Colt rescued from year-long sling horror (warning: abuse, deceased horse)

K-tape to the rescue! I never would have thought of that.

What a bright look on his face. That is so good to see.

He looked great! A much happier and brighter little horse

RRR shared photos from Hunter, of Asombro as a foal.
Super cute.

Look at that beautiful, innocent foal, the potential…
It’s heartbreaking to see where he landed.
I can’t imagine how his breeder feels.

Do you think the abuser was trying to stunt his growth on purpose? Thinking of Tea Cup pigs.

Glad to see he is doing so much better!

Hmm. Those kind of people just buy minis with dwarf characteristics.

Agreed. The rescue involved in this whole situation has been really thoughtful with respect to the breeder, and involved him in the recovery process. And the breeder has definitely been engaged and caring. And the colt seems to remember and respond to the breeder when he has visited. It’s a really positive aspect of the story in my opinion.

Agreed.
Many years ago, I was adjacent to a case where the breeders of a number of horses that were seized by a rescue were treated like scum when they reached out to offer to take the animals home.
Instead the horses were “adopted” out without their registration papers.

I think some people get very dogmatic about breeding and rescues.

There are certainly breeders who are unethical, which is unfortunate. There are also rescues who engage in unethical practices when it comes to raising money, etc. And that’s also unfortunate.

So far, it seems like when it comes to this tragic case involving Asombro, good horsemanship is leading the way during his rehabilitation, and everyone now involved is putting his welfare first. And that’s nice to see.

My brain still can’t accept Asombro as a 3yo :sleepy:
Abuse sure took away some valuable growth time from this baby.
I’m reminded of the Freeing Argus blog & hope Asombro’s future turns out as well.

There were some Morgans at the MSPCA, and it surprised me that they were adopted out with no papers, but a friend who knows the administration says they’ve become 100% opposed to breeding, and very controlling. And yes, the breeders were treated horribly. It would obviously violate the adoption contract, but the AMHA could have restored their papers for a few hundred dollars and a hair sample.

if they had been registered then separated from their papers there is a program developed by the AMHA Welfare & Rescue Committee to provide free DNA testing kits to registered 501©(3) rescues that help Morgan horses who find themselves in “at-risk” situations.

How the eff is it that a story from 2014 shows sick sick abuse and now we have more horses horribly abused. Is it weak state laws? I mean what is going in this country to allow people to treat animals like this?

That is disgusting. Why don’t they throw the book at these people?

Love seeing him with all that energy.

He is quite lame still, but hopefully he will continue to improve. He has certainly figured out how his legs work.
