Just got an email from CMHTV letting me know that my $149 annual contract will be $250+ for one year. Ouch! I guess I won’t be watching much show jumping next year.
Yikes!
I wouldn’t even pay $149 - so many people on this forum are always complaining about CMH and technical problems.
I’m not sure why it got so expensive. I guess because of the production costs and products? Either way, it was quite a shock. I love to watch CMH, so this is a sad deal. Makes me wonder how high Netflix and the like will become if this is the start of a trend.
Looking for suggestions as to alternatives. I know USEF used to have live streaming but I think it’s part of CMHTV as is FEI. So what options are people using? TIA
Thanks for the heads up. I just checked my email and my subscription is going up to $289.99. No effing way I’m renewing at that price.
I’m pretty bummed, I just got the email and jumped on here to see if there was chatter. $289……I just can’t justify that. I’m not sure this is a smart business choice, I think they will lose a lot of members with this move
I’m also pretty bummed, this is such a steep increase. My renewal date isn’t until Sept, but I will likely also cancel then. I did email them back to let them know the price increase was the reason
I was considering signing up, but not at that price!
It’s such a bummer to have CMHTV being so heinously expensive while at the same time having USEF/USHJA leadership complain about participation rates and lack of industry support.
I love having a CMH livestream up while I’m working during the week, especially as a rider based outside of major “horse country.” But that cost is offensive. I mean, ESPN red zone is $10/month and that offers commentary, 200 weeks of coverage, stats, etc.
Same here! I’m so glad I checked my membership the other day to see when it was renewing - I was shocked to see the huge increase! I understand if it went up $20 or $30, but to go up by $140 to almost $300/year?!? That’s appalling. I also never received an email reminder, so I would have just been charged automaticity on my renewal date if I hadn’t looked - I canceled right away.
Sad though as I love watching all the big international shows and look forward to Aachen every summer.
I pay month to month $20…wonder if that is going up?
I’m sure it will as that’s just splitting up the yearly subscription cost. I pay monthly but also got the email
$289/ year is just $24/month, which is a number that most people would not find offensive for a subscription service.
$24 a month for a steaming service seems crazy to me. Especially because the platform has a lot of issues. For some reason my paid account kept telling me I hadn’t paid and couldn’t watch certain events. Or, sometimes it would work but would randomly rebuffer halfway through the event and the video would start over from the beginning and I’d have to try to figure out where exactly I was before it did that.
I would disagree. Subscription prices are getting up there, sure, but I don’t know anyone that isn’t annoyed or outraged every time it happens. I dropped Netflix because the bill got too high. I dropped Disney+ because the bill got too high and they added commercials.
Dollar amount aside, a price doubling from one year to the next is always unpalatable to most people. Which is why it’s generally avoided by knowledgeable companies when possible. A more logical approach is max 30% price increases over three years or something, as more consumers are more “understanding” of multiple smaller increases over a period of time.
My Netflix bill is under $8. I won’t pay $20 a month for any streaming services, no matter how many bells or whistles it has. So I am very torn at the increase from $149 to over $250. That’s a $100 dollar increase!
It’s expensive but I watch it all the time. I learn a lot and it’s fun to see all the different shows and classes. I’ve also liked being able to get a sense of a ring before going in it myself. To me, it’s worth it.
I’ve been on the full plan since 2017 and I went from 195 Euro to 239.99 Euro.
Since they’re adding Badminton and expanding to more shows, I don’t mind the 45 Euro increase at all.
Now, when the dollar has plunged and the Euro rises, I reserve the right to be annoyed, but that’s not a CMH problem.
Em
I am a bit confused. Do you pay in Euros? Just curious.
