Hey Guys! I recently purchased a BN/N ottb and my Woof Boots don’t offer enough protection. What boots do you recommend that are reasonably priced. (Around or less than $150) I have heard the Boyd Martin boots are amazing- so does anyone have any opinions? I have had bad experience with dalmars so those are a no-go. Thanks!
I like the Premier boots - https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/premier-equine-air-cooled-boots-9026
I love my Majyk Equipe boots - they are light weight, don’t hold water, offer great protection, and are the only pair that don’t rub my very sensitive horse. They also come in some subtle but nice colors.
I love the ME boots. I had the Boyd Martin ones for awhile then got the color ones. Both were great. I tried the Premier ones first and they gave my horse fetlock rubs (not saying that it was the boots’ fault, they just didn’t fit my horse) so switched to ME a couple years ago. He’s never gotten rubs, they’ve never held water or heat and they stay in place nicely.
Another vote for Majyk Equipe… my horse gets rubs from everything else.
Love Majyk Equipe! Check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZJFG7puA1w
Also breaths better than neoprene and doesn’t slide during a XC run.
I’ve used Boogaloos on several different horses and love them!
I wish I could remember what site it was on, but I saw Dalmars on sale half off - heard those are good.
Another vote for Boogaloos. I have one set that is 10+ years old and still going strong!
Well I think I’ve tried everything on the market. Hands down the Veredus are my favorite but may be a bit out of your price range. That said…for BN/N…I would be perfectly fine using Woof boots. You are not doing the speeds that make me want the higher end boots. So I would be fine with a good quality brushing boot like ones I use for everyday riding. I haven’t had Woof boots in a while but they newer ones seem fine. I use these by LeMieux. Their work boots. They hold up great and offer good basic protection but still breathable. I have not seen their xc boots. But save your money…until you are galloping at speeds Prelim and up…I don’t think you Need specialized xc boot…but of course you can use them if you want!

eta: I did buy a pair of the Majyk Equine boots for a horse…and then used a seam ripper to take off all the Boyd Martin labels (and I gave them to him). Then I liked the boots. They are good especially for the price point and do look much better without all that crap labeling on them!!!
I feel like there is a story and I want to hear it!
I have the Professional’s Choice Pro Performance XC boots and absolutely love them. They’re lightweight, don’t slide around and are breathable. They’d be at the top of your budget if you got a set of four.
I also have the VenTech Ballistic Protection Boots for every day use for my big guy, and also love these. I got them because my horse interferes behind and I was going through everyday brushing boots way too fast. I tried these, and they’ve lasted the longest, and were cheaper than some of the other brands. I would totally use them as XC boots for a low level horse.
Lol. Not really. I know him and we were at an event when I bought and did surgery on the boots. If he wasn’t right there I would have just tossed them.
I always hate names plastered on equipment…I’m not into hero worship either. Great for him though to have his name plastered on things ;). And they are a good product…which is why I bought them inspite of having Boyd’s name plastered on them. I did leave the company’s label on them.
That’s hilarious! I assume Boyd got a laugh out of it.
I was looking at the Majyk boot reviews on smartpak and it looked like a fair number of people had issues with them slipping, or not holding up well. Anyone here have bad experiences?
Another vote for these. I’ve had mine 4 years and they’re still in great shape.
Mine have never moved or slipped despite a fair amount of riding through water. They are also the only pair of XC that haven’t rubbed my thin skinned mare. Because of the protection they offer, they aren’t as “flexible”/easy to apply as something like a Professional Choice neoprene boot - you have to be more assertive to get them on tightly. I suspect people not applying them properly is why some have issues with slipping.
I’ve used mine for 1 season and have had no problems with them holding up, but I only use them for XC, so not a ton of work so far.
I use the LeMieux boots that BFNE linked to on my big horse. For a budget boot I also like the Amigo Airflow boots.

The Veredus boots are my absolute favorites, but are out of your price range I believe. The Majyk Equipe boots do tend to be very well received and although I don’t have experience with them myself, I wouldn’t mind trying a pair. That said, I do think Woof boots are just fine for the lower levels, as someone else mentioned.
I have the premier boots too and I like them. I don’t LOVE them. I have to velcro them a certain way to make sure they don’t slip. I’ve never had any problems with them rubbing, but if they aren’t velcroed just right the slip just enough to piss my mare off after going through the water. I have a 16.2hh thoroughbred and have the mediums in front and hind. I have had other friends at the barn have the same boots and they have to tape them to get them to stay in place.
I love the NEW airflow boots—they are very light and breathable, and have carbon fiber strike pads where you need them. They also come in a true cob size for light boned, but horse height equines. The only downside is needing to order them from the UK (the few US shops that carry them jack up the price by 100%).
