Colt rescued from year-long sling horror (warning: abuse, deceased horse)

That primary charge doesn’t make sense. Why isn’t it cruelty? I hope they’re still working on that one and it changes.

It is not uncommon to charge with something easily proved while developing your case for harder to prove things. At least that is what I hope is happening.

So she’s not Monica Thors? I’m confused!

Nobody ever said she was, MT was just brought up and another nutcase. Many of us still remember that particular :poop:show and it was brought up as another WhyTF would someone do that scenario.

Someone else brought up MT.
She has nothing to do with Asombro’s case.

It clearly states more charges are expected.
This was simply the quickest/easiest charge.
A dead horse still not buried a month later is not subjective and easy to charge.
Other charges require proof of intent to harm, neglect etc. This is a hard core one that gets her in custody.

@quietann It took me a minute to figure out this situation also. When I first read the thread, I was trying to figure out if there was something initially wrong with the horse that prompted a misguided backyard veterinary convalescence that then turned into a horror show. But what I’m understanding is that there was nothing intrinsically wrong with the horse other than the “care” that the owner inflicted on him.

Maybe there was some inciting event…but someone putting a healthy young horse in a sling and then confining and starving it to deliberately preserve it as a helpless invalid is eerily similar to the Monica Thors situation and that’s why she keeps getting mentioned.

It was hard for me to sort out mentally, because garden variety horse abuse often involves misguided, cruel backyard veterinary care (that obviously does not involve a vet) or even just very misguided horse husbandry.

I appreciate all the updates and I strongly hope there is a mechanism to prevent this obviously very troubled person from owning any type of animals in the future.

The owner/abuser claims that both Asombro & the dead horse had gone down at some point (different times for each) & could not stand on their own. Hence them being put in the homemade sling. It’s unknown if that is true or just her excuse for putting them in the slings.
As for her reasoning for keeping them strung up, starving them & all other atrocities they were subjected to…… who knows.

This is on the FB page too:

I screenshot the same post as @mommy_peanut re: arrest & watched the FB video :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
I hope Asombro goes back to the breeder & never has a minute of pain or neglect for the rest of his life!

Statements like that make me ask so many questions, like did this person never ever have a vet or farrier out?

If my horse was down and not able to get up, I would be contacting my vet so we can figure out why my horse went down and not able to get up, so it does not happen again.

Considering both horses were hidden under a tarp & not really visible, I’m going to assume she never bothered to seek help or assistance of any kind.
Hopefully more details on her reasons behind her actions come out.
Or maybe she’s really is just bat crap cray-cray.

I was surprised the abusive owner is so young. Animal cruelty cases with misguided intentions seem more often to show up in middle aged or older women. I also find it strange that this happened to one (or two?) horses who she must have purchased from breeders for a fair amount of money. Why spend so much on a horse then turn it into this?

There could possibly be mental illness involved. There are many that really start to develop or show themselves in the transition from teen to young adulthood.

So she’s less than an hour from me. I will do some digging. If you look at Hunters fb feed she work(ed?) at Tractor Supply and someone recognized her and ate her lunch lol.

I don’t know how I missed this but I’m absolutely speechless!!! It defies all reasoning.

You would think if you ask a high purchase price and sell a horse they would be protected from this kind of abuse. That person must be mentally ill.

Folks, this is central Alabama, he was an oops foal, not planned. Pretend it’s a grade qh type vs a “fancy” breed.

I believe he moved here in the past several years, so he didn’t have a ton of local contacts/knowledge of fruitloops. He was advertising for someone to start horses for him, so again I believe he lacked local knowledge, connections, etc.

None of this means any of this is his fault, not at all. I am saying he sold a horse locally, likely at a sweet heart price, to a complete shitbag of a buyer who pulled the wool over his eyes.

Yeah, but that sweetheart price was not likely to be sub $1k. You can see from his post that he has bred before, is selective, has a stallion.

This woman paid money to starve him. I just can’t imagine what mental illness led to that action. Maybe depression? Bought two foals…thought they’d do something and then family issues hit? Who knows - but that’s horrible all the way around.

Thank you for sharing this. What a wonderful post by the breeder.
