the triple crown is a “foregone conclusion”?
I love the horse, but his trainer needs to at least TRY to act with some class. It’s almost like he’s tempting the gods.
How about his reply when asked if there was a chance that the other entries in the Belmont would form a phalanx and prevent a BB win?
“If somebody did something like that they might get assassinated after the race.”
Honestly, I’m beginning to wonder exactly what kinds of “connections” this man has.

It’s ridiculous. The more I hear, the more I like the Japanese response. I can just imagine them smiling indulgently like to an unruly child:
Later in the teleconference, Yamamoto’s racing manager Nobutaka Tada was asked if Dutrow’s comments offended him. “No, not at all. I enjoy listening to his comments. It sounds like he knows our horse more than us.”
And then to diss John Servis and Smarty Jones too.
Hubris, my friend, hubris.

“I feel it’s actually a foregone conclusion,” Dutrow said during a teleconference yesterday. “This horse looks better now than he did going into the [Kentucky] Derby. He looks as good as he can possibly look. I can’t find any flaws whatsoever in Big Brown. I see the prettiest picture. I’m so confident, it’s unbelievable.”
On Casino Drive:
“The clockers didn’t understand what [Casino Drive’s handlers] were trying to do with the horse,” Dutrow said. “I saw him coming off the track when somebody pointed him out to me. There’s no way in the world he can beat Big Brown. He’s just another horse in the race. Big Brown will have to school him just like he’s done to every other horse.”
Dutrow has tried to sound confident without boasting, but he can’t help himself.
“I have been trying to be humble and modest,” he said. “If people think I’m talking too big, all they have to do is see what I see from the horse and there’s no way of me downplaying it. I don’t feel I have talked really big. I feel I have talked the facts. I’m right back to talking big at the Belmont because I feel we have the best horse.”
Facts? 
His statements only confirm that BB isn’t running against anything worth running against. If Dutrow can’t show any respect for the other horses running, then he shouldn’t have so much respect for his own. It just means the field is a joke and BB is the ONLY one with real talent… and bad feet!
Perhaps the fumes from the winstrol (aka stanozolol) are impacting his brain!
(Before I get corrected, I do know that there are no fumes with it.)
If and when this horse wins the Triple Crown he will be the most rooted against winner in history (which is a shame). And all due to his connections big mouths, cockiness and sketchy history.
He should just let the horse do the talking!
Do I think Dutrow’s comments are over the top? Sure.
But through the years, I’ve also been appalled by incredibly boastful, hyperbolic, distasteful comments a lot of other trainers have made about their horses while running down the competition. I used to want to choke Woody Stephens every time he opened his mouth (and, yes, I know Dutrow’s not in the same league, I’m just sayin’), Baffert and Lukas are famous shills for their horses, and I never forgave the horrible elder Jolley for his nasty, nasty comments following Ruffian’s breakdown.
And lest we not forget, Bud Delp was just as or even more supremely confident before the Bid’s Belmont, and we all know how that ended. 
So … I guess if I were in Dutrow’s shoes, with a horse who had yet to be tested and has done everything much more than right, I’d be inclined to boast a whole hell of a lot, too. It’s only human nature.
Besides, Big Brown and the other horses have no clue what he’s saying.

people who abuse both alcohol and cocaine are controlled more by the alcohol, it is a depressant and downer. these are people with “addictive personalities” they will do anything for alcohol and whatever drug is their choice. you cannot reason with them. yes the horse will will, but Mr. Uncouth will be insufferable. ha, and I used to think that D. Wayne Lucas was conceited:winkgrin:
This is true, but what about the racing god?
When I read the article on bloodhorse last night, I linked it to a friend I was chatting with, with the comment: “Dutrow needs to STFU, he’s going to jinx the horse!” :lol:
He’s trying to play up the horse but by saying that every other horse in the field is “just a horse” then what’s that say about BB? If every other horse in the race were phenomenal athletes with tremendous spirit and ability, THEN it would make BB’s wins look that much more impressive. You’d think he’d be saying how proud he is that BB can go out there and beat some of the greatest race horses in the world.

