Farmer Dave and his wife are definitely candidates for sainthood! I’m with everyone else who suggested that he makes sure that neither he nor one of his boys is ever alone with the girl. The fact that she was still making prank phone calls to Kooki last night is worrisome - more proof that she is going to be a tough nut to crack. It would be great if all she needed was a firm hand and some love and attention but unfortunately life rarely works out like a Disney movie.

Birdsong, here are some major points:

Awful girl chases Kooki’s horses with stick and curses at her

Girl returns and tears down fence

Kooki discovers that girl is living with her Gran and that Gramps is in hospital. Girl is out of control and has also left dogs tied to fence while out causing other mayhem.

Gran brings girl to fix fence. Girl is rude and hateful. Girl is caught in the act as she is about to use a hoofpick on Kooki’s truck - Girl is shot with hose. Score one for Kooki!

Throughout Posters condemn girl in various serious and humorous ways

All the while Facinated takes offense and defends girl - trainwreck ensues with much entertaining bickering which continues to degenerate until it gets to personal name calling and other issues involving advertising of stallion and missing blankets are brought up. Mod 1 cleans things up, bickering continues, Facinated is banned. See links in previous pages for cached posts.

Farmer Dave, the neighbor, brings boys over to help with the fence repair on the following day. Now that Gramps has taken a turn for the worse he offers to foster the girl for Gran. Mother is MIA and she is needing a new social worker. Father not in picture.

Oh, and last night there were repeated hang up calls to Kooki.

We have not met the girl, remember. Kookie has been very restrained and fair in her descriptions. If they all work together perhaps this young lady will find out that happiness is being well thought of and will respond. It does not have to be a forever kind of thing - up to her how long she makes it last. I’m trying not to tar her with a very dark brush, or see the worst in her. Some people have had experiences with mentally ill or damaged kids and may be inclined to see the worst in her or be more judgemental. Let’s give her at least a chance.
Knight Dave must have seen something salvagable and Kookie seems to be going along with it. English country folk are not used to hard core kids; they are kind and gentle.

Best of luck to Kookie, Dave and family, Gran and the kid. See, I said I was idealistic. There are success stories when somebody
shows love and discipline. She’s never had either.

Wow! I take a couple hours to go do a job interview and come back to 5 pages of new threads! Holy generous friendly knighted farmer Dave. I agree with everyone else, PLEASE tell him to be careful. I just watched a co-workers husband go through hell when he was falsely accused of something, it took over 2 years to straighten out. I also agree to up the voltage on the fence and string a few extra lines if necessary. I’m picturing something like World War I bunkers with crazy coils of barb wire (on the non-horse side of course) and trenches where Kooki can stand guard with the hose. (yes, it’s been a long day and yes I’m tired!)

On a separate note, someone PLEASE send me the crazy crayon trainer thread! I’ve heard too many people alluding to it’s awesomeness without checking it out for myself!

I’ll be interested to hear what comes of this. We have until now lived off in the woods by ourselves with little concern that anyone will venture this far back to fool with the horses. But now I have a new neighbor that has three very little kids. Not so much worried that they will hurt my horses at this point, but that the kids will get hurt.

Maybe in 7 years or so I’ll be worried the other way!
