Christmas surprise!!!

Damn, Jair, that’s awesome!!! tell all!!! post pics!!! NOW!!! (or I will be forced to use more exclamation points)

(boy, I only got a pictureof a horse for Christmas, you got the real thing… just kiddin’ - I LOVE my gift)

quote:
Isn’t it lovely when our partners love and support us enough to bestow such unexpected and tear-inducing gifts? Beats a De Beers diamond any day.

Right on!! I’ve always said I would hurt anyone who dared spend that much money on such a useless item…when I really wanted a trailer or new truck or new horse…
Didn’t know there was anyone else out there with such radical ideas…

I’m struck “typeless” too. What a wonderful person your partner is, and what a wonderful new horse you have!

Congratulations!

What a fantastic mare! My cousin’s two geldings are both by Grundstein and she WENT to Germany to pick both of them out. She does upper level dressage, won a Bert Lundquist championship years ago with her Baker Street and is a licensed dressage judge as well.

Boy oh boy, that mare has an incredible jump - you keep her on YOUR side of the Border or Sea Urchin and Colin will be battling it out over her!

I bet you already have begging emails from Colin!

What a wonderful surprise!! She looks lovely! Your partner has good taste – but we all knew THAT already, didn’t we?

Best of luck with her! I am sure you two will get along great!

Canter, you crafty little Anne Murray-wannabe, you wrote:

“No one else could ever ride her as well as you will. I love ya man!”

Especially Canter! Do not be fooled by this purported act of compassion Jair. Canter may have been you partner-in-crime during the Thanksgiving coup attempt, but since her parole, she’s not been the same.

Now heidi, don’t say such a thing. As you know I worship the all-knowing Hans! (I ordered my new laptop from Dell earlier this week!)

Jair- I have to second that. I have a private farm, its me and the Fam (as well as my best friend). I boarded a new horse for a few months, and LOVED the whole big atmosphere. I definately cling to this bb because of the “big barn” atmosphere it has! The only ones I get to sit in my tackroom with are my kitties (not that I don’t love them dearly!!)

Robbie that sounds way yum!! email me the recipe love??? Pretty please? Sorry Jair, if there’s only one thing that gets my attention faster than a beautiful new horse it’s food.

Jair and I eloped over the holidays.

I am so drooling.

Jair, she sounds lovely. Talk about a special gift. Can’t wait to see pictures.

Welcome to the wonderful world of mares… I have one, and despite her occasional female issues, I wouldn’t trade her for the world!!! And I’m always happy to discuss and give my extremely humble opinion on any mare-related issues.

Thanks everyone for sharing in my excitement!

It was a complete surprise! I had never seen the horse before, even though she belonged to a client of my trainer, but she is freelance so her clients are scatterd. I knew on Christmas Day that my partner had a special surprise for me since he told me, but he said it wouldn’t be ready until after we got back from holidays. So even though I was totally curious, I still never thought “horse”. On this tuesday my partner offered to pick me up from work since he had some errands to run, well, conveniently enough one errand took us by the road down to the stables at which point he coyly suggested why don’t we go down and visit my gelding since we’re here? Thinking nothing off it, I said sure. Well as soon as we walked onto the property I noticed there was an extra horse out in one of the paddocks (there are only 4 horses on the property generally so the 5th one stuck out) and I think I said something like, “wow, nice horse! Wonder who it belongs to?” and my partner turned to me and replied “You” !!

Big shock! I’m still reeling at his incredbile generousity and thoughtfulness.

Anyhow - I finally have a picture to show you guys! Alice originally came from an auction in germany last spring for her former owners - they gave us the catalogue for fun, so I had her little catalogue picture scanned in so I could show my friends what she looked like.

Let me know what you think!!

Jair! She is Gorgeous with a capital G! Your partner is a wonderful person to make sure you not only got a horse, but such an obviously talented one at that.

Great breeding – I love Accord and Lanthan. (Of course, if Louise hadn’t already asked and you hadn’t answered we would have been forced to track you down and drag it out of you!) We have a gorgeous Lanthan weanling filly in our barn who was high point foal at her AHS inspection) Here’s a page on Lanthan from last year: http://mitglied.tripod.de/cellestatestud/lanthan.htm

Who was her breeder? Was she sold at Verden? How did your partner steal her away from the person who imported her (or was she bought and imported for resale?)

Have you ridden her yet? Is she a dream to sit on? When will you jump her?

She is BEAUTIFUL!! I am catching up on all the threads now, and WOW! Yours so lucky!! Thats amazing. You’ll have to keep us posted on how everything goes with her, and naturally we will want to see many many pictures!! You some SERIOUS bragging rights here!!!

What breeding! This mare definately should be able to do anything that you want her to do.

And, have you thought yet about the fact that, down the line, you will have the pleasure of matching her wonderful breeding with all the great stallions that there are out there? What a baby that could be!

Someone (was it Heidi?) said that it was great to see someone as nice as you have someone who realizes this and appreciates you. I second the motion. You are a pleasure to have on this forum and I am so glad that you have this joy in your life.

Canter: After such lovely words, I feel compelled to at least offer you first dibs on one of Alice’s future foals. Although LOUISE is up there too (that really was a lovely thing to say )

But heidi - really, I know you can do better

Thanks too HN73 and Blinky for the compliments

How true that is! What a wonderful take on this bulletin board - I actually ride out of a small private barn where there is only 5 stalls, so sometimes I find I miss the companionship that one finds at a much larger facility. Perhaps that’s why I’ve become so fond of this BB and the people in it? Interesting thought!

Now now Portia and Heidi, don’t go sticking your lower lips out yet - I think I did mention once before that my beloved Adrian has a younger brother… (and, uhm, I’m pretty sure he likes the ladies! )

…that in addition to that GORGEOUS horsey you were given, you also recieved a LARGE wheelbarrow full of Sadl-Tite

And in case you ever want to uh, “donate” your new pony to a horse-deprived junior…heehee

But seriously, she is awesome, and you are one really really lucky guy.
Now, where can I find someone to buy me a horse…

Canter:

I’ll try to remember to grab the recipe when I go home at lunch and will bring it to you. It was one from Parade Magazine (a weekly insert in the newspaper in the US) by their food editor Sheila Lukin (I think that’s her name) who opened “The Silver Palate,” a gourmet shop in NYC. She always has excellent stuff.

Meshach:

I’m blessed to have a horse who has “good hair.” But I do bang it about every three months, and I keep the top of her tail clipped/pulled - quite dramatically in fact. I also brush her tail out each day with Show Sheen. I use a Conair paddle brush. At shows I will wet my tail wrap and wrap her tail an hour before the dressage. If I have any help (ie. my partner) I’ll even warm up/work in with the tail wrapped and remove it right before I trot in for my test.

Hope that helps!
