hi everyone, I have a 16.3 hand TB chestnut mare with plenty of bling, and I’d like to find a cremello warmblood stallion to breed her to next season. Something with nice movement and a good temperament, as my mare has the best personality and would hate to breed her to something hot. Anything spring to mind?
thanks!!
Limet Hurry comes to mind, but what do you want the offspring to be doing besides being palomino?
Maybe check with Equivale. I think they stood Blue Eyed Dream who passed away. I saw him when he was approved for GOV and that was a nice stallion. Maybe they have still frozen?
Seconding the question about what’s the goal of the breeding.
If you want the offspring to be registered, then you’ll probably be limited to whichever registries have accepted colored stallions which I think isn’t a super long list (of stallions, for clarification). However, if you’re looking for a warmblood stallion based on the idea of quality gaits and improving on the thoroughbred way of going (and size isn’t a prerequisite) it might be worth looking into the german riding pony stallions. There are a number of really lovely, correct stallions (that come in “fun” colors, besides) and I think there’s more options there than there are in the full sized horses.
I’m not entirely certain on the registry options for offspring there, though. If registration is a goal beyond color, then I would definitely do your homework & contact people who would be able to answer some questions for you there.

If you are OK with a GRP, how about Golden West? I would love to breed to him, except I’ve decided I do NOT need to go through baby horse stuff this late in life:lol:
Always nice when a stallion owner has a page 8 years out of date for a stallion whose chief attribute seems to be his color since there is zero pedigree information.
I know a breeder that would put down cremello/isabella foals. He felt that this color was associated with poor “brain” or personality/work ethic.
I agree, the riding ponies might be a good cross for color and improvement of gaits. Working with a breeder who can show you records of offspring of these stallions put to TB mares would be great.
We had a few german riding ponies in the last barn I was with and they were everything I would have wanted.
WTF would he breed them then?!!
It seems that it wasn’t the horses who had poor brain, bad personality and lack of ethic
Dont know re frozen, but there are offspring. This horse did multiple disciplines, well. I used to watch him at some shows, he was lovely.
He didn’t “breed them” on purpose.
But if a cross produced a cremello, the horse was put down. This breeder had very particular breeding goals for performance, NOT color. Apparently in his experience the cremello’s did not measure up to his standards.
No need to be insulting. His breeding. HIs program. His horses.
I found our conversations very interesting. I don’t know if I agreed with all his logic, but one always learns something by talking with someone with a large breeding program.
I guess I find that weird because it isn’t exactly a secret what colors to avoid breeding together if you don’t want a cremello! He at least did the cross on purpose knowing there was a 25% or whatever chance of getting a foal he would euthanize…I do find that strange.
Like I said earlier, I engaged in a conversation to understand his logic…NOT to argue with him…
I was just passing on the comment FOR INFO, as the OP was looking only for color.
The point being that at least one breeder had an opinion on performance vs color.
This is not a breeding program… it’s stupidity.
He crosses horses that have the potential to create cremello foals… then kills them… If that’s not being crazy… Like, it’s quite easy NOT to breed for cremello if he truly was looking for performance only horses…
And you know what, If he really was breeding for performance, he wouldn’t care about the color… So in a sense, he is breeding for color… What a moron.
I found our conversations very interesting. I don’t know if I agreed with all his logic, but one always learns something by talking with someone with a large breeding program.
That you found this conversation interesting is baffling because there is no logic in this.
He just kill horses based on their color.
It’s like whirls theories or white legs theories… this is just BS…
Sounds like a Hitler breeding operation to me…
Don’t worry, I won’t comment on this no more… It just shows why we usually don’t agree on most everything.
He who mentions Hitler first, loses.
anyway, I think cremello/double dilute horses are supremely unattractive so I am not breeding my buckskin mare to anything single dilute. I have ponies so this actually limits my choices quite substantially.
Cant really imagine wanting to go the opposite direction and purposefully breed for color when someone wants a dressage horse. It’s unlikely to result in anything competitive unless you use a pony stallion.
I wouldn’t breed for color either and this is not my dream horse, but he is a very very nice horse and he is cremello and he was doing I1. So I think that is a bit competitive… So I don’t agree 100% with your post I just needed to defend this guy because I met him personally at my foal inspection

Soloudinhere didn’t say cremello horses weren’t competitive but that they were ugly so would conscientiously not breed one. Fair.
Soloud would not breed for color either. But I doubt that if there was ever a mistake, the poor cremello foal wouldn’t be killed for not being the right color.
I know, I know … hahaha
