Do they even make breeches for people like me?

I’m not sure if we are proportioned the same, but I’m the same height and wear the same size in jeans as you in most brands. I like riding in regular workout leggings, honestly. It’s more comfortable and they are cheaper than the breeches that actually fit me well, especially when you buy on sale!

Otherwise, the only breeches I’ve ever found that truly fit me properly are Pikeurs. They seem to work best for us taller ladies. Have you ever tried those? Pricer, I know, but you can get them cheaper places like Amira or sometimes luck out with ebay!

check out Royal Highness at VTO Saddlery . They have a longer rise. They also have a “shapely” cut that isn’t so quite a sausage casing. I always liked the longer rise / higher waistband since i have a long torso and everything else tends to sit low.

Thanks so much everyone for your replies!! You have been so helpful!!

I’m a size 30, no hips/butt, but carry any weight in my waist - meaning if it fits my hips, it’s probably too small in the waist. Pricey, but my best luck has been with Animo - I have three pairs and I wear them CONSTANTLY.
In case it helps someone else down the line: RJ Classoic Gulf is a little too tight in the waist, Trophy Hunters are a little big in the hips and way big in the butt, Ovation Aqua X is too small in the waist. I have a pair of Carma Italia from Luxe Eq that are amazing, especially in summertime.

Same problem here. I don’t wear regular breeches unless I have to! Tights and breggings are my go to. The PS of Sweden breggings? The bomb! But if I have to do regular breeches, I look for high waisted, but have yet to find any I really love.

Pikeur makes some styles specifically cut with more room in the waist. I know the Kira model is one, but I think they make others. They last much longer than many of the cheaper brands.

Just to update everyone, I randomly tried on a pair of Horze Grand Prix knee patch breeches and I really liked them. Super flattering on. Of course I haven’t ridden in them yet so I’ll report back when I do, but I am hopeful!

Late to the game, but for what it is worth for those following or future reference… I am 5’6", size 8/10 or breech 30-32 (depending on brand and style), no waist, no butt, no hips… large calves and carry my weight in my thighs and stomach so breeches are a fun game. I MUST wear a belt with any and all breeches regardless, but my favorites fit wise are:

  1. Horze Desiree Crescendo FS - European high waist, 3 button, silicon on the fullseat… I LOVE these.
  2. Ovation Aqua X FS - Not perfect, but they don’t make me look like I’m wearing a diaper and are super comfortable.
  3. Ovation Celebrity Slim Secret FS - Again not perfect, but the slimming panel is great for belly pooch containment and I like that the white have a grey full seat.
  4. HKM Ms Blink FS - Not perfect, but have a European style high waist and are super cute. These are my back up show breeches in white and I often wear them for stadium if on a different day from dressage.

Others that I have tried that don’t work for me that I can think of off the top of my head are SmartPak Pipers FS (talk about diaper butt! I had to ride with legit suspenders on to keep them up), Kerrits Crossover FS (I had to size way up to the XL and though they fit, they aren’t flattering and the seat material split and cracked within two wears), Kerrits pull on tights (comfy and cool for summer but sooooo not flattering), Irideon (several styles), and Gersemi Sigyn FS.

I have had great luck with the Romfh Champion breech! They are the total opposite material and cut of the Isabella and the Sarafina. They have a wide waistband with three clasp buttons and really great material that is stretchy… no muffin top and priced fairly well around $130. Breech shopping for me is also a nightmare but I love the Champions. Riding Warehouse has them as well as smartpak.

I am a huge horze fan. I even steal my husbands sometimes.

I made the biggest mistake of my life though, and tried on the struck 60 breeches. Higher waist, new structured cut for thicker thighs, and a different paneling for the crotch. Literally never looked or felt better in breeches in my life. But they are pricy! And not full seat yet, but coming out with them soon.

I’m similar- 5’10, size 6 and super short waisted. My favorite are Harcours. Usually about the same price as Pipers if you can find them on sale, and wear like iron.

I was going to suggest the Horse Grand Prix but see you already found them! I find they are quite flattering on a variety of body types

Just wanted to report back with more updates…I tried the Ariat Tri-Factor breeches due to several recommendations and as much as I wanted them to work, they just didn’t. Super tight in the waist and with a weird saggy crotch. They were gorgeous and I’m heartbroken that they didn’t fit. :frowning:

I have a pair of Hadley silicone grip ones on the way to me. I have tried the Hadleys in the past but I think I was in a size too small back then so I’m trying them again in a size up (they were on super sale at Smartpak so I couldn’t resist). I will see how those fit.

Just wanted to add my .02.

I love the Pikeurs as well. I have a very short torso and carry all my weight in my waist. My legs are thin, so finding breeches that are big enough in the waist but not baggy in the legs can be a challenge. Pikeurs fit me the best and they really do last a long time.

I also wanted to add that the belts with elastic webbing in them are also great. You can make them as snug as necessary to keep breeches from sliding down without feeling too restricted in the waist. I use the braided ones which give an infinite variety of choices as to how snug you make them.

Thanks for the belt tip and the recommendation! Is there a specific model of Pikeurs you like? There are so many!

With the Pipers, were they mid rise or low rise? They have both but it can be tough to figure out which is which unless you are specifically looking for that detail. The low rise don’t work great for me but the mid rise do.

Just a thought!

I have to say, I am loving the Kerrits Ice fil. Comfortable and really cool.

Hey Jealousy-I usually buy whichever Pikeurs that I can find on sale! I like lower rise breeches because they fit me more like a mid rise, but I won’t pretend I don’t sport a muffin top in them. I just try to find a loose fitting top that hides the muffin top.

When I was thinner, I went out of my way to hide my figure flaws. It seems once you get to a certain size, that is no longer an option so I just embrace the fact that I’m a post menopausal rider who is still doing this sport.

Final update…I have found three pairs of breeches that actually fit me and that I’m really excited about!

1-Horze Grand Prix breeches
2-Romfh Champion breeches (I have no idea why these fit when the other styles of Romfh didn’t, but the rise is perfect and they’re super flattering)
3-Gersemi Sigyn breeches (on super sale right now at the Gersemi website)

Thanks again for everyone’s suggestions and commiserations!

I am dying to try a pair of hacks and hills breeches. https://www.ca.hacksandhills.com/ haven’t yet but they apparently are made for the muffin top. I live largely in full seat riding tights in the summer particularly Dublin and kerrits.
