Thanks Mods. Although it was interesting…

God does call us to suffer for his name sake. If we suffer with him, we shall reign with him.

As far as the letter from Chiropractor Sandy, it is a twisted perversion of facts. Not far different from a Godless homosexual lifestyle.
Seriously…get some help.

This is what the Lord told me at the beginning of this ordeal.
“Who shall lay any charge to God’s elect? It is God who justifies and God who condemns.”
He has allowed this all to happen for a purpose.
He is gathering all of those who hate him together.
Watch and see.
It was hatred and jealosy that caused someone to make those first bogus claims against me that got this ball rolling. You can see the hate in these forums, so thick you can cut it with a knife.
With all due respect, I don’t find this particular God worth having. Either He is homophobic (but see omnipotent and intervening above) or worried about comparatively petty stuff like who likes to have sex with whom.
But my other question is about why the state of Texas would bother with this horse owner in the first place unless there was something appreciably wrong. I think I missed that part of the story.
This isn’t to say that initial allegations wouldn’t be revised later, or that the various agencies who followed up didn’t do wrong.
But it’s so expensive to confiscate animals and prosecute accused people! I assume the state was compelled to bother, you know?
Yes, it is. Until this past year, if the horses were ordered euthanized or sent to a rescue, there was no appeal. This was quite helpful for those of us in rescue - because I’ve had horses tied up in appeals for over a year in another state, and it gets expensive holding those horses and caring for them for all of that time.
Obviously, a lot of people didn’t like the ‘no appeal’ part but the rescues and animals shelters and cities and counties didn’t want to get stuck holding animals forever. So this was a compromise. AND if it is an animal owner whose animals are taken when they shouldn’t be, this does allow them to get their animals back quickly. And gives them a chance to have their voice heard (more than once if they wish to appeal).

for those who have a Facebook page, you just might be “friends” with her on facebook. her name is “Devorah aikman” and she is from stephenville, TX. She is known for taking in some nice, nice TB’s off the track for TB retirement/adoption.
You know, the saddest part of all this is that she may have scared some folks off of turning in some horses that might need to be rehomed, or maybe supporting a rescue in their area. And that’s a shame, because there are a lot of people out there quietly doing terrific jobs of taking the racetrack washouts/rejects and turning them into solid citizens. Case in point, Final Furlongs.
So don’t give up hope, everyone. For every - um, how to put this - not so great “rescuer”, there are many that are doing what they can to help these horses find new homes.
Perhaps in “honor” of the subject of this thread, we can each write a check to a legitimate rescue of our choice. That way some good can come of this.
Seriously? I leave to get 6 blankets washed and someone gets banned, this thread grew 4 pages and the other one went “poof”! I can’t look away for a minute!

I know, right. The minute you thought it was over, there she was again!
WOW! This was way interesting!
I think that compromise is reasonable. Because as important as it is to ensure that rescues/shelters aren’t stuck with huge bills - the defendants rights (including property rights) must be preserved.
It would seem that the only way to do that would be to expedite the process.
Though I’d note that the standard of evidence for a civil case is much lower than a criminal case. (Unless Texas is different than most other states).
You saw the pictures, right? In one of the photos of the VERY skinny chestnut the “aftermath of fighting” that Devorah references looks exactly like long-ignored rain rot or some other skin funk. I see a mass of crusty greyish scabby stuff and even crusts in the mane, not fresh bite wounds.
In general, if one has hard keepers that are failing weight wise and they are capable horse people, they will have veterinary notes and receipts, feed receipts and the like to back up all efforts being made to care for the mysteriously skinny horse. When such things aren’t presented in court, what is there to believe but that horse are skinny due to mismanagement? Devorah herself even says that the judge called all of her testimony hearsay. Please, find me a judge that calls hay and feed receipts and veterinary testimony hearsay.
Devorah, your horse management skills were weighed, measured and found wanting. No witch hunt, no conspiracy. In my experience, unquestionably adequate animal husbandry isn’t questioned. To leave room for questioning is to set oneself up for potential heartache.
I find it interesting that there are multiple identical pics of the same dark brown horse on Devorah’s FB page. In one album she’s posted the photo (in August) to demonstrate in what lovely shape the horse was at the time of the seizure (or shortly after or something). In another album, she’s posted the same photo to show how great he looks now. The photo in the “now” album is supposed to be showing how great this horse looks NOW and was posted on November 28 (I think) and is the EXACT same photo posted in August. Not a big deal, I guess, but enough to make me question her credibility.
Um, I posted above before reading far enough to realize that the Wicked Witch is dead! Sorry, All. It’s a shame she can’t be banned from horse ownership b/c I get the distinct feeling that the seizure was warranted.

Ya think?
Naturalequss, you cause me to recall a saying I have heard elsewhere - one which cautions you not to be so open minded your brains fall out. Why not read the articles, look at the pictures, observe the posts of Devorah and come to a conclusion? Instead of trying to appear as though you ride above it all. None of them by themselves will provide the whole picture but putting all the pieces together will give you a pretty good darn idea of what’s going on…
I am a bit confused. Is this case over? I was feeling the need for a letter writing campaign to the prosecutor but can’t figure out if its too late for that or not.
Natual Equus, like all charities, there are good rescues and there are bad, then there are the barely adequate. I do think most start out with good intentions. Like any business, some are very good and successful at what they do, some have only good intentions to fall back on. Also hoarders are drawn to the “rescue” model.
It’s up to the public to thoroughly vet any rescue, just as you would before donating to any charity. It’s also up to the public to out any “bad” rescue and publicize the good.

Have to say this totally just cracked me up.
Bless you Mods. Surely God has looked upon you and your decision and smiled. Go…be fruitful and multiply…(just think…there could be a Mod 3, 4, 5, 6, 7…well you get the general idea.). God Bless.

Well I gotta tell ya, It would be nice if all this stuff would come to an end.
I haven’t posted for the reasons you all have witness over the last several months concerning this mess.
Afleet Bob is doing fine, he has become quite the character. He is up to weight and boy he is a smart one. He is well behaved an loves to play when you atempt to halter him.
Now the word has been been put out there not to breed to him in 2011, and he hasn’t been offered for outside breeding. Anyways I will be looking into what has been posted on the net, and what I can do to have it removed.
Many stories have been told and retold concerning me and my family so be it. I am using the duck effect, just let the water run off my back. Just to let everyone know.
I would like this all to end.
Again Afleet Bob is doing fine. He is coming into his third shoeing, he can run around in his turn out without showing any signs of his old injury.
Please let it rest… This is getting really old.

Perhaps you should heed your own advice - this thread was going away until you “bumped” back up!

You might want to start with getting this off the 'net:
Here we go again. A thread that was dying brought back to life by someone claiming they want it to go away.
Where is the logic in that?
