Chinese officials enlist beagles to put the world at ease.

Remember that the Chinese took dogs and other pets off the restaurant menus so that the rest of the world would not be offended?

According to the “New Yorker”, scores of Chinese people, dressed as tourists, were sent to public places, including the Beijing airport, with beagles and rubber balls. They were supposed to throw the balls so that the beagles would play with them and so that the real tourists would be put at ease.

One American tourist was overheard saying to her husband, “They don’t eat dogs, they play with them”.

Apparently, it is very important that things are not how they are, but how they seem to be.

PR spin at its finest.

Anyone for a delicious Beijing Beagle Burger now that the Olympics tourists have gone home?

PR?
No, just like a cat with a mouse. Unfortunately for those dogs, the Games end.
Do they think the rest of the world is that gullible?
Apparently they think that we can’t tell when a gymnast is just out of grade school too…

Heh, heh, don’t you know that thirteen is the new sixteen?

Just as fifty is the new thirtyl:D

The alliteration is to die for.

Poor dogs.

I wonder what Snoopy thinks of all this.

Chinese people dressed as tourists?? I wonder how many people mistook them for Swedes. Or American whippers-in who traveled with their favorite pals.

My, my – how witty we are! You think it’s FUNNY and an opportunity for your sick wit to respond in such a way to the plight of the animals in China? It’s absolutely deplorable that the Olympics were held there! Did anyone read about the atrocities to the cats prior to the Olympics? I guess no one cares if it doesn’t affect you and your horses!
Geez!

I hate to ask but what happened to the cats prior to the olympics. And yes I think it was just awful that the Olympics were held in China for a number of reasons.

We were in the Beijing Airport… There were no people with beagles and balls… What I thought was interesting is the week we were in and around Beijing & Shanghai I only saw 1 dog being walked… No other dogs or cats…I was very careful to eat mostly vegetarian while I was there…just in case…

I heard you could get one at the Bassett, Basenji Buffet in Beijing.

You know TOTALLY HYPOTHETICALLY, I wonder which dog breed works best as food? Because that’s a stat the AKC really needs to slap up on the website - “The Bavarian Killhund is loyal, athletic, and if you find his aggressive temperament too much to handle, they’re great in soup…”

Sorry. I know a few dogs who would look great in a pot.

LOL! I am an animal lover, so no flaming please!! but this was too funny not to reply to. I had a dalmation, that was always grumbling, and high strung, that my mother always made sure to mention “Cruella had the right idea!!” whenever he was around.
He really was sweet but he had issues.

I worked with a civil engineer who was born and raised in Beijing - came over here on her own ticket, worked her way through colleges and her degree, and was (and still is) madly in love with our country - and our animals. She told me that there were NO pet animals in her homeland - that the whole country had enough of a problem feeding its human millions that feeding “useless pets” was just not on their agenda.

She was the first member of her family in living memory to ever have met a horse face to face - we taught her to ride on my senior stallion Pokey, and videotaped it to send back to her mom in China. That little old lady gave movie parties for weeks - her “equestrian daughter” was quite famous!

Would you stop eating beef if the Chinese decided to keep steers as pets?

Beijing for the Olympics–a twenty first century Potemkin village. Fake tourists with beagles to lower travel stress at airports. I like it. Better they should use the beagles for drug sniffing.

Some animals are “designed” to be eaten. Cows are. Dogs…not so much.

I find it humerous when people use this analogy. There is no defending the lack of respect for life shown by the people of that country. IMO.

Try telling that to the people in New Delhi or Bombay.:lol::lol:
