Isnt the trainer listed with the online scores?
SendenHorse, Mary Babick is a fine human being and an excellent horsewoman.
She is however, the President of the USHJA ( the United States Hunter Jumper Association ) and thus has her hands full with the current nightmare that the H/J discipline is presenting at the moment.
Less awful, in that she didnât seem as frustrated with the horse and wasnât taking her frustration out on him. Iâm guessing the judges couldnât see it the one time she did one hand the reins to use the whip. Axelâs commentary was spot on.
No. Trainer is usually not listed anywhere.
Even on entry forms, âtrainerâ is defined as the adult responsible for the care of the horse while on the showgrounds, so it is not necessarily who trains the horse, as a rider who takes care of her own horse will sign as trainer.
âCoachâ is the person paid for instruction of the rider while on the showgrounds, and thatâs never listed anywhere. You will only find it on the entry form.
OMG. That pony! Adorable! Very nice pair with much talent.
As for the second rider, she is just too rough. Yes she boots the horse because she is hanging the horseâs mouthâŠso uh, yeah, itâs not going to be so forward. She seems to balance off of the reins at times. That kind of riding makes one dull horse I imagine. I think the pair could benefit from some longe lessons with no reins for the rider. I think with some work on core/seat that could solve a lot of what we see. Then there is less riding with the hand and leg/spur. Just my opinion though.
That pony is so cute! I felt bad for Emily, but also found it super cute on Friday when the pony was having some pony attitude.
yes I realize thatâŠhorses are horses, people are peopleâŠ
I thought this ride qualtified as âa dressage nightmareâ and her article spoke to this exact dialog we are having here- the fear of calling people out, oh how dare we say the name-- tip toe around it.
Not acceptable.
I have been enjoying watching the live stream, and Axelâs commentary is almost like auditing a clinic even though I have no hope of ever reaching this level of riding.
I do have a questionâŠat the free walk I thought the horse was suppose to stretch down and out, most of these horses are just barely poking their noses out from where they are when collectedâŠ?
That is not a free walk once you get to Third Level - it becomes an extended walk, so they stay more connected but are supposed to extend their stride and their frame - just not all the way down like a free walk.
One more question⊠When there is a huge discrepancy between what the judge at C and what the judge at B score the test, what is the recourse or process to sort that out? A couple of times Axel mentions âthey will have to sort that outâ but never says exactly what is done to sort that out.
Ah okay, I havenât seriously read through the higher test so I wasnât aware that it changed. :o
Yep! My horse was SUPER grumpy when I first broke the news that not only did he have to show in a double bridle but he also no longer got a free walk⊠his favorite part of the test
In the extended walk the horseâs nose should reach out in front of the vertical, but there isnât the downward and forward stretch you want in a free walk.
Regarding scoring discrepancies first they need to sort out whether it was simply an input error, where someone entered the wrong mark in the e-scoring system. If not and the discrepancy is more than a certain number of points (canât remember how many) I think the judging panel has to discuss it. In many cases itâs as simple as a judge at one location seeing an error that judges in other locations couldnât or didnât see.
Do not need to show in double bridle at national shows.

Oh yeah, my girls favorite gaits are the stretchy walk and trot!
I know - the double helps me with getting clean changes so we are using it at the moment. I anticipate being able to show in the snaffle in few months once he is stronger and less green about the changes
My only opinions are that the pony is just too cute and I like the commentary, it is very educational!
Any thoughts about the Laura Graves master class? I thought the riders all did a good job in that environment
