Who is your favorite clinician (true big names only please… not local/semi-local big names… please only recommend people that at least 80% of the currently showing dressage community will have heard of.
Peters
Actually getting a clinic with him is pretty hard.
Stephen Clarke
Charles de Kunffy
Conrad Schumacher.
Bereiters from the SRS. I’ve seen/ridden with a couple of them and they are great.
Christoph Hess has come highly recommended to me, but I haven’t seen him in person yet.
Courtney King Dye - although I get to ride with her once a twice a week:D
Juan matute - especially helpful with passage and piaffe
Roel Theunissen
Axel Steiner - he surprised me a little as I thought I’d only really get the judges perspective and got a ton more and very confidence boosting
Lilo Fore
Lendon Gray
I would love to ride with Gunter Seidel as I really get a lot out of his videos on Dressageclinic.com
In no particular order (some from life and some from video)
Carl Hester
Conrad Schumacher
Stephen Clarke
Debbie MacDonald
Lisa Wilcox
Steffen Peters
Bert Rutten
ingrid klmke
Georges Malleroni
Henriquet, M & C
Margit Otto-Crépin
These 2 kicked my butt(and I was much younger at the time!)
Uta Graf
Ingrid Klimke
More recently:
P. Belasik (only once, never again)
Buck Brannaman(great!)
Sarah Martin (excellent technician)
Philip Ortegren (a reiner, but he gave me a dressage lesson, kicked my butt & I improved!)
Alfredo Hernandez - and he’s a bargain compared to most of the others mentioned here-
Jeremy Steinberg

Agree!
I don’t know what is considered “big name” - does that include USDF faculty, S judges, etc? I’ve ridden with several of the people already mentioned, and have audited several more. So far, my favorites probably wouldn’t qualify under the “big name” category. Mention their names on the West Coast, and yes, everyone knows who they are, but East Coast, maybe not.
We have had a plethora of clinicians at the barn over the past several years:
Arthur Kottas
Anne Gribbons
Debbie McDonald
Stephen Clarke
Guenter Seidel
Lilo Fore
George Williams
Axel Steiner
Gary Rockwell
Sandra Hotz
Jeremy Steinberg
Scott Hassler
David Blake
And maybe a few others I have forgotten about.
They have all been good, but the ones the riders and auditors seem to like the best are:
Debbie McDonald and Anne Gribbons for riders with talent and ambition for the small and/or big tour - and who have a horse that can do the job.
Arthur Kottas for work in hand.
Lilo Fore and Sandra Hotz for excellent instruction from a riding and judging perspective.
Jeremy Steinberg for super all-around coaching, with an emphasis on basics of body control, use of aids, and theory.
Scott Hassler for young horse development.
If you are looking for the best value - Sandra Hotz and Jeremy Steinberg are both very affordable.

i would kill to be able to ride with ingrid! i have watched a few of her clinics online and if she ever comes back to the states, she’s on my bucket list.
Nick Peronce:lol::no::
Jeremy Steinberg
Wolfgang Scherzer
Ditto Jeremy Steinberg
Excellent eye for detail, clearly lots of experience working with different types and breeds of horses. Gives same care and attention to lower level riders and “off breeds” as GP riders on the fanciest warmbloods.
Huge focus on correctness over flash.
we had a Clinic with Janet Foy recently and I liked her a lot
To watch? Charlotte and the one next mentioned. So many reasons, and so inspiring.
But Conrad Schumacher fixed my mounted relationship with my horse, kindly, tactfully, and with a whole lot of class and psychology. He cut through EVERYTHING in the first five minutes by talking and listening. He summed up my two problems by telling me that the problem in my head was caused by the problem with the horse’s understanding, and worked to fix the horse’s understanding, therefore fixing my head.
Ever grateful.
Riding with him again very soon and can’t wait.
Some of the best teachers are not Big Names. Mention their names, get blank stares and “I’ve never heard of that person”.
Meh.
Has no one mentioned George Williams? I’ve audited a couple of his clinics and enjoyed them.
My favorite clinician is Siegfried Winkler. Look him up. He’s not a household name, but he should be. He helped me out of my Third Level doldrums and now we’re knocking on the door of PSG. He’s also worked with my Para student and has helped us both with his insights. When she and I “get stuck”, he unsticks it!
Janet Foy IMO, gives clinics for the love of the sport. Very reasonably priced and an excellent judge’s eye. We’re lucky to have her “out West”.
Just to add: Lendon Grey is absolutely the best when it comes to “teaching teachers how to teach”. That’s something lacking in our development of instructors in this country.
