that is it… I’m donating both mares to the glue factory… (think that will work??). Sleep? What is that? in a bed?? OMG I’m so tired I can’t even function. My little dog just does not get it - he is used to going to bed (he sleeps in the bed with me) and he isn’t getting much sleep either lately. Both mares had their April Fool’s Joke - they got us all.
Oh, wow! I thought I would see two foals this AM!?! The worst part is THEY are going to snooze all day! Gotta be soon…
I can not believe they didn’t go! I have to travel today for business (sitting at airport now) and couldn’t stay up to watch too late…I jumped off the sofa 2X last night convinced Chloe was going!!!hope they go today for you…you poor thing, you must be so tired!!! Soon the wait will be over and very worth while!
Just so no one panics or anything… I drug (in Chloe’s case, literally) both mares out to paddocks where they will stay until after lunch. I gave both of them a lecture on how they are making me and the rest of the world very very tired and that they will feel better without the “alien” in their body. Niether mare seemed very impressed. Both mares had the tinest bead of wax on both teats, otherwise everything else is exactly the same. Chloe’s stall for the second day in a row smelled like embryonic fluid. NO she did NOT have her water break - just her pee is starting to smell and change (but I can tell when my mares are in season by the smell of their urine … ). Cams are off until I come home and bring them in (will be after lunch sometime). I need to let the cams, lights, and my computer rest a little while!
I was just wondering, after these 2 mares foaling, how many more mares do you have due to foal? Maybe you should make reservations for a padded cell.
You have got to be kidding me.
I think I asked this previously, but…when is her 340 day, and what is her history regarding that foaling date? Early? Late? How many days?
Sigh.
I hope you can get at least some sleep today.
OK, for the questions…
I have one mare left after these two, but 1) she isn’t due until end of May/beg of June and 2) that mare has had two other foals for me so I “know” her.
As for Chloe: she is as of today at 344 days (or is it 345?), she has had one foal prior and other than the owner telling me she “was a good mom and had her baby on her due date” no other info was given - and I don’t know if due date was at 335 or 342.
As for Dove she is right now at 336 days and she is a maiden.
Acottingim, bless your heart. You must be exhausted. (I am too). I keep watching your two with my two.
I know what you are saying about the pee smelling different… it’s a disinctive smell, and my one mare has it too. She has not waxed, but in the past, she simply doesn’t wax or it’s so slight and so close to foaling that no one has ever caught it. Last night she laid out flat for about 45 min and had a hind leg twitching like she was dreaming she was running or something. The other one was rolling around a lot.
But, neither is ready yet. At least mine are not LYING to me about being ready. Mine are more likely to just pop a baby out, with no warning, than to lie and say they are in labor.
So today mine are at 340 and 332.
There is a New Moon Saturday, April 5th.
You aren’t listening to me!
BOTH mares are just VERY VERY fat!
hee hee…
I feel for ya, girl!
Not even funny suzette.
Suzette may have a point. Perhaps you should have the vet out and do a preg check?
<ducking>
I feel for you. My mare in 2007 went to 363 days. But she never lied to me. I caused myself all the foal watch earlier, just being jittery.
That little mini baby is so cute in his sweater.
They are both really and truely preg I swear. I have been kicked recently enough to know that the baby inside is alive and “kicking” LOL. Don’t ask me what day though because right now everyday for the last 2 weeks have blurred togehter and I’m doing good to remember my name. I forgot to put make up on one day last week I was so tired (and it has only gotten better LOL).
And some of the foal watch I do to myself (I will admit to that) but I swear these mares have had me complletly fooled. Maybe being outside most of the day today will get them jump started. Even put Chloe up near the other babies.
Oh, you poor girl. I do so feel for you. Your girls are so huge that I think if you blow hard in their mouths the babies will pop out, rather like a blow dart. I dearly hope you have someone close by who can help you. HUGS…:rolleyes:
Thanks Jinxy… .it is just me. I get spelled occassionally by friends who watch the girls while I get a couple of hours of sleep, but I can’t ask them to stay up until 3 or 4 am or anything (or I don’t like to ask them to) - thank goodness for the net and marestare! My mom (who isn’t the most “horsey” person and is afraid of them anyway) has had hand surgery so she isn’t able to come up to help with anything… I do have a “supprot group” of vets, friends etc to help periperherally, but the daily grind is all me. I love the idea of the blow dart though! I’m hoping the lecture today made some sort of impression on them!
You know that old saying, “A watched pot never boils.” Why don’t you take a long nap late afternoon/early evening. That should get Chloe going when she thinks she’s not the center of your universe.

I have had a long nap in the afternoon and the evening… doesn’t seem to work LOL. They have been outside since 7 am though… just got home and am about to go out and fix up stalls then bring in etc. Maybe that will have gotten them motivated to HAVE THE BABIES!!!
