Clever Cat Names

Chairman Meow… I know one too!!!

One of my college roommates had a family cat named Rosanna Our Cat.

(Get it? Rosanna Arquette.)

One of the cats that just showed up at the barn a couple years ago is an orange tabby. We named him Thomas O’Malley

My very large orange and white tabby is called the Cait Sidhe, pronounced cawt she, after a demonic cat in on of the Dresden file books.

When I was a kid we had a Maine Coon like cat (still best cat evah) named Zeke. So all Main coons since then must have Z names. And apparently I can’t name them things like Zeb or Zack.

So after Zoey and Xena (z sounds count too), I now have two boys - Zifu, (sort of a riff on the buddhist monk Shifu) and Zazu… who I admit is secretly short for Zazzles. Because he is Zazzy.

In the non Maine Coon department I have Vivi. She was going to be Vivian, I was just waiting for her to develop a sense of dignity. Seven years later, still Vivi.

["]The black and white kitty and the calico kitten on the top left are called, respectively Butch Catsidy and Sundance Kitty.

Two of mine are Butch Catsidy and Sundance Kitty. I have another named Clawdia.

We had an orange kitty named Julius. My new orange kitty is named Purrcival (Purrcy for short). Something about orange kitties brings out the humor. My other kitties are all named after SF Giants players (Panik, Posey, and Panda) but you have to throw the DH a bone every once in a while.

The Siamese Mafia are all Hawaiian flavored. Kona mamacat, Cousin Boomer… daddycat, and the kids King Kamehameha, Miss Kunani, Meeka, Miss Waimaia, and tiny Hana.

Mousetrap

Current cat is Picabo (peek a boo) named after Picabo Street. Really too funny as she does like to hide and pop out at you!

But, all time favorite cat name was my old roommates: Dawg

Everyone has known a cat named Diesel, right?

Mousetrap[/QUOTE]

That’s what I’m talking about.

Maybe also “Better Mousetrap” from the saying about designing things.

We had Booey, Stewie, and Lewey.
Not clever, but easy lol.

When I was a kid, we had Monty Purrthon.

I have two outlaws - Bonnie and Clyde

I think the very first episode of the Midsommer Murder TV series had Inspector Barnaby and his wife looking after their daughter’s Russian Blue cat whose name was Killmousky. I thought that was rather clever!

For barn cats, the only semi-unusual names we had were Heathcliffe ( large, long-haired orange and white ex-tom), Snagglepuss (a dilute orange ex-tom who looked like something you didn’t want to meet in a back alley but who was the sweetest guy) and Slinky (female short-haired black). We had an Ozzy (after Ozzy Osborne; I didn’t name it) who turned out to be female, of course! And a Freckle (long haired black and white male with a small spot of black on his chin). We also had Dustbunny (grey and white female who reminded me of one.)

We had so many at the barn at one time (12++) that we got rather jaded and one got named Mrs. Cat because we had run out of creativity. She had a litter of five, four of whom I could not immediately determine their sex because they were pretty wild. The fifth got named Sugar (after Marilyn Monroe’s character in “Some Like it Hot”) because she was tortie and white and therefore 99% chance of being female. Another got named Daphne after Jack Lemmon’s character. I figured it would work if she was male or female - turned out she was female, so it didn’t require a long explanation! (She will be 21 this July.)

We name all our pets after characters in movies or TV. They always morph, but that’s the idea to start.

My current group consists of Spy, who was named after Spivey from Dances with Wolves. Then we have Gracie, (affectionately known as Gracie-Grace) who was named after Grace in Will and Grace. We’ve had black and white sisters named Buffy and Willow,(who became Willy,) named for Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters. They hissed a lot, haha. Then Wally, who was named after William Wallace of Braveheart.

My dogs (sorry!) are Leo (Ridgeback), short for Leonidas of the movie 300, and finally Zukey (Malinois), formerly Zuko, named after Danny Zuko in Grease.

Love all these posts.

We adopted a cat named Mouse  A cute, used to be shy, siamese with a tiny high pitched meow. Kids always giggle when they are introduced.

Naming chickens was also entertaining, especially when my daughter was young. Two tiny pitch black hens were Opal, my suggestion, Oval - kid’s suggestion. Her small white fluffy hen - Feta (like the crubly white cheese). We have a large brown/black/orange bird we could not figure out if it was hen or roo - got dubbed Biggie Brown, fits both.

We have a lemon of a puppy - long sad story and still not sure if the little one will get to live, her name is Lemonade - she is very sweet despite the many troubles in her short life.

Years ago we had small brown tabby kitten who was an extra silly and playful guy. For weeks an empty cardboard graham cracker box was his very favorite combination toy / hiding place. When it came down to picking a name, the choice could only be between Graham or Crackers. At that age he certainly was not dignified enough for Graham, but Crackers was the perfect fit!
