Comme Il Faut as a breeding stallion

I would like to know more about Comme Il Faut as a breeding stallion. What type of mare should be used with him? Comments on offspring? Strong points?
Would love to know if anyone has seen or breed foals by him.

I am not breeding. I just would like to know more about him because I like him, and I think he is one to watch in the future. He looked great at Rome this past Saturday! And his bloodlines are very interesting with Cornet and Ratina.

Thank you!

I am interested in this as well. For selfish reasons, I am very curious how he is crossing with Holsteiner mares though maybe it is too soon to say.

Also wonder about rideability. Certainly Marcus Ehning can make any horse look amazing. But Ratina Z was not easy…so how will her son produce?

The stallion is incredible, just explosive. Many of my friends in Europe bred to him this year so we will see more foals, especially with Holsteiner blood, coming next year I think.

Reece/Bayhawk - Can you add some of your knowledge here? TIA.

Is his frozen available in the U.S.? He’s lovely…

I will be seeing some of his foals this October, as there are a few at the stable where my horses are at. I do believe they are about average size, and sportive types. Perhaps a little plain in appearance but we must wait until they grow to know more. I think one of the questions I have is what size mare does he do best with. He is not so big, but his parents were of good stature. I know that some of his foals were premium this year, but so were their mothers. I will report back what I observe. I do not think his frozen has been prepared for the US yet.

Tim

He has a son in the US who is quite attractive and of good size, Coronet D’Honneur. Not a rangey type though, if that is your desire. Forelimb structure seems improved a couple generations out. Look forward to the report Tim.

His frozen was available in the US, but it has all been sold. I haven’t yet heard if more is coming in 2016. It is excellent quality as it worked first time on a 17 year old mare. A friend used half a dose and her mare got pregnant first cycle as well.

I am expecting a foal from him next May out of a mare Indorado/Nimmerdor Holsteiner Stamm 5401. Her first foal by Orlando (small - mid size stallion) is 17H. The mare herself is 16.2H and of medium bone. So it will be interesting to see what size the CIF foal ends up. I prefer medium bone/height and sportier types and I hope that is what I end up with.

Who was the distributor?

Exciting, and yes, I have a very large mare and mid-size stallion is on my list of needs

I purchased it from Tallin Farms. I have not heard of anyone else stocking it.

Super sport horse but young in the breeding realm. Knowing where he comes from and the type he is will help you decide on the correct mare.

Comme Il Faut has been getting around:

I plan to breed Comme il faut to my Monte Bellini mare next year.

What was written above is correct. CiF needs Mares with good frame, a shot of blood (tb) is of advantage. When CiF where bred to Mares the first years, breeders suggested that the offspring will not gain enough height, but that turned out to be false. There is small as well as high offspring by CiF.

About the rideability, I wait for more offspring to be under saddle…
Since Ratina wasn’t the easiest horse and I also remember Cornet’s sire Clinton with Dirk Demeersman from their time at highest Level… I am for real no pussy-cat (is that the right word???) but I always thought: “…For gods sake I never have to ride THIS horse!!!”

I did see two offspring of his compete in the bundeschampionate if you have access to clipmyhorse. I believe they were in the 6 yr olds, but could have been the 5 yr olds.

Thank you everyone! caballogurl and Adela, please share some photos of your foals when they arrive, would love to have a look!

Based on the type and bloodlines, what mare would be the correct for him?
Thank you!

Please let us know your observations based on what you see in October, would love to know more about the type of foals he is throwing.

Curious about this horse as well, he’s a compact ‘run and jump’ type, so would be interested to know what types of mares his connections have chosen for him, and what the results have been.

His son Comilfo Plus Z just placed 5th in the FEI World Breeding Championships for 6 year olds. He goes first in the order of the jump off: http://www.clipmyhorse.de/de/archive/show/1157/35824/0/pr-uuml-fung-13-finale-6-jarige-paardenfei-world-breeding-jumping-championshipstechen . He seemed to me very similar in type to his father in his run and jump style - a lovely young stallion. The mare I bred to CIF and her first son are a tad bit long in the back and I was hoping that the cross with CIF would result in more compact sportier model with more type - more Porsche less limo. But that is my personal preference in horse - sporty and fast :D. If you are looking for raw scope to win a puissance you might choose a different stallion :).

Interesting compilation of his pedigree (Comme Il Faut / Balou du Rouet) in both name and way of going. One to watch, for sure.

IMO TB mares, which we have plenty of…a strong No for this stallion. We have to stop thinking that the TB mares rule the roost in the USA for sport breeding. Get yourself a strongly framed WB mare and use her. Breeding in the USA for sport other than racing has been ripped from the headlines of Europe. As they say… “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
We had a beautiful colt by Comme il Faut from our Contender mare this year and I will say…study the genetics of any mare you want to breed and use history as your guide.

Comme il Faut must have a mare with very good front legs and feet. A mare that has a pretty enough head and is very noble is also desirable.
