COUNT the DOSES and STRAWS!!!
Some brokers get very defensive when asked how many straws per dose. Makes for an interesting conversation at times.
I had a broker get upset when I called for instruction on how to thaw the semen. No instructions came with the semen and we had the mare scrubbed and ready to breed. It was very expensive semen and the broker was very rude. It was the only time I had frozen semen arrive without thawing instructions.

Judy Yancey asks the receiving vet to check # of straws and sign-off that all are received as stated. Good idea. My vet tapes the empty straws to her insemination/care record, and gives me a photocopy of that. Each straw with pertinent ID is visible (as is her record of every procedure, time, date, over the course of the mare’s stay, be it 2 days or 2 weeks). I love that about my vet (Dr Tracey Chenier of Guelph Theriogen.

It’s so easy to take a video with a cell phone. Perhaps whomever is loading the shipper, and also the recipient who is unloading the shipper, should video tape doing so…then there won’t be a question about what was in the tank on each end of the shipment.

When you are transferring semen it is done very quickly so as not to expose the semen to room temperature for any longer than is absolutely necessary…ie it takes a few seconds. No way would anyone be able to see how many straws were in each cane during the switch.
