Could use some Jingles - BO in buggy accident

We could use some prayers.

My BO was rear ended yesterday afternoon driving Mom’s pony home from the bakery. The (insert several expletives here) driver apparently misjudged the distance when he went to pass the BO and caught the back end of the buggy. Pretty sure he was speeding, it’s common on that road. Idiot.

BO is in ICU with a head injury. Pony ran off with the shafts when the buggy broke up. Somebody caught her & walked her back to the barn. I didn’t hear of any major injuries to her, but am sure she’s got several bumps & bruises, aside from being completely freaked out. Not sure she’ll ever drive again; not sure that Mom will trust her to drive again. Buggy is a total loss, harness might be ok.

Here’s the irony, my BO was actually driving a safe horse. He breaks all the lunatics in the area. Everyone out there has a “Dave Story” about some escapade where they found him in a ditch, front yard, back yard, or just stopped in the road with a balky horse. He drives an actual safe horse and this happens. Go figure. He usually avoids that road, except the bakery recently moved - no other way to get there.

So sorry to hear this. Jingles and prayers for your BO’s quick and full recovery.

Jingles for all.

Oh, scarey story. Major Jingles coming from Florida.

Really scary. Jingles for your BO and pony!

Jingles & AO for your BO and her pony ~ a driver’s worst fear ~

Jingles & AO for your BO and her pony ~ thoughts and prayers as well ~

  • this is a driver’s worst fear

I am so sorry! I really hope your BO is ok.
And I really wish people would be just a wee bit more patient out there!!

People see someone driving a horse, whether Amish or not, and all they can think of is how quickly they can pass them.

Jingling for all involved.

Sending good thoughts your BO’s way, so crappy for your BO and the horse!

Thanks so much.

Mom saw the pony, she looks ok. Vet is coming out anyway. Mom realized she needs the police report, since it was her pony & the driver will be responsible for the bill.

Sounds like the running gear separated from the top of the buggy, so the pony was relatively unaffected, i.e. no flopping, broken shafts, and stopped just around the corner. So hopefully she isn’t completely ruined.

Mom & Dad were in the area, but turned off the main road a couple turns before the wreck & missed the traffic jam - apparently it took 4 hours to clear, as the county cops were assumed it would be a homicide. She got home to friends calling, it was on the 6 pm news. The guy’s wife was shopping at Wal-Mart & didn’t find out for 2 hours.

BO is 79, even if he recovers well, it’s still going to affect him a lot. They were doing another MRI this morning.

The old man was barely a mile from home, turning off the main road. The driver apparently was going to pass him, but swerved back into him to avoid oncoming traffic.

No one knows if charges are going to be filed. I hope they are. Reckless driving at the minimum, I’d prefer attempted vehicular manslaughter. Maybe the county will wise up and change the blinking yellow light at the intersection to a stop sign or full signal.

Here’s the two of them on a better day. I still have a hard time believing this happened.

Well best hopes for Dave’s recovery, no hidden issues in body damages to find. Glad the pony seems alright. Sorry, no help to fix stupid in auto drivers.

We have started using a bike flag sideways, to insure more distance from cars that pass us. If they should hit the flag, the noise is better on their car, than hitting the vehicle. We have LOTS of reflectorized tape, vests on, to be highly visible on the road. Bike flag is not helpful for those who try to whip back into the lane almost before clearing the horses, but I am thinking on that. Folks in the UK have breakaway, bright colored “lollipops” they can buy to stick out sideways from the vehicle for keeping space by passing cars. Might be something we need to consider. The UK small width roads, farm roads, are even narrower than ours, so it is more dangerous with autos and carriages both using them at the same time.

I am beginning to think we need to call the newspaper, have a reporter come along for a ride, to write an article on road safety! But the dummies driving are not always out on the road, and not all car drivers are nasty either. Just need to remind folks that hitting a horse, even a little one, is GOING TO MESS UP THE AUTOMOBILE! If they think hitting a Whitetail deer is bad, they need to consider even a 12H PONY weighs 5 times or more, what even a big buck will weigh in at!! That is a LOT of animal to impact, have land in the front seat with you!!

Hoping for the best for the barn owner and the pony.

Jingles for your BO. Glad pony is okay.

Throw the book at the retard who hit them.

Adding my jingles from KY. Horse capitol of the world and they’re all on the racetrack so nobody knows how to share the road here either.

Major jingles!!

Oh my. Sending my well-wishes. I hope charges are pressed for sure.

Had a 72 year old friend run over by a pickup last summer.
He had many broken bones, but his head injury almost killed him.
He is still in rehab these months later, but doing great.

I hope your BO recovers fast and well.

So sorry, prayers for his speedy recovery.

Many jingles from So Cal for your BO!

Lots and lots of jingles from Wisconsin! I hope they throw the book at the %*@ who hit your BO!

Jingles from S. Calif.!
