Did anyone in Canton/Alpharetta GA lose an EMU?

Oh Lord LMH- do all of the odd strays in Cherokee county end up at your house? It seems as though you have found his owners. I was going to say that he may be from the farm by my parents house that has two. The people that own that place can’t keep anything fenced- cows, goats, donkeys, emus… Animal control is constantly chasing them all down the street.

BTW- I swear I read an ad recently that offered a group of emus for sale with a stun gun included. No kidding. I think it was in Stablemates.

I thought I would ask a question of people posting on this thread, since it is about the Canton area of GA. Could anyone PT me and tell me what the zoning for horses in the Woodstock and Hickory Flat area of Cherokee county is? How many acres for how many horses? Does agricultural vs. residential make a difference, etc? Any help, would be greatly appreciated. I have searched online and found zoning for Canton and Roswell, but not the area of Cherokee county that I need. Thanks!

I was wondering what emus eat, and so was going to do a search on Google.

Thought you might all find this highly amusing.

I would catch a flight from O’Hare to watch that. Let me know if it comes about.

The relevance of this is seriously marginal, but still—

I took DP to an open show a couple of weekends ago, mostly just for an outing (didn’t show). There was a woman there competing in western classes on a lovely mule. A few of the horses weren’t thrilled with the mule, but since I have my donekygirls at home, every time the mule hee-hawed, DP started nickering for his donkey girls! Far from being put off by the mule.

However, there was one very cute little girl all dressed up in formal saddle-seat atire, mounted on a lovely, round paint pony–who’s tail was, I swear, longer than the pony was from nose to, well, tail. It dragged on the ground when out of it’s tailbag. So, she goes in this go-as-you-please class, or some other mixed class, and there’s this one young horse, a bit on the edge due to the show situation anyway, and every time the little gaited pony would rack by with this tremendous train of bright, white tail behind it, the young horse just lost it.

I’ve seen that tail thing before at these mixed shows; I can’t help wondering if they ever get all tangled up in a large class at a gaited show?? Do then never ask for a reinback?

Whenever I go to one of these shows, I almost expect something like an emu to show up… (how about rent-an-emu for a trail class obstacle?)

It’s back!!! Yea!!! Well, I can only add that I drove past Ugly Emu Farm the other day and thought about the thread. The young emus are looking less like feather dusters and more like emus. I don’t know which is worse, really.

I know that you would have to be careful with roping it, but I am not sure the tranq gun option is any better. Since it doesn’t respond to “Here emu, emu, emu” you may need to get creative.

Maybe you could get some cowboy types to herd it in to a round pen. I don’t think emus have the gift of flight, so would it stay in a round pen? Can they climb? Jump? Maybe you could put a cover/ tarp on a round pen I don’t know. I am grasping at ideas here. Oooo- could you wrangle it with a 4 wheeler? Ok. I give up.

Somehow I think Richard would do it. He likes to flex his cowboy muscles and this would surely add to his resume. Emu Wrangler. Sounds catchy.

Ive already told you … you take it to Liz Hall …

:Spot: </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

That’s right! Between rebuilding her farm and breeding/foaling duties, she probably wouldn’t notice a spare emu running around

Does he have water and food? What do EMU’s eat?

You’re just not sharing the drink Get a couple cans of Guinness for the horses, sit around, make s’mores, have a regular party of it They’ll enjoy the damn bird eventually!

On a more serious note (although I’d eventually try the abovementioned suggestion out of desperation) would they relax if they saw you chasing the emu around? Like, if you go near it, it can’t be as scary as they think it is?

Oh no! They’re baaaaaaack! (complete with video)

Yep. Let’s just say to keep up with the latest trend in hot walkers, we’ll need to enclose it in beautifully aged brick and cover it with a spanish tile roof. Can you say, “Bloody luxury?”

Orange security fence, if the emu is in a large area, not corral panels. They’re too heavy and leave too much escape room in a large paddock. The security fence is light, animals generally want to move away from it, and with a long lenght of it, and group of people, you can essentially “squeeze” the animal across a wide open area and into a smaller one in a quiet, calm manner. Just walk slowly.

Rope shold only tighten when low over the shoulders to spare the neck.

Sigh. I’m just trying to give you some experience-based suggestions here. At least until you get actual emu owners out.

Ive just GOTTA ask … what the heck are we going to talk about now and check up on, now that LMH’s emu is gone?!

Can you not find where they took him and bring him B~A~C~K for God’s sakes?!!!

Its going to be VERY quiet around here now …

A friend of mine from Florida is relocating up here and is going to be working at the rescue that took the emu. (at least I think it’s the same place). Talk about small world!
