Thanks
I am curious for answers! I have found that I get annoyed in mine because the pants stick to the saddle and I slide around in the pants. They fit, but in each brand I have, I feel myself getting rubs because of the sliding in the pants.
I gave up on mine. They are squeaky when I post and stay glued to the saddle.
I bought Kerrits silicone full seat breeches a few years ago.
I have never had them stick to the saddle, in fact one time they did not stick well enough, but my saddle was getting wet in the rain and I had soaped it the day before, big mistake as far as sticking to the saddle was concerned.
Otherwise I love my silicon breeches and I feel so much more secure in the saddle when I wear them as I do not slip around in the saddle like I do in regular breeches or tights.
There is definitely a balance to be found. I tried some tights a while back, and will never wear them in the saddle again because they stuck to the saddle, but I just slid around in them.
I bought a pair of Hadley (SmartPak) silicone full seats on sale last year. I really like them, and they are similar to my regular full seats in terms of stickiness, The pattern is such that there is a minimum of silicone relative to fabric. I think for me, a more dense pattern is too much, but like all things horse, YMMV.
As a quick test of new breeches, I recommend the get-out-of-your-car method. If you stick more to the seat in the silicone seats than your regular full seats, they are too sticky. (I have leather seats in my car - I don’t know how this works with fabric seats)
I’ve got a few different brands and they all have different degrees of stickiness. One thing they all have in common though is with age and many washings they become less sticky and way easier to deal with.
Thanks for your comment! Do you have a rough scale of brands by stickiness that you can share with us?
I never thought I would like them…but finally tried a pair. Now its all I ride in. I have the Horze Grand Prix, and the silicone is lighter on some spots and heavier in others, which makes them sticky where you really need it. And they are so comfy, great fabric, wash beautifully. They wear like iron too.
They run about $120.
I hear that some don’t like the Horze as Company…not sure why. They are a European company I think.
I ride a lot and rotate 3 pairs. Only ones I own!

Neat! Is the fabric thicker like breeches or thinner like tights? Some of their “breeches” are really just tights with buttons.
Opinions on the stickiness of the Fits silicone breeches? I’m curious to try them but it would be my first foray into silicone ones.
I cannot stand silicone grip breeches. It’s harder to find the plain old full seats now, but they’re still out there. The market has been totally flooded with silicone grip, so I suppose I am the minority in not liking them.
I did keep one pair from Horze since they have a nice big phone pocket and the silicone is very spread out/minimal. They’re good for hacking.
@Pico Banana I have the silicon FITS! I think they are the tech tread or something… They are more like an extended knee patch so no silicon on the butt. I LOVE them. They allow my butt to move with the horse especially at the canter but the thigh tread keeps me “centered.”
I made the mistake of foxhunting for 4.5 hours in the Piper silicone breeches and had chafing. I switched underwear to a thin microfiber boy short type thing that goes down about a 1/3 or 1/2 way down my thigh. That solved the problem.
While I love FITS leather full seats, the silicon FITS I had squeaked with every post. Drove both me & my horse nuts. Haven’t been willing to try another pair of silicon since.
I have the Kerits silicone full seat breeches. At first I hated them. I could not get my butt out of the tack. Did not use them much at first.
I had replaced my cheaper saddle with a good quality used one that had nice soft supple leather instead of the slippery cheap stuff. Ended up using the breeches with this saddle and the change was immense. I stuck just the right amount, but could easily post and felt I could still move. Now these are my go to breeches, will pick them over suede full seats any day. And surprisingly they are not too hot. Of course, I prefer knee patch tights on super hot days, but I found the silicone full seats cooler then the suede full seats.
I am in full agreement with you. Its harder to find the plain ones but I simply hate the silicone grip…
After lots of trial and error, I’ve found that the best full seats have to have smaller bits of silicon and a slightly thicker/stronger fabric. While everyone’s preference is different, I don’t like ANY cotton in a breech/tights, and there are certain synthetic blends that don’t give the “snap” needed to stick with your bum as opposed to being pulled away from your skin by the silicon.
I usually order my supplies online, so I’ve gotten good at checking out the fabric composition of the tights before I buy them. If its just a nylon/spandex blend, I pass, but if it is a polyester/elastane blend (like my Dublin cool gel tights) or or polyester/polyamide/spandex blend like the Horze Isabella tights then I’m pretty sure the tight will be strong enough to do the job.
Thank you. That makes a lot of sense
The silicone full-seats don’t work for me. Their chafing is real, and there is supposed to be some give to my seat, after all. Give = as in ability to adjust, effortlessly change the position and length of leg in a bend, etc.
Went back to full-seat all-leather breeches, after trying a few silicones. I ride a lot, have more than a dozen or so pairs of different brands. Leather on leather is lovely. Plastic on leather is hot and sticky and unyielding.
