The driver was hauling 38 horses and allegedly fell asleep at the wheel. 
Anyone ever heard of Three Angels Farm? 38 horses? That’s a big bunch of horses in one load.
Why is it legal to haul horses in cattle haulers in the US?

I can’t understand how in the world you get 38 HORSES IN ONE TRAILER! Seriously… a short roofed cattle trailer at that.

My trailer had a 12 horse trailer which was a beast… super long.
Over three times that many horses in one rig? Mind boggling. If it isn’t criminal, it should be.

One news source says that “several” horses were killed but doesn’t go into any further details. It sounds like they just started unloading the horses about an hour ago, which was about four hours after the wreck happened.
This makes me sick. Jingling for the horses and only for the horses.
I find that taking four hours to begin unloading the horses to be truly inhumane. What a mess.
Somewhere between the do-gooders that have made horse slaughter more difficult, and the Wall Street bankers that have stolen so much from all Americans ($$ that could have gone to every state to help improve anything but more Wall St. bankers), I find the level of inhumane behavior to be so sad and depressing. We don’t treat our children much better. They may not get loaded up in overcrowded cattle trucks, but they do get left in horrible situations way too often.

Don’t know about there, but it is not legal to bring horses over the border in those double decker cattle trailers for slaughter. But, it happens, and they do get through the border…though lax enforcement.

It is a 2006 Freightliner tractor trailer-------------I’ve heard that 4 are dead and God only knows what mess there is in the trailer and outside. Many local vets are on site. Three Angels Farm in Lebanon supposedly owns the horses. Wonder if that owner will be prosecuted because that cannot be legal to stuff that many horses into that kind pf trailer. Is there even ventilation? Used to be a guy in the kill business in Lebanon named Lil’ Tex--------wonder if that is his place--------can’t remember the name of it.

Was it a cattle trailer or a semi trailer? I understood on Ch 5 it was a trailer. Either way, it is way wrong and I’ll bet it is Lil’ Tex
According to channel 4, the horses were indeed headed to slaughter before the accident (I’m guessing Mexico?). Surviving horses are being taken to Dickson Stockyard to determine what will be done with them. Hopefully someone will step in here and help these animals out. Please folks - don’t be foolish enough to believe that a slaughter house in the US will prevent people from overloading these trailers. The more horses they can cram into the trailers the more profit they make. A 2 hr drive or a 2 day drive - neither should be acceptable.

I hope they can keep them as “evidence” but most likely owner is already looking for another rig to send the survivors on to their destination.
We had these same type of accidents when there were SH here in the US.
Transport to slaughter via DD is banned. However the KBs just pretend the horses aren’t going to slaughter, so DD are legal in most states .

As to why it took four hours to get the horses out…many reasons possible I suppose.
I can’t see if it’s a doubledecker from the pictures.
However, I think we have had enough of bad reporting to jump to any conclusions.
The driver fell asleep. Why does anybody want to charge the farm?!

The owner of the trailer is “the farm”. If they overloaded they can be charged.
In past incidents, the driver’s name has always been published.
