JSwan, sorry to hear about the big horse. I was hoping to meet hom on this trip. I do hope you’ll bring the “little” horse out with us in third field.
We MUST have pictures of the Basset puppy! And the house chicken.

Hellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooooooooo
I will be staying with Wateryglen, drivin’ up Fri a.m. and joining in the Pahty for the weekend. Even basseting on Sunday. WWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Do we have to behave???
Don’t think I’ll be able to get some moonshine on this short notice, however. So sorry.
Many Dogs,
I thought that is you from wateryglen’s emails! I’m sooo happpy that you are coming!!! I’ll have fun getting to know you.
Thank ya, thank ya, Whicker. I am sooo looking forward to meeting everyone and I plan to have a blast. I really hope I can do the spring hunt weekend ON a horse.
weather report!
Rain weds eve into thursday…turning much colder, sunny, with night time lows in low 30’s…dress warmly my hunting princesses! Gonna be chilly when you’re here. Layers! Wool socks! Chapstick!! and don’t forget to moisturize!!
Chilly in Virginny!!
00Pisces - it’s formal hunting season now and you GOTTA have a white stock tie with your black coat & black boots. Turtleneck ok underneath. Do you still need one.? We can bring for ya! Black field boots ok…I asked recently btw.
Dinner sat night at the Wateryglen Farm…warm fires, wine, tiara’s and I keep wondering when my cook and housecleaner is coming…I’m waaaaiting! Oh!! Wait!!! Manydogs is coming!!! yaaaayy!! :uhoh:
Noooooo problemo, WG! Here is my cooking/cleaning resume:
Has 10 dogs. Eight in house. George the Basset comes barreling through on his way to the back yard, smashing any feed bags in his path. Use the imagination app…
It is dark out now. HP-wannabee cannot distinguish between soft dirt and well, you know, horsie “stuff”. Tries to remember to leave boots at door…
I had PB&J for dinner last night. DH had leftover meatballs and spaghetti noodles drenched with cream of mushroom soup.
Recall my attire plans for the weekend: driving up in car jeans, car following/basseting jeans, faahhncy paahhty jeans for the dinnah.
Recall that one night I was worried you were going to call and discover I was all upset because I couldn’t find the…um…uh…gin for my…cough… nightly stress reliever. <FOR MEDICINAL PURPOSED ONLY>:eek:
My references either bark or whinny, but I will alert them that you might be inquiring.
When I last checked out the NOAA web site, it said low of 38 Friday night and Saturday high of 58…that’s shorts & T-shirt weather for us New Englanders
I’ll be bringing along a few layers just in case, but being a “woman of a certain age” does have it’s advantages, vis a’ vis staying warm. My hunt coat will be more than warm enough, I think, but I did score a Smartwool camisole at EMS, just in case.
Sounds like it will be a perfect weather weekend for you. I am very jealous! I’ll be thinking of all y’all!
wateryglen,
I should be ok, but thanks so much! I ordered one and it’s due to be delivered with boots and hairnet and new gloves (old ones ripped) and breeches (present tan ones are almost worn through in the seat) tomorrow. Coat is supposed to be delivered from LLBean today or tomorrow, I think. It’s black, it’s wool/cashmere, has three black buttons and a vent in the back. Should be fine, yes? At the LL Bean Site, in the Women’s Plus Sizes division, under Blazers if you feel like looking.
I kept putting off making a decision about hunting because I was all “waaaaaaaah, I don’t want to spend money” but I decided I was tired of waiting!! So then I was hmming and hawing about whether to track you down and raid your closet last weekend, but I got booked up early and decided to leave you alone . . . and just order new stuff. AND THEN! And then! I found a coat on SmartPak that was what I wanted (being a cheapskate fabric snob is really hard on the ol’ ticker!) but it was sold out in my size!!! So then I decided “Fiiiiiine, I’ll get a stupid polyester coat” but I was saved by the fabric gods–shipping and stocking issues meant they wouldn’t get here in time. So I had used up all the equestrian sites and had to move on to regular old clothing sites.
