Wow-this is the most interesting thread I have come across. But to the OP , I think you handled it very nicely. I am not sure I would even want that child back on my property. Most kids especially that age are not angels, but if she behaved that way even after the police talked to her-that kind of rings a few bells. Maybe you can have the boys repair the fence and then make sure she does not come back. Feel bad for grandma though to have a sick husband and a troubled pre teen dumped on her at the same time must be harrowing. At least you live in a place where the kid does not have a bunch of similar minded kids to gang up with-that would be worrisome. Hope it works out well…

I also wear a red ribbon in my pony tail… Kids seem to respond just about as well as the horses
ROTFLMAO!!!
Back to the topic at hand, I strongly agree with everyone who said to make sure your SO is NEVER alone with this girl. I have done field placements with the population that this girl is a part of, all I can say is watch out.
Update us soon!! And FWIW I commend you for the patience you have shown, and I think you’re doing a great job dealing with a very difficult situation.

I can’t believe that I just skipped sex with my husband to sit up until 1 am and read this ENTIRE thread. Screw the cookies - give me a margarita …and pass some of that popcorn!!!
Been lurking all 20 pages!
I’ll provide the tequila.

Last night I went out to dinner and had wine - and came back whining. My post resorted to the lowest common denominator - name calling, so while it is ok for Someone to name call, it is not appropriate and I therefore apologise. Felt good, though.
I think we should make a pact and not respond to the stick poking of Someone and then he’d not find any satisfaction. Will be hard to do…
Meanwhile… keep it on topic, people!
Agreed. Must. Not. Type!
Wowie folks- over 400 replies!!! I’m having a hard time keeping up! :o
SO/Gran/entire Dave the farmer’s family including his wife are at home right now with the child mending the fence. Quick report- they boys have been ignoring her after one rude remark too many, and she’s been trying to start a conversation with them. Gran is sitting in the pasture watching. She says that it’s the nicest she’s seen the child. Hmm, peer pressure is a great thing sometimes!
Off to catch up on the rest of the posts.
Oh, sorry for the confusion about the gloves. My bad- I didn’t take time to re read what I’d typed. I should have.
Hopefully a little ignoring from the boys will turn her right around.
Ooh, I’m blushing now! Thank you- Honest, no thought at all. One second she was about the key my truck, the next she was soaking wet and cursing.
kookicat—thanks for checking in–hope all continues well.
Maybe now that she’s discovered the neighborhood boys–she will forget about the horses. Happens to a lot of teenaged girls (not anyone here on this forum, though!).
Actually, the best is peer-pressure from well adjusted, calm, happy children (see, I didn’t use the word kid). When she finds out how hergood behaviour is rewarded, maybe she’ll try a bit. When kids need attention, they will settle for any attention, negative or positive.
I’d love to hear that she’s just a mixed up kid going through an angry phase…but I’m not suggesting that it become your mission
to single-handedly turn things around. We all seem to think (mostly)
that you have been super about this.
Maybe she’ll go back to the city and remember her time in the country with sweet Gran, nice neighbour, decent boys, and start thinking. Oh, yes, I’ve always been an idealistic dreamer.
I’ve been lurking on this thread also since it started.
Kookicat - I sure hope that Artful is right about child getting interested in boys and leaving your horses alone.
Maybe Farmer Dave’s boys will get her to remember whatever manners her mother tried to teach her and make her more tolerable for Granny. We can all hope…
I didn’t word the glove thing very well. My fault really.
I’m very unhappy with this child right now. I have called her lots of choice names. I just choose not to do that on the internet.

I have a feeling the Mommy Dearest didn’t teach her child many manners. (I actually went to school with the child’s mother. MD is a few years older than me, and wasn’t the nicest person then.)
Child already has a social worker, but Gran is having huge problems getting in touch with her. PC Owen is going to try.
…I knew I was a dreamer. Sorry, too bad for you.

I wish you had been right.
How could you! What a terrible thing to do!
We’re in a drought, you know. :lol::lol::lol:
P.S. Please stop feeding the energy creature.

Ack, you got me then!

kookicat…love your new sig line!!!
That is a good sig line!
Honestly, it’s so impressive how far you’re willing to go to help Gran with this girl. I only hope your efforts do some good.
Please be sure to protect yourself and those around you as you try to help her.
Why not bring in the redheads? The English and Southerners have all be broadly insulted. Why not include the Irish? There’s a whole range of cultures that have been completely untouched in the previous 21 pages.
Never underestimate the power that a few boys can hold over a 12 year old girl!
Glad to hear your fence is getting mended and that poor Gran seems a bit happier too. She sounds like a nice woman who has had a world of trouble dumped in her lap. Any word on how Gramps is doing?
Thanks!! I laughed so hard when I read it that my boss came rushing in to see what was wrong! (He knows I post on here at work, and is fine with it so long as my actual work is done. I’m about to head home, yay!)

You know what they say karma is…
kookicat, love the sig .
I hope this clears throat young lady learns a lesson, but, next time she needs to use the loo, I would direct her to where my mare “goes”
Good luck to you.
