Do you support Courtney King-Dye?

Right. And we all know what opinions based on no evidence are like— what’s the old saying? Everybody’s got one?

But very often riders DO say how it happened. Ulla said that she was using a testosterone based cream on Rusty’s skin condition. The Irish rider admitted using Equi-block.

In situations such as CKD’s, either an investigation should be conducted to rule out contamination from an environmental source or there should be a threshold amount that must be detected before any action is taken. This is about more than just Olympic medals and records, it is about a professional’s reputation and could impact her livelihood in the future.

I can’t imagine this hurting CKD reputation she’s a big asset to U.S. dressage and has a bright future.

When the equestrian sport is taken from the Olympic agenda CDK will be remembered as one of the riders who made this happen.

no she won’t…if that was the case we wouldn’t have track and field… If the olympics get rid of equestrian sports it’s because it’s expensive and NO ONE CARES ABOUT IT except
horse people…

Oh god no! I adhere to the idea that the King camp stumbled a bit on the job because somehow, prohibited drugs got into the horse’s system. This is the reality of what you deal with when you go to the Olympics - zero tolerance. But I can’t imagine it was intentional at all. I don’t think anyone goes to the Olympics thinking they’ll use performance enhancers and not get tested. This is where “analness” is required regarding what your horse is exposed to. A friend of mine once resorted to sleeping in her horse’s stall. Drastic, but she did not fail a drug test.

Does this reflect on Courtney? God no! She was unlucky. SHe’s not the first rider and she won’t be the last of a horse who tested positive for prohibited substances and was exposed by accident. Similarly, I can’t even imagine that a star like Rodrigo Pessoa would intentionally risk a positive drug test. He’s sooooooo experienced at this level and knows the probability of being tested.

Courtney’s horse failed the drug test. If I had the gobs of money I’m sure she commands, I would not hesitate to send my horse to her for training and showing. I would rejoice if she accepted me. I’m pretty confident most feel this way as well.

In total agreement with Ridgeback, the equestrian sports will be cut due to monetery reasons and the fact that relatively few countries excel. Not because of doping. If sports got cut due to doping, we’d see FAR fewer of our favorite events already.

The IOC will never admit that the reason to remove the equestrain sport from the Olympics is about money. They almost surely will come up with the judging and doping problems which the equestrian sport had the last two Olympics. I think that Mr Rogge just handed out the yellow card to the FEI, and if London comes up with another case of doping the red card is almost certainly given to the EQ-sport.

BUT… basicly what did HongKong had to do with the Olympics, the riders admitted they never had the feeling of being at the Olympics. The beauty of the Olympics is meeting top-sporters from over the globe from every discipline and country. These Olympics were like a WorldCup Final or the World Equestran games.

And the FEI might continue (like they did once) to make the European Championship an open championship (also for the JR and YR championships) in which the best riders of non-European countries can also participate.

I can this this as well…but opening the European Championships up to non-europeans makes this somewhat of a WEG in all but name only. I believe this was part of the reason that they discontinued the practice a few years ago.
What are your thoughts theo?

When I went to the Pan-Ams in Santo Domingo almost all the riders stayed in hotels and did not stay in the athletes’ village, so they did not mingle with other sports-minded athletes anyway.

It would be a shame to take eq. out of the Olympics, but something would take its place and as long as they televise it like they did I’d be happy enough. It’s not about amateurs anymore.

The costs do seem out of whack for a few days of competition to this poster. Taking a fifth horse and rider who do not even ride for a team of three results. Canada, for one, could fund more athletes so they can come off the breadline. What will be will be.

There are so much things going on at this moment. The so called “Five Star” events like in Monte Carlo this year. I trully believe that the FEI would have muchooooo problems to keep their chickens in the same barn.

Can you imagine an organisation who will pay the judges (instead of giving them a marginal fee for their expenses).

Back on topic : I would go for an open EC, and as stated before also for the JR/YR.
