Craigslist mare in need of some serious groceries - Lake City FL - MARE HAS BEEN SOLD

Poor thing needs some food. Body score looks like a 2. PM me if you’d like the link to the ad…don’t think I’m allowed to post, right?

Text of the ad:

9 year old mare to rehome. I got her a couple mnths ago. As a rescue. Was really skinny. Still has a way to go with weight. I can no longer care for her. Must have own trailer.

I couldn’t find it. We can’t take anyone in, but if someone has a place for her, I’ll haul her.

If you go to the Lake City page, go to Farm & Garden, and search “mare” she’s the first result. $100 price tag.

Actually, that’s their second ad. They listed her back in June as well, for trade for a more beginner-friendly horse.

She looks better in the first ad, more weight on her.

I am SO reading between the lines and making assumptions here…but this feels like they “rescued” the mare to ride and can’t handle her, so they’re just not feeding her because she’s “crazy” and now they want to trade her for something “better”. Poor little thing, something about her face just breaks my heart.

:no::cry::mad:

Jesus.

I’ve emailed them to see if they still have her. Hoping they’ll provide some more information but I doubt it.

ETA: Found this ad as well, no pics attached:
Have a 9 year old mare I can no longer care for. She is a good horse but just had a baby and husband just started a new job. She is starting to get thin and needs a new home that can give her the home she deserves. Rehoming fee of 300. Email for more info and pics

So she’s “getting thin” in this ad. In the other ad she was “a thin rescue”.

Multiple ads with different wording makes me a little suspicious. Hopefully someone has room to help the mare get on her feet. My husband would kill me if I took in another horse. That and being across the country doesn’t help.

Put me down for a dribble if someone can take her.

I’m still giving $10 a month to our old TB mare Always Funny whom Kim took for us in Virginia.

Thanks cloudyandcallie. I’ve shared her ad on my personal FB but haven’t got any responses yet (impatient, I know). Are there any regional groups I should share this to?

Share with law enforcement. I’m in for a dribble too if someone gets her. She looks like she’d be pretty nicely built with some weight on her

What do y’all think she is TB?

OMG thank you OP for trying to help this poor horse who is more than ’ a little thin’ people who starve horses just drive me crazy. its like they threw this poor horse in a small paddock (complete with old cars and vending machines) and just expected her to live off of the sparse grass. hay isn’t that expensive! really hoping that this poor girl finds a soft landing ASAP.

Anyone in North Florida have some extra space? Grass is growing right now and she could use some of it… I’ll do door to door service.

She has a big head and a long build. I wonder if she’s gaited?

I have the space with my hard keeping tb I brought back from this condition and pony. I don’t however have the extra $350- $400 a month. $100 for extra horse in self care and groceries. :-/

I wondered if she was gaited as well.

I’ve had a few people share my post on facebook. No response to my email from the owner.

My husband would kill me if we brought her home. And we’re literally about to move.

BellaMia, would you be able to take her for a month or two until we found more a more permanent situation? I don’t want to put you out, I know rehabbing a starving horse is not cheap.

I have the space to until we find her a more permanent home, but I honestly don’t have the funds. My rehab sitting in the field now eats a solid $300 and a bit more in groceries every month on top of board and when I first got her she was pushing $450 a month to get her weight sorted out, so I expect this gal will be in the same ball park. With three, that is shoving me well over $1200 a month not including vet or farrier, which the later I can handle as my vet has me on a permanent payment plan, lol. I can get her started with grocery/board help, then someone will need to step up permanently for her. If we can pull in at least $600 for two months and push hard to get her placed, then I would be able to see about handling the rest. I can’t get left hanging in the wind though as I am not in a position financially to feed and board two hard keepers plus a third long term. Temp foster to get her started back up on her feet with beginning vet care only.

No response to your email? Uh-oh.