I am sooooo looking forward to dropping some more weight and eventually not being a “Plus size” anymore. It will make budget shopping a lot easier. My pants are pretty loose today, so I’m still making progress!
I am still very sad that I will not be joining you all for a fantastic hunt weekend.
Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
Electricity outage ate my message:(, have fun everybody, can’t wait to see pictures. Weather forecast looks perfect.
It’s here! It’s all here!
All my new stuff came early:
Trying on the coat . . . fits! is cute! Maybe a little big, but meh, that makes it layerable.
Turtleneck (LORD! I didn’t even have a white turtleneck!!!) PERFECT.
Breeches: Fit.
The big scary . . .
Boots: are going to get the crap worn out of them for the next three days, because that jabby thing on the back of my knee needs to die, now.
Stock tie: Is just as NOT-soft as I expected, but not worse! Still practicing tying it.
I took a picture and sent it to Hunter’s Rest, lol.
Cool!
See ya this weekend, 00pisces!
Where ever your boots need to softened place a generous amount of leather conditioner on the inside and outside of that spot and wear.
If you dont have any leather conditioner, extra virgin olive oil will do in a pinch.
If you are really brave you could try the get the boots soaking wet and wear them until they dry technique. I’ve never tried it before, but I do know it can work on leather in general. My oldest son left his new ball glove out in the rain and it was AMAZING how supple it was afterwards.
Wash the stock tie a couple of times and use fabric softener. Then just before coming iron it or steam the wrinkles out. That may take some of the scratch away.
Enjoy your weekend! It is a fun time and wish I could be there to enjoy it again. Maybe in the Spring.
Happy Hunting!!!
check tech
00pisces,
I have found that the tech fabric stock ties are much softer on my skin. If you are going to be around before Sat, You can try one of mine.
I learned many years ago to use many safety pins to keep the ties from riding up the collar and rubbing. That was a major misery before the advent of coolmax, etc.
woo hoo!!
00Pisces! Ditto on the oil around the lower calf to help them settle & drop. Yes keep wearing and each time they’ll get softer. The warmth of your leg will enable that too!
I use an english product called Flexalan. Its a thinnish oil that Journeyman Saddlery folks recommended. Sold in local tack shops, Horse Country I think has it. I always oil all new leather. Water proofs it, softens it. The leather workers will tell you to warm the oil in a pot on the stove and paint it on with a brush. Not hot…just warm. Let it soak, wait an hour or 2 then wipe off. Remember leather has pores like our skin so moisturize, moisturize, moisturize to prevent drying & cracking and to keep the dirt out!!
Thrilled about your “uniform” now here! You be stylin’ now!! Wear it with a smile and never let’em see ya sweat!!
BBtb is gonna be missed!
Flexalan is da bomb. I swear by that stuff.
It looks as if the weather is going to cooperate - which is a refreshing change. Here the beans are still in the fields (because of all the rain) and it’s been tough to hunt. Should be a fantastic weekend - and the Eastern View fixture is chocked full of rabbits in those hedgerows.
Thanks for all the advice, everyone! Actually, the boots aren’t leather. Sigh. There are two brands that come in sizes wide enough for my calves: Fuller Fillies, and Hesper (or something; it’s on amazon, but it looks suspect, and because it is a non-Amazon seller, the processing+ delivery was going to be too long). I have tried the fuller fillies boots on, and I thought the leather felt cheap. With my klutziness and laissez-faire cleaning abilities, I thought they would be a terrible, terrible purchase. Mountain Horse, however, has a winter dress-style riding boot that is wide enough for my calves. It is “synthetic leather” around the foot, and the leg is “duralon.” Not perfect, but if nobody looks too close, no one will be offended!
With the stock tie since I will be wearing a turtleneck, I think my oh-so-delicate skin will be mollified. But that doesn’t mean I won’t be down for examining other stock ties. However, 00pisces+borrowed white things=blood everywhere, for sure. It’s basic math!
hehe
