Does anybody else wish Rick Dutrow would just shut the *%$# up?

I stand corrected - let me rephrase that. I haven’t heard anybody say anything negative about BB except that his feet suck and he’s run against fairly mediocre horses. Except Eight Belles who ran a damned good race against BB without monthly shots of Winstrol. Please forgive my lapse. I’m extremely sleep deprived. It’s the end of foaling season and we have one foal left to go of 57. But whose counting.
Poor Eight Belles… she was quality… (shaking my head) … what a waste.
Smarty didn’t have that look - he was cute. Funny Cide didn’t have that look- he was rangy. Afleet Alex, although had every ounce of guts and heart, was more scrappy - more like a shortstop than a long ball hitter. Real Quiet fell in the rangy category, Charismatic was probably the closest to the “big horse” look of the group.

I’m just curious whether you saw any of those horses either while they were racing or after. Smarty was cute? He’s a powerful looking horse in “person.” I didn’t see Afleet Alex until after he retired and Real Quite was a rangy horse while he was running but he was athletic. You’ll get no argument from me that Big Brown is certainly a horse with a lot of presence. He’s big, he’s fast. His connections seem okay. Just don’t care for his trainer.
I haven’t heard anyone say anything negative about Big Brown. Nobody. QUOTE]

Nobody? Here’s somebody - He’s got bad feet (I would NOT breed a quality mare to him for that reason alone) and he hasn’t run against anything even close to his talent to prove his worth.
Look him up on horse www.horsephotos.com he’s also got quite a bit of pressure in the top joint of the knee (rt), and his ankles and digital sheaths aren’t exactly as tight a tight could be… And the left foot isn’t as good as I had hoped it would look. He’s got issues, that’s maybe a testament to what a good horse he is. Or maybe how good Dutrow’s vet is…

Let the horse run his race and let his trainer talk his talk. So Dutrow did drugs…so have lots of other people, including other trainers. And who knows how many other horses are on Winstrol too. Just because Dutrow has come out in the open with everything now he is the bad guy. Alot of you on here are just having a field day picking this team apart. I for one really want a TC winner, and this horse might be the one to do it. If he does, Im sure the steriods will become the reason why, and if he loses, that will fade away without further mention. So no matter what the out come of the race, this team will not be praised for thier efforts by most of you guys and that is a shame.

I agree with everything you said above. I don’t think I gave off the impression that I dislike Big Brown or even his connections, but I just want to make it clear  I like Big Brown, and I’m rooting for him…I think the last time I was this excited about a race horse was over FuPeg. I don’t have a problem with Dutrow being so confident about BB either…I just don’t want him to jinx him.

To whomever posted they hate BB’s connections, my family is connected. Do you hate us?

It is a pretty big leap to think you know a person from just what is posted in the media.

OK, so he is not Secretariat, not Spectacular Bid, not a lot of great horses.
But I for one want to see a Triple Crown, and if he is the best of his year, he is entitled to give it a shot.

He is not responsible for his connections, and I for one feel there is a faint hint of class warfare in some of the comments being made about them. Comments have been made about the fact that he will not run at four because his owners have done the big breeding $yndication thing. Yes, they did. And Penny Tweedy did the same thing with Secretariat. However, Penny was class and old money, and was doing it to Pay the Estate Taxes on the Old Family Farm. Which was OK. BB’s owners are doing it to Make a Profit. Which apparently is Not OK.

Is there any way in the world that they will scrutinize his mares for good feet, as a criterion for breeding? Or will they accept any breedable mare that pays the $$$$ stud fee?

The latter most assuredly and THAT is what scares me.

For me it would be like buying an Impressive bred QH…ain’t gonna happen

I will not promote a practice that only hurts the breed…jmho

The Racing Gods

Hi All,
Rule #1 in horse racing:
DO NOT taunt, tease, boast around, or in any way confront The Racing Gods!

Yo! Are you listening Mr. Dutrow? How about some of you owners?

I love this horse. I even like his name. We need a TC winner. But, I can’t imagine that The Racing Gods will ignore the amount of bragging and bluster happening…that is, unless, BB is the real deal and The Racing Gods smile indulgently upon such human frailities.

Yo Hallie, spoken like a true racing person!

The Racing Gods are always listening. And I do hope that they, as the old saying goes, watch out for fools (and I am not speaking of the horse’s connections other than his trainer) because I don’t want to see anything bad happen to BB or any other horse. I just can’t stand listening to DD anymore. It detracts from the horse, at least in my opinion. Nothing in life is ever a foregone conclusion. (For example, the day that Tom Durkin cried out when calling a race, “the unbeatable Cigar”, I turned to the person I was watching the race with and said that the horse had just become beatable. Racetrack superstition.)

Racing absolutely needs a TC winner. I just know the flood of criticism that will follow about the steroids.

Bingo, but I don’t think the hint is “faint.” I think the snobbery is blatant. For that reason alone I for one will be thrilled if BB wins.

Edited to add: I do wish the trainer would talk a bit less, though. Mushrooms don’t get hit by lightning.

A little late to the discussion here, but wondering if anyone heard an interview Dutrow did on a California radio show this morning? Apparently he used a racial slur in referring to Casino Drive.

I believe it was on Willman’s show “…ethnic slut…” Dude’s just classless and not due to be a representative of the sport. We are under so much fire fom so many angles and he is stupid enough to be flinging around racial ish slurrs… Moron. It’s hard to like the horse when the trainer is clearly out of control, and needs some one to speak to the media for him.
And even when the media speaks for the horse we get a drunk sounding Frank Lyons on TGV heralding the horse as the king of the world. Bunch of bozo’s leading the parade.

I heard it. Dutrow is nothing if not earthy. I don’t think that particular reference to the Japanese has been PC since WW2.

Good thing Big Brown can’t read or understand the radio.

I think he has nice conformation. I bet if they give him time off his hooves will return to normal.

Minus the knees and the ankle and the feet.

I don’t see anything wrong with his ankles or his knees. His feet, yeah they look bad but I think they will be fine once they give them time off to grow back.

Support bacteria. It’s the only culture some people have.

I think the quote in Nikki’s signature pretty much sums up Dutrow.

And to quote myself from another post, I want BB to win. I think he’s a great horse and that he has what it takes. Sure I’ll be disappointed if he fails to win the Belmont, but seeing the look on Dutrow’s face will make it worth it
