Thanks

Open cell foam is cheap and compresses quickly. That’s what’s in the ECP pads.
If you want foam, Fleeceworks is hard to beat. Otherwise: Toklat Matrix with poron or poron/memory foam inserts.

You could buy Thinline shims. Or buy a cheap yoga mat and cut out all the shims you want for $10. I have a Thinline shim pad, but I use yoga mat shims inside of it instead of additional Thinline padding.

Prolite saddle pads are what you are looking for in a correction pad.

Wow smart. I did not think of this.

I’ve never had anything Prolite compress. My Mattes pad came with what appears to be felt shims, and maybe they wouldn’t compress either, but you may need to use a few to achieve the right amount of lift. I’ve never used them though.

I’ve heard about the Yoga mat thing more than once, but again, I’ve never tried it.

Thanks for the suggestions. Has anyone tried using a memory foam mattress?

I was going to suggest the blue camping mats from Walmart (closed cell foam)—have traced them and used them for boot insoles–comfy!

I use my Mattes felt shims in my ECP pads if I need a little shimming to balance left/right but don’t want the bulk of the sheepskin pad. Sometimes 1 is enough, sometimes 3. Depending on the saddle I have also used a yoga mat cut to fit or tucked up in the saddle itself instead of part of the pad. For some saddles their is a gap between the top of the saddle and the flocking that you can slide the yoga mat piece into.

My saddle fitter recommends wool felt shims. Buy a felt western saddle pad (1/2" or 3/4", whatever thickness you need) and cut shims to fit your half pad pockets. The felt is breathable, unlike the closed cell foam, and doesn’t “rebound bounce” like the rubbery foam inserts.

Thank you all for the great advice.

I ended up getting this pad.

How do you like it? Did it compact down?

Honestly about ready to spring for one, and just have it for a while.

@Fellbutbackup I have found that in the almost year I have had it, it hasn’t compressed. The shims are pretty sturdy.

I have only used the front shims.

Thank you for the photos and recommendation!

Anyone have experience with the Dover Circuit Sheepskin Shimmable Pad? Or the Weatherbeeta Memory Foam Shimmable Half Pad?

Otherwise will go with the LeMiex posted by @arbeegirl Thanks!

These are excellent pads; https://www.lemieuxproducts.com/lemieux/corrective-pads
especially the sheepskin ones.
(their prices include VAT. If you ship to the US you don’t pay it)