Er … because he hasn’t. He’s beaten a very large number of horses and he has, until this point, done it easily. But not even Dutrow would say there is anything yet proved special about this crop of 3-year-olds. Other than BB, that is.

I like the horse. If he doesn’t win, I hope Casino Drive does since that would give his dam her own ‘triple’ of sorts.
But Dutrow needs to STFU before he jinxes the horse if he hasn’t already. I guess he’s not superstitious, but … :no:

The horse keeps backing up all his claims!!! Until BB fails to deliver (And we all know how well Brown delivers on time!!) I am still on board with the horse.

Yes, I do. I am at this point wishing that the horse would lose (not break down, just lose, and convincingly, not just a nose) just to give Dutrow a smack upside the head. I can’t help comparing with the attitude of Michael Matz in Barbaro’s year, even before the breakdown, grateful to have the opportunity to be around a horse like that, but talking about his horse, not beating down the competition. And I think Barbaro had as good a shot at the Triple as BB but for the misstep. And Matz deserved it 1000% times more than Dutrow. I’ve hated the horse’s name, but his trainer is showing even less class than the horribly unimaginative and commercial and plain name of his horse.
I have a marginally horsey friend who at this point is actively rooting against the horse. Her reason? “My putting up with jerks quotient is below zero.”

OMG, if he doesn’t shut the &%$# up, I’m going to vomit!!! He is such a bad representative for racing that I’m embarrassed. As if the sport doesn’t have enough issues already, now we have an ex drug addict who has already admitted on national TV that on the 15th of every month Big Brown and every other horse in his barn gets Winstrol (though he doesn’t know what that is…to which I say bull) just because “Doc” tells him to! It is more than I can bear. He needs an intervention, someone to tell him to clam up, praise the horse’s talents, but in a more modest way. TRY to have some class for God’s sake. I have spoken with quite a few fairly high profile people in the industry who feel the same way. SHUT UP ALREADY PLEASE. He needs to take a clue from his brother Tony who is so reserved and nice. You’d never know they were related. I hate to sound so vitriolic, guess it’s been bottled up inside. Please someone stop the guy.
Big Brown is a fast horse, there’s no doubt about that and it would be good for racing to have a Triple Crown winner. But I hate to admit that to see this guy be the one to get it would ruin it for me. I’m not even the least bit excited. Sorry to say that. I love racing, really I do. But this doesn’t seem right.

He’s been down as low as he can go in racing and now he’s almost as high as he can go. He probably feels like he’s justified in running his mouth because he’s never had anything in his barn like this before, and he feels like he’s earned this moment.
Guys like him always feel like they are really great horsemen (or women) but never had the breaks that the top trainers had. They spend their careers feeling jealous and knocking everyone. They are always feeling like they just aren’t getting the breaks that they should.
The reality of it is, the good horsemen today are also good businessmen. There are a lot of talented people who aren’t good with the business end of it, so they never really make it.
We all know, the horses can make you the king or the jester.
Along came a nice talented colt who is flourishing. I’m sure partly because of his care, but partly is because of the horse. And Dutrow can’t stop himself from talking.
On the one hand, I can understand where he’s coming from. I’ve known other people like him (as far as the mouth goes, not the connections part) And I try to remember that he just doesn’t know how to handle himself in the limelight because he hasn’t spent a lot of time here.
I still wish he would put a sock in it though.

Either that or he’s cycling into the manic phase of bipolar illness. Seriously, there’s something wrong with this guy besides a former drug problem.
I also don’t understand how he can say the horse is in perfect condition. His crapastic feet alone are cause for concern. Let’s hope BB doesn’t spring a leak going a mile and a half. :eek:
Yeah, Dutrow is all those things. I am not a Dutrow fan, but it is mildly amusing. It makes the news all that more fun to read. And it appears the other trainers are taking it all in stride as well. The Bid analogy is perfect.
