Discuss the NBC WEG coverage here

I enjoyed this morning’s coverage. Agree that we aren’t ever going to get much on the major networks- but at least the quality has improved markedly.

Back in the day, about the only thing you ever saw on the Olympics coverage was the eventing crashes.

Note to self to be sure to thank NBC and local affiliate!

Next weekend I’ll be watching on site!

For network coverage, I’m ok with what they presented. Would’ve liked a few more rides, a few less prepackaged pieces. But this was certainly better than anything on dressage they’ve ever done in the past, so I hope that they will present dressage this time around similarly to how they did today’s reining coverage. Actually, I was reminded of gymnastics coverage - show a routine, go to commercials, show a routine puff piece, commercials, show a routine…

The recap of the opening ceremonies was sort of a “why bother” few moments for me. Could’ve used that time for another reining pattern.

I agree with the poster above that the dressage schooling ring background to the commentator was one of the highlights!

And I confess that I got a bit teary-eyed over the intro at the very start of the program, showing the KY vistas and all the different horses competing (more than a few shots of the Rolex 3D).

I thought todays coverage was great… the reining was AWESOME! the horsey commercials AWESOME! I am very pleased it was covered so nicely:)

Last night~~~the opening ceremony ~ummmmm, no. They cut away to commercial everytime something cool was about to happen…

I kinda had to LOL at a couple of things: Captian Kirk. :lol:the ballerina doing the spanish walk. :lol:Wynona’s boobs. the nonsense commercial for ? reem ?

(but I have a wry sense of humour)

and gee…did anyone think the Princess was EXACTLY what a princess would be? straight out of a Disney movie: beautiful, sweet, well spoken, probably has A LOT of pretty ponies;)

The weather is perfect today. I hope we rock WEG and get it back in the ensuing years:)

The only place I can see this is on NBC, and I’m grateful to see “horsey” sports coverage plus kind of cool commercials on a Sunday.
Loved the opening Bill Shatner monologue on why Lexington is America’s “horseland”. I just love spending time in KY-horses, bourbon & music!

Although that was my first time seeing top level reining, I agree after three performances, it got a bit tedious. Although you need to see several to compare if you’re new at this.

I am VERY much looking forward to seeing the dressage and especially vaulting! I’m sure the driving and cross country will be limited because of course area.

But SO GREAT to see this on TV. I’m recording it all to show friends/family what it’s all about and how exciting horse sports can be.

:cry: nope The Entertainers is on despite Equestrian listed in the local paper.

oh crap it’s the sit down and angry write time - been there, done that before and never received any acknowledgement!! Total ignore. Bad NBC to ignore their market and not insist on the publicly announced schedule to be run nationally.[/QUOTE]

We didn’t get it here either due to the baseball game. I’m a baseball fan and understand the draw, but there are 162 baseball games every year, our NBC affiliate picks up every Sunday game, of which there are more than 25 during the season. It would be nice if they could put WEG in, since it’s not a weekly, or even yearly occurance.
I emailed our affiliate to ask if they could air it in the middle of the night or something (I don’t know if that’s possible), instead of reruns and paid programming. At least then I could DVR it and catch it the next day, but they never responded. A reply of any kind would have been appreciated.
I went ahead and bought the Universal Sports coverage, and can’t wait to get home tonight to start watching. I’ll be there volunteering the rest of the week, but won’t get to see much of the actual competition, so I can’t wait to get back to the hotel to catch up in the evenings!

um, yeah

They are covering 65 hours. USEF is only able to cover what the pay sites aren’t covering. The NBC Universal coverage is absolutely fabulous! IF and only if you have high speed. If you don’t have high speed, and can’t get anyone to ‘loan’ you a 'puter, you are SOL I’m afraid! It cost $29. and there are several links to it. Look around it is available. There is a list on site as to exactly what they are covering. For example, They didn’t cover reining so it was available on USEF.

Received a reply to my “thank you” email to my local NBC affiliate. Matt told me that they plan to have six 30-minute segments on the WEG. This would be NBC4 in DC. I asked him if he could provide me a schedule or point me in the direction of one. Will let you all know if you’re interested.

Don’t have high-speed here, so NBC is the available option.

Irritated

It’s clear that money is the number one idea on NBC. I wactched last Sunday. All reining, all the time. Brief blurb about endurance. There are how many events at WEG? Tons, basically. And they concentrate only on the reining. But with AQHA as the major sponsor, we probably won’t see much else on the major network.

Guess I’ll try to watch CBUT, they’ll be better (as always) - they are much more even handed, no matter what who the sponsor is.

FEI TV seems to be covering everything. I only bought the one-day pass so I could watch the Freestyles and now I’m wishing I’d sprung for the month.

I’m hoping to catch a bit of coverage Sunday on NBC. Need to go check the football schedules for Florida teams.

Last week they only showed 1.5 hours of coverage. I don’t know that there was much more than the reining to show. This week my NBC affiliate is showing 5 HOURS of coverage!

Chillax. Last Sunday the only thing that was going at WEG was reining. This afternoon my local channel will be showing SIX (count 'em) hours of WEG coverage - planned for live eventing SJ, as well as taped versions of the dressage freestyle and individual reining.

Wow, what a way to start an introduction to cross country!

Watching it now, LOVE Cool Mountain!

LOVE Jimmy Woffard commentary.

WmFxPt & Cool Mtn - that was just perfection. Worth a thank you to NBC just to get a chance to see that.

^^ Agreed. Beautiful! Made it look like nothing.

Totally agree, I was very happy to watch him go.

SOO Jealous of you folks actually getting to see it. NBC here in Texas is showing ^& cartoons. I am getting 0 WEG coverage despite it showing WEG on the guide all the way until 6pm tonight.

I’m just thrilled to see any horse stuff on tv! But the coverage of the XC today was pretty great- not as cool as being there, of course, but for a limited tv broadcast, I think they did great

And I love the commercials! They’re making me as happy as the action

(Except for those high fashion ‘do you love me?’ Ones- those are freaky, and the model has terrifying elbows.

What is the second part of this going to be? It shows this eventing part will be over at 4 and then more WEG from 4-6?
I’m very grateful for the coverage, esp on a Sunday afternoon, when it’s peak time for so many other sports.
