Cottonpickinwabbit - what I haven't told you

I will apologize up front for not filling everyone in sooner. The outpouring of support and jingles from his injury in February was absolutely overwhelming, I can’t thank everyone enough. It was actually for that reason that I held off posting.

Call me crazy (go on, do it) I didn’t want to be a jingle hog.

The night I left for Rolex, Cotton re-injured himself. Instead of putting the entire story here I put it in the blog (link below). Spoiler alert, there is a happy ending

I’ll warn you, there are a couple of graphic pictures so if you are squeamish . . .

I don’t know why I adore this horse so much, I just frigging do.

Ugh. My mare Kory did something similar last summer. Not quite as bad…you could only get your entire hand and half your forearm into hers. We also never figured out what she did it on. It was GROSS. We stuffed her wound with sterile wrap and used a ton of Scarlet Oil. It too healed well.

Glad he recovered and hope he has now gotten it all out of his system!

Oh my lord!! Yours definitely has mine beat now. Whatever are they thinking??? So glad he pulled through. These OTTBs sure heave some heart to them.

Holy crap! He’s the poster child for bubble wrap!

You sure win the horse mom award!! What a lucky guy to have you!! I hate to say it but “what will he think of next?”
I bet your vet loves you too.

Wishing you two a fun and healthy summer!!!

My goodness, that horse has heart and determination! I adore his spirit . I hope he keeps himself out of the injury zone long enough to get going to a competition- because I think his spirit is going to make him a winner.

Seriously! I’ve been saying he’s either going to be spectacular or six feet under.

He’s athletic as all get-out, so I’m banking on spectacular

I’ll third this. Action42 and I were talking about Cotton recently…and the lack of updates. I was afraid something less than ideal was going on and was WAY too chicken to pm you and ask. Major, major jingles and (((((hugs))))) He’s SOOO lucky to have you.

OMG what a guy!!! He is so lucky to have you.
You should buy stock in bubble wrap.
Glad he’s healing ok!!

You know, a long time ago I knew a breeder who had a very promising, very well-bred young TB colt who kept finding sand to eat and then suffering from sand colic. Of course the breeder investigated everything nutritionally - but really, the colt just seemed to like eating sand. This was like every week the vet had to come out and save his little life. (This was before the days of some of the sand-protecting supplements they have now.)

The breeder/owner finally looked that colt right in the eye and told him “That is the last time I’m calling the vet for you. The next time you eat sand and colic, you can just die.” I don’t know if the man meant it, but he made it sound like he did. Amazingly, the colt never sand-colicked again.

I’m not suggesting you tell Wabbit that you are not calling the vet out for him ever again, so he should consider his activities accordingly … but then again …

OMG. That is some wound! Cotton is a very, very lucky boy! He looks fantastic and I am so very glad that he is doing better.

For god’s sake!!

Enough already, Wabbit!

ACME; Here’s giving you strength to keep on keepin’ on.:encouragement:

Thank The Lord he was gelded…if we bred him to my mare DeeDee…a story of epic disasters …we would have a field day with names…1st pick,Vet Bill for a Colt and Miss Adventure for a filly. Cotton your a rare piece or work buddy glad you waited until, you went home before self destructing. Acme you deserve a vacation but may

I second or third this, ACME. And huge hugs and kudos to you for all you have been through with him.

Too funny. I actually did have that “conversation” with him! I told him he can be: A) a riding horse, B) a companion horse, or C) fertilizer. But he can’t be a non-rideable, self-destructive money pit.

In all seriousness, all of my peeps (including the vet) know where I stand: I will not rehab another self-inflicted injury. If he goes through the fence, climbs out of his stall, falls out of a tree . . .

There are actually 2 boarder mares on the farm, and one goes into “dorm ho” mode every time she’s in heat. She’ll wink and pee for anything, geldings, mares, ho don’t care. If he was still a colt we would be in BIG trouble

Thanks for the kind words everyone, he is so content to be back to work (not a horse that wants to be bored). Just think of the comeback story if and when he leaves the start box for the first time. He is just a remarkable horse, and a very special guy.

Holy guacamole, that was some big hole. It’s hard to believe he came throught it at all, much less back to riding.

He is so lucky to have you in his life! Hope it is nothing but smooth sailing for you both for the next couple of decades.

Yeesh that is a hole! But thank you for the pics- loved them! lol Big jingles for the silly boy.

P.

Criminy. Is he trying to get his name changed to CottonPACKINwabbit?

Glad he came through ok. He’s a lucky guy.
