Too funny!!
How old is she?
A great holiday gift might be Jane Savoies book, That Winning Feeling
She’s 10. I actually have that book myself
Sounds like this situation turned out to be for the best. Imagine how much money you were going to waste on top of the money it took to ruin her confidence
Am I the only one that when I was a kid thought it was much easier to canter than to trot?
So glad that your kiddo is happy again.
She loves to canter, always did! But after two transitions with bucking she got nervous about the transition. But now she’s back at it and she looks great too. She’s very proud of herself, this was hard to overcome!
That’s awesome, congrats to everyone in her team for helping her get there.
Still doing wonderful in the same program. She just did her second show, her first one off property though.
She pulled 1st out of ten in her equitation flat class. Many of the kids were older than her too. She’s having a blast and leasing a lesson horse. Sometimes you just have to find the right program for the child!

Still true.
As a trainer friend once told me:
“You empower the trainer”
For your kid & you.
Thank you so much for updating. Not just for curiosity about how this turned out either.
Many come on here looking for advice on the same problems. Its great to have a complete story to show them there is a light at the end of the tunnel and how to reach it.
I forgot to add, she’s a cantering fool these days. I’m pretty sure if she could just canter 100% of the time she would lol!! Her confidence has just blossomed so much.
Such a difference. Finding the right program and then taking it slow and at her own pace has really paid off. There is definitely hope!!
Bet judges love her leg, neat to see a youngster coming along with such a serious smile.
We needed that kind of nice story today, brighten our day, thank you.
Her position is a highlight even though that older Crosby does her no favors! That horse is a tough fit though!
It was a very relaxed schooling show with the fun Halloween theme. Absolutely a perfect first outing. My husband pulled his first horse trailer too and we were just all calm and polite to each other. I was proud of us as a family as I know myself can get a little tense at shows. My daughter was pretty relaxed and had fun. As it should be!
Last one but this is what it’s about!
so cute! very happy this had a happy ending.
Have not gotten through most of the posts. First, I’m sure you and the trainer have explained to your daughter that falling off is a normal thing and some will say you’re not a real rider until you have a few spills. But there are falls and there are falls. I’ve had falls where I’ve gotten up laughing and other falls where I’m never getting on “that” horse again.
When my niece was taking riding lessons and had her first spill, I congratulated her on getting the first fall over with and asked her if she wanted to bring cookies or brownies to her next lesson and tried to get her excited about that.
I think it’s also important to have them in a program where they’re not belittled for having their confidence shaken instead of boosted, and having a trainer know that maybe it might be a good idea to switch horses/ponies for a while. I watched a lesson once where i nearly had to intervene with the way this instructor was teaching. the poor kid was on one of those school horses that is a difficult ride. and it just got worse and worse, the poor kid was embarrassed, the instructor belittling her every stride, she was crying, instructor yelling more. Horrible. I think if it I were the instructor I would’ve said Rocky is being naughty today, and since it’s towards the end of the lesson let’s put you upon Sparkles so you can get a nice canter in.
I think its important to for any level rider to end on a good and positive note. I hope your daughter finds her confidence again.
