Remember that the Chinese took dogs and other pets off the restaurant menus so that the rest of the world would not be offended?
According to the “New Yorker”, scores of Chinese people, dressed as tourists, were sent to public places, including the Beijing airport, with beagles and rubber balls. They were supposed to throw the balls so that the beagles would play with them and so that the real tourists would be put at ease.
One American tourist was overheard saying to her husband, “They don’t eat dogs, they play with them”.
Apparently, it is very important that things are not how they are, but how they seem to be.
PR spin at its finest.
