Thinking about a pair of carhartts for the barn, do you wear them? Why or why not?
You betcha. Have 20-year old brown insulated bibs that have birthed foals, wrapped scores of legs, mucked hundreds of stalls, been slept on, pooped on and thrown up on (cat, dog and child, respectively), been washed, lost, found and are still going strong! Worth every penny of the $25 I paid for them in 1989! :yes:

I wear the black heavy weight overalls for the coldest weather (like now, with -4 windchills!). I can go out in 25 mph wind and be WARM and really comfortable. It is the one thing that makes these sorts of conditions bearable.
I also have the light brown coverall, and I wear that when it is a little warmer, like to 15 or 20. It is not as warm as the black overalls. I like that it keeps all my clothes clean, so I can wear “regular” clothes to the barn.
Both impede movement a little, so I don’t wear them until it gets really cold, when, at that point, I’d trade a little mobility for warmth.
I have the other brand tractor supply carries.

Yup…just got new ones this week. They are on sale at Tractor Supply for 30% off. Had the old ones for years/died last year. They only used to come in 2 shades of brown. Now they have green, burgundy and pink too…though I ended up with good old brown again.
The other brand TSC carries (Schmidt or Schmitt I think?) is also on sale…I got one them in a hoodie lined zip front sweatshirt…
Love my Carhartts. Don’t know why it took me so long to buy a pair.

I absolutely wear them!!! I also have a pair of Walls “zero-zone” coveralls--------can’t work out in the barn without them. I really have no idea how cold it is out there until I go out to the truck to run an errand without them on then gosh is it awful!!! Waterproof insulated boots and waterproof insulated gloves are also part of my daily attire. We should all post pics of ourselves in them!!!
I have a pair of the double knee non insulated ones. they are awesome. tough as nails. my favorite part is how they get when they get washed alot, color fades and they get pretty soft compared to when new!
Carhartt coats: absolutely. Nothing says “barn manager” like a Carhartt jacket!

Ih ave 3 boys who work on my parents farm their Carharts have been USED and ABUSED and handed down the line!!! The girls and I EACH have our own Carhart coats ( even my 2 yr old) they are the only thing that ever stands up to the pressure! WE could not live without Carhats in our house!

I haven’t made the plunge just yet but tried some on at TSC. The Schmidt/Schmitt seemed to fit me a little better. The crouch wasn’t as low as the Carharts.
I don’t have the coveralls but they make some awesome socks.
I have tried the coveralls and jackets over the years and their canvas material is just too stiff for me.
By the time they finally get soft from wear and washing to become comfortable, they are dying.
I use insulated, full zipper LL Bean pants and layers of most anything on top and do fine, even at the -10F/ -60F windchill we have had some winters.
The “other brand” carried by Tractor Supply is Schmidt. My husband loves his Schmidt coveralls but I haven’t tried them. I do have the Schmidt winter jacket and I wear it for all cold barn activities.
Absolutely. In winter when it gets below 35 or so degrees, the over-alls come out. The low hanging crotch is sometimes annoying but otherwise they’re great.

OMGIH I do not know how I rode horses for 20 years without having these things.
I got my dark brown insulated overalls at Sierra Trading Post. They come in several lengths and sizes for women and they’re fabulous. Well worth the $65 or so I paid for them.
Heck I wear them around the house when I’m clearing out the thicket in the backyard or doing yardwork on a brisk day. I’ve even walked the hound in them on an uber-cold day when he just had to get out of the house. I love them! 
I have many friends who wear them. I cannot stand how stiff they are.
That is one of my pet peeves with winter…all the clothing restriction. Even boots…big clunkers that weigh you down.
Every spring, people tell me how much weight I lost, and I tell them, nope, didn’t lose a pound, its all the winter clothes that are being shedded.
I prefer to wear primaloft jackets, sometimes I wear a few for layering. They keep me warm, and are not bulky or stiff.
I do own a carhardt vest, but much as I have tried, I just can’t wear their coats or suits.

everyday it’s less than 45F:)
I do not have the arctic weight as it was too heavy for me to carry around (5’6" 129 lbs) it was exhausting just wearing it…

Carhartt ~ everything :lol: - my best buy this year made in August - clearance sale ~ new Carnhartt barn jacket for :eek: $25.00 and would simply not have survived the last three weeks without it.
