It looks like he has a better post position this time.
It’s a very evenly matched race. You could make a case for just about any horse in the field winning. It will be exciting to see how he does!
For a moment, I thought he was going to keep rolling.
I keep hoping they’ll take the blinkers off, I think it would benefit him a lot.
He just didn’t have any turn of foot down the stretch. It wasn’t an overly hot pace either. He tries every time though.
CT will be getting a well deserved rest at Silver Springs Farm, as well as a once over by Dr. Sutter.
No word just yet on how long of a break he’ll get.
He is done for the year. Bone bruising in fetlocks, needs time off. I hope he comes back freshened next year.
It sounds like he’s in good hands! This is a pipe dream, but wouldn’t it be fun if we could all make a farm tour to meet him (and each other)?
Any thoughts on whether he should keep his jewels? I’m inclined towards gelding, but I understand the hope that he might be of interest to someone looking for a good regional stallion prospect.
He’s not worth anything as a stallion right now, not even in a regional market.
Oh I know. I was speculating that the MRH principals may be holding off on gelding in the hopes that he might progress considerably at 4.
OTOH, he doesn’t seem to be at all studdish and none of the reports on him indicate problems with attention span.
My mindset is if his jewels aren’t a problem for him or making it a challenge to care for him, then there is no harm in keeping them. They can always come off later.
But… a lot of horses improve after gelding. He certainly has ability, but could stand to improve a bit, which makes a good argument for gelding him now.
His odds of becoming of a Kentucky stallion at this point are about as good as any of us winning the lottery. So like you said, if he improves a lot off his R&R, they might find him a stallion job outside KY. I personally wouldn’t base my management decisions on that slight chance. If he already had something on his resume that would guarantee interest from breeders, I would consider things differently.
Silver Springs does allow visitors.
Not sure how one goes about setting it up, if you need to contact MRH or the farm.
But I know other MRH micrshare owners that have gone & visited “their” horses while on R&R at the farm.
Ooops! While CT is having some well deserved down time I wound up buying shares in three more of the new offerings. It’s true–they are just like potato chips. You can’t have just one.
Our boy raced today. SPOILER ALERT:
He came in 6th of 7. Slow break for him, gained good position, nothing in the stretch, though.
Finished 6th.
Bad hop at the start left him 6/7 lengths behind, so he was used a bit to get up into a decent position.
Fractions were definitely solid.
He just came up short at the end.
Not having many works going into this race, off the long lay-off hurt him, but I think he’ll have gotten a lot out of the race & should improve next time out.
May need a bit more distance too.
Our boy is in again Saturday at Oaklawn, race 9!
6 furlongs is, IMO a bit too short for him. Hoping he proves me wrong.
The last race I regard as a throwout due to the poor start.
No, I agree. It’s too short.
Not expecting a win, but definitely looking for him to improve off his last start
This is a tough race period. It’s a big field with several evenly matched horses who are a cut above what Chasing Time has been showing lately. While it’s an appropriate place for him, he will still need a fair amount of luck to be competitive today.
