Okay but I got to say it- I hope much of what Perry Martin said after the race was “tongue in cheek” because if not- what a A**!!!
Congratulations to Chrome and to Victor!!!
Yay Chrome! What a great race, so happy to see him win.
Perry Martin alluding to some $12M race Gulfstream is trying to put together in Jan was interesting. Funny that he said the money doesn’t mean anything but you know that’s why he’d be interested in that race!
Also, he can’t run in the Hollywood Derby again, that’s for three-year-olds.

Oh, he was definitely having some fun with that interview.

He was trying to be funny with his “beat the track record” type comments, but not very successful. Strikes me as a guy who is a bit socially awkward and was trying to hard.
Nobody can say he was just handed that race. Congratulations to Chrome and company. And did everybody else cringe when they saw how far back that girth had slipped??? Wow! He IS the real thing.

he was joking with the money not meaning anything comment.
The Hollywood Derby quote was kinda odd though. Maybe he was trying to make a joke there too?
Anyone know where I can find a replay? Just missed the race.
I agree, wide trip the whole way and a slipped saddle and still much the best.
Will be interesting to follow his 5 year old campaign…
Well, that was freaking amazing! My eyes got teary, even.
Anyone else watch the Opening Ceremonies? Pretty impressive. No wonder racing is big in other parts of the world. Vindication and Redemption for Chrome. So happy as a California-raised horsewoman.
#%%# Chrome caps are still unavailable on the Taylor Made Farm online store.
Nice win!
SportArab - Bloodhorse has the replay. Check the article.
Oops - not yet - someone else had it on FB.
Try later. Bloodhorse usually has the replays in an article shortly afterwards. :o
ETA: Here it is! Phew! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2ihAGhZ9K4&sns=fb
I am over the moon about the race!!!

Yes. My eyes popped. He ran three, four wide, then that girth slipping all the way back?
Yeah, CHROME.
Found it. Wow!
Good God, who saddled him or did something break or come undone???
Nice win though, broke sharp, got taken wide but never faltered or threatened once in the lead and got only aporopriate urging from the jock. Very professional job.
I’ve always been a quite follower of CC. I have also thought he often times wasn’t given the respect he rightly deserved & had earned.
After completely demolishing one of(if not thee) best fields of horse to run in the DWC, setting a track record, making it looks so damn easy, all while his saddle was slipping further & further back he sure as hell deserves respect now.
SUPERB job by Victor riding with the saddle that loose & far back. That could have been a disaster.
We saw a horse (almost) run right out from under his saddle, he was going so fast.:yes:
Happy for all concerned. They did a great job with him.
Really happy for Chrome and all of his people. Any way you look at it, the race was very impressive.
The saddle slipping back was
Can that always be prevented? Or does it just happen sometimes even if the horse was saddled correctly?
Final times of the DWC (2015, 2016 editions).
Prince Bishop - 2:03.24
Calfornia Chrome - 2:01.83
I thought CC put in a very solid bid for the race last year & finished a respectable 2nd.
Shines a bit of light on just how much he’s improved since then.
Can’t wait to see what he does once back home!

I’ve made this theory elsewhere, but the more comments I read/listen to from Perry Martin seems to strike me as being from a fellow INTJ with that sort of deadpan humor that comes across as caustic to anyone who isn’t an INTJ and that social withdrawal that is part of the territory.
