Dancier -- Anyone using him in 2011?

If you’re using him, post here and let us know how it goes.

I’ve only heard of one pregnancy with his semen. Past that, I’ve heard it’s not that great. I’m very interested in hearing how it goes this year if anyone tries.

Keep us posted!!

Thinking about it! Still working out the ‘final’ list…
Good to know about the concerns on semen quality…

I love Dancier, but until there are more reliable pregnancies from his frozen, he will remain off my mare’s dance card.

Speak to Celle about your concerns. They have a very good program and will not put a stallion with poor post thaw motility and poor fertility rates in their frozen program.

My Rotspon mare, EM Rhwanda got pregnant to Dancier with one dose whith a foal at her side. I had no idea there were problems with the semen. Maybe in this case, ignorance was bliss.

Definitely Mo lol During his first years of use even the fresh chilled was sort of thin but I had credited that to his having a very busy schedule.
A client used him for the first time last year caught with one insemination (fresh chilled though) and the resulting filly turned out so well we’re absolutely inclined to use him again.
Second the suggestion to speak to Celle. They probably can shed light on the matter I could well imagine his semen might be a lot better today than it was during his first two or three seasons.

Do they speak English at Celle? Or Kareen, could you asking Celle for us?

I’ve really liked the Dancier foals I’ve seen.

Good to know that his fertility is better. Home Again Farm tried him his first year with no luck, and she has a very good repro. system.

I’d love to know what year those getting pregnancies bought the semen. I have struck out repeatedly, using a mare that gets pregnant easily with frozen semen and the best repro vet in the area.

HAF, the only confirmed pregnancy I know of with frozen was the first year he was available here. Since then, I haven’t heard of any others that have been successful. A friend of mine bred to him in Germany (fresh cooled) 3 times without success. I was much luckier (probably the result of having a great vet … thanks, Kareen :D) and the result was a lovely filly this year. He’s definitely on my short list for 2011 but I don’t think I’ll be trying him here with frozen.

Mo Swanson, what year did you buy Dancier semen? Thanks!

I know of two people who have Danciers. One used just a regular vet and got a pregnancy. That was four years ago. Another I am pretty sure used a very good vet and got a lovely filly…now coming three.

We have 2 lovely yearling fillies by Dancier. We bought the semen in 2008. Both mares caught first time. However, our vet (luckily) is Juan Samper. He said the semen was just OK. We tried to breed back one of the mares (twice) this year and she did not catch. There is another yearling colt here in the area as well from semen that I think the owner brought over from Celle. She tried again this year and also did not get a pregnancy. Maybe Juan’s magic had run out!
We do love our fillies though…

Yes, they speak English at Celle. Dr. Axel Brockmann speaks good English. He will also also provide you superb breeding advice because that man knows his lineages and what lines work together. If you email, also provide him excellent quality conformation shots of your mare, and what your expectations for the foal are. Also, her pedigree.

He may agree that Dancier is a good nick for her and will speak to you about his semen and what extenders they are using and how they prepare his semen for freezing now that makes it better than when it first started. There are many, many more choices now for freezing semen than when this first started, and a stallion who couldn’t be frozen 6 years ago, might now be good simply because the technology and materials are constantly improving.

If he doesn’t think Dancier is the best choice for your mare, if you’re open to suggestions, he may suggest a different choice for you. He’s not pushy, however, and obviously it’s your final choice.

He picked out 3 stallions for my young mare and I’m following his advice. Actually, I asked him if he thought my filly was worth hanging onto for the breeding shed (because she was really ugly at that point and I was having serious doubts about her future role as a broodie) and he said definitely but to give her another year to grow and then breed. I have followed his advice and he’s been bang on. She’s going to be okay and she’s about to be partnered with Weltmeyer in the spring.

Well, multiple attempts without success made me pretty well done with trying. Hopefully, subsequent freezings have been more successful. He is a lovely stallion.

When Juan Samper has a hard time, and in fact his magic runs out, I will keep looking for the perfect stallion.

Dancier has some approved stallion sons you could try, approved Hanoverian Verband. I have not checked the other Verbands, but it is also an option worth looking into.
(Sire - Damsire - granddam-sire)
Dagostini (Dancier - Donnerhall - Pik Bube)
Dantander Hit (Dancier - Sandro Hit - Brentano II)
Don Dancier (Dancier - Hohenstein - Glorieux)
Don Nobless (Dancier - Don Davidoff - Matcho) - I am not totally sure this one offers frozen, you’d have to double-check this.

I’m sorry, I’m not really sure. I have my own N2 tanks and I buy a lot of frozen semen, plus I store semen from my own collections on my own stallions. I “may” have bought it from A1 or Superior equine during one of their sales, so it may have been from an earlier year’s freeze.

Still up in the air. Have a lovely coming 2 year old colt(dam is tall 172 cm) COrdoba/Weltmeyer. But he often throws smaller and a bit flatter movement for my taste (note, I bought my colt, and he is good size)

All about fitting the mares, and there are so many good stallions lol

A friend of mine has one here in NZ from frozen. He is I think 3yrs now.
