Comparable to Dublin Mid River?

So apparently Dublin/Weatherbeeta has discontinued the shorter version of their River boot, which saddens me. These are (I guess were, now), my favorite all-sorts and while they were amazing in the winter, I really wore them about 3/4 of the year. Especially after I moved to the farmette, just slip on and walk out to the barn. If it’s muddy, jeans or sweatpants just tucked right in the tops as I slid them on, if it wasn’t muddy then I pulled my jeans out. They are old and beat up and the now-three-year-old dog ate the tops off the left when he was a pup, and I’ve Camp Dried them as much as I care to and wanted to replace them…

…only to find I can’t.

So what is out there is a. slip on, b. warm, c. waterproof, d. the same approximate height/width. I had bought some of the regular ones before and hated the height, and sold them at a loss last year. I saw Ariat H2O slip on boots, but they are billed as not a winter boot.

Oh, and not rubber boots.

Funny because the mid-height ones drive me bonkers, I need the full height.

I had a pair of the original Muck Boots and LOVED them. Only complaint was that they were a little heavy, but you get used to is. But definitely a. easy to slip on, b. warm, and c. waterproof. They come in different heights, too.

Aren’t those rubber?

Yeah, the Original is rubber but they have other styles and materials now. Figured it was worth poking around their site to see if anything jumped out at you!

Mucks are rubber feet, neoprene uppers. They’re okay, but only last a winter and the foot beds aren’t at all supportive (at least for me.)

Have you checked out Dubarry? Like these, maybe?

Or these?

I like the Mark Todd boots! I do not have Durbary price points

They look cool, huh?! I nearly bought a pair in solidarity before backing away from the keyboard

Dubarrys are gasp worthy but people talk about them lasting decades–and you got years out of your Dublins, soooooo maybe you’re worth it?

You could also try (don’t hate me) cowboy boots? They’re a whole lot easier to find.

You can get them kind of plain:

Boot Barn has nearly 250 options in mens boots:

I always buy mens stuff–seems to hold up so much better. And better sizing options.

But there are quite a lot of options in the womens section, too…

I wear Justin “cowgirl” boots but rarely are they waterproof… the other styles have too much sole sticking out the sides.

I wonder how to convert the UK sizing…

Some are waterproof

I wonder how to convert the UK sizing…

Are you going to order the Mark Todds?? Yay! Tell me how they are? I might need a pair (I really don’t, but…)

https://www.bata.com/corpo/shoe-size-converter/

I am going to order (if at all, but likely ) from Amazon and it helpfully has a inches to size converter. Esp as it is only men’s sizes.

OK I wimped out on the Mark Todds because they had no reviews that I could find :frowning:

Bumping this because I am entering ANOTHER wet season with my poor bedraggled Dublins. I never found a replacement I thought I’d like. Has anything been put on the market in the last year? I love the midcalf height so I can tuck jeans/sweats into the tops for mucky/splashy chores.

I was really excited when I saw this thread back up to the top, eager to hear how those Mark Todd boots were for you!

But no

Hahahaha sorry, I may break down… I squeezed another year out of the Mid Rivers tho. Maybe we can write a letter to Dublin??

Why not just a pair of the taller River boots? (I know: I lack imagination, but it was a question that had to be asked).

So I did try a pair of the taller ones. No likie. For one, I only wear breeches when I ride, and if I’m riding, I’m wearing riding boots and half chaps. My barn is at home, so I don’t need a “chore” boot to change into when I’m at the barn. If I’m choring, I’m wearing jeans. I like the mid-height because if it’s super wet, I can tuck jeans or sweats into the top to keep the bottoms clean, and I can’t do that with the taller version. I don’t wear skinny jeans (god knows I keep trying to find a pair I like…) or yoga pants so wearing them as in-town daily boots doesn’t work because they don’t work under jeans. I tried. It looked funny. The mids were fine because they are the same height as a regular western-style boot.

@Simkie I contacted Dublin directly. There are NO PLANS to bring back the Mid Rivers :frowning:

Smartpak has their own line of Ada boots which are similar to Dublins and come in mid rise-

Ovation has some as well-

https://www.doversaddlery.com/ovation-maree-country-boot/p/X1-380540/

Oh thanks! So the Ada’s are out, calf size isn’t even close for my size. The Ovations might work, they are closer. My naked calf, no sock, is 15’’… I wonder how giving that gusset is.

Of course the Ovation would be completely out of stock…
