one shipped but its expensive and seems crazy! but I have been thinking about it for awhile. Anyhow, I think its great that horses from places like HK and PR are coming here for homes.

there are tracks near you that don’t have very active rehoming groups working for them. New mexico has tracks. Try contacting trainers in your area or the CANTER affiliate closest to you and they can help to put you in touch with trainers at the track.

Yes New Mexico. What is the name of that trainer who had the triple crown runner some years ago? He trained, or at least ran his horses out of a New Mexico track. Bet a lot of cheap and maybe even free ottbs can be found there if you go look. Take your trailer.

the guy with Mine that Bird?

Chip Wooley sent out Mine That Bird for the 2009 KD.

D Wayne Lukas was his last trainer of record.

Yeah, there are tracks in AZ and surrounding states (I’ve been to all of them!) but its easier to have a group like FLF or CANTER. One thing I found when I was working at my small local track was if you asked how much they’d sell the horse for, it was usually at least double the claiming price
