Just looked at show shirts on Smartpak and everything had a wrap collar. Everything. I couldn’t find a single shirt without a wrap collar. Why?! Is no one buying shirts with traditional collars anymore? Jeez.
Rant over.

I hate wrap collars, my only shirts are the traditional ratcatcher/choker combination. I haven’t bought any shirts for a while, though (and I wear kids’ sizes) so I don’t know how hard it would be to find them.
They’re trendy. You know how hunter/jumper folks love fashion trends
the wraps are trendy, but the flip side is good news: that you can get some Screaming Deals on traditional collar shirts online.
http://www.equestriancollections.com/brands.asp?bc=503 Check out this place. Lots of Essex shirts, some wraps but also a lot of traditional collar options, and since they’re not “in” right now, you can get about 3 traditional collars for the price of one wrap…
Like pull-on boots, they’ve been replaced by a more modern and often efficient way of fastening. I like the wrap collars–nothing to lose, easy to fasten, attractive. I miss my pull on field boots (and, no, I’m not paying $1200 for a pair of custom Vogel or Dehner boots!). No zippers to break on pull-ons…
JPC Still makes wrap collars , Why all manufactures have to abandoned classic style for the latest and greatest is beyond me, There is room for both . Snap collars do not fit 50 percent of the people wearing them , they are to big and wrinkle down and look just sloppy. Same goes for LOW rise breeches , MANY should not be wearing them . It would seem manufacters are catering primarily to the teen market ( and the very skinny tall teen market at that) While tech fabrics are a great addition , I have to say alot of the style is not. I’ll take a cool max tradional collar from ESSEX or RJ and regular rise breeches from ANY one any day
Yep, I prefer the traditional collars, too, so I’ve kinda been collecting them when I find them cheap/used the last few years.

Friends don’t let friends shop at EquestrianCollections. Go somewhere else.
I too like the wrap collars, nice and easy to do up and no forgetting them at home! I really really dislike the current trend of leaving collars undone in the jumper ring (especially with a jacket) and the wrap collars easily take care of that issue…

The wrap collars have exacerbated the problem where I am.
I haven’t made up my mind about wrap collars. It’s nice not to have to keep track of a choker, but other than that? As someone else mentioned, you can still find regular ratcatchers (how’s that for a traditional term :D) and usually at MUCH better prices.

Like the new tech coats (Animo, etc)? OMG, when they make the very skinny tall teen look like a sausage, you know that the rest of the world should stay far, far away.

Ugg, you mean still open AND now a flapping collar? beyond sloppy!
And to RugBugs post above, yeah I stay away…far away from the new fangled Animo; Spooks type jackets. I’m all for washable fabric but this new overly tight, overly short look is just…well, there are no words really!
Mhm. Not a fan.
I was in a Tack Store in Franklin, TN not too long ago and they had a huge pile of shirts on sale with regular ratcatcher collars (I think we used to call that part of the shirt the “choker” in my day), on sale for $10!!! They were brand-name shirts, and some were the new breathable fabrics. The guy there said he could not give them away, due to the new snap fad. So check your local tack shop! When I get dressed, I slip the choker around my belt at the hip and button it closed; then I know where it is when I need to put it on later (I do that last, due to the year-round heat where I live). As soon as I am done showing I take the choker off; it goes back around the belt and then into the wash with the shirt at home. It’s not hard to keep track of.

I don’t know; I don’t own a wrap collar shirt myself, but I like the look of a button-down collared Oxford-type shirt in the jumpers or when jackets are excused. To me it looks neater than a polo. Do the wrap collars not fold down well to look like an Oxford button down?
I don’t mind their popularity if it means I can get a screaming deal on a Coolmax ratcatcher. If the embroidery is more expensive than the shirt itself I’m probably doing something right.

Oh, I have words.
Who is consenting to wear these fugly things? Too tight makes the jackets (not to mention the wearer) look cheap. It’s like the uber-thin $7 tee shirt that Old Navy invented (for those of you with a short clothing attention span, no qualms about nipple exposure and no clue about what happens in Bangladesh so that you can get a throw away tee shirt).
Yeah, that, except for in a hunt coat. But mainly, most people look bad. So how long is this trend going to last?
There are some words for ya.

I don’t mind the collar open and folded down IF there isn’t a jacket over it. But my feeling is that if one is wearing a jacket, one’s collar should be properly fastened. JMHO.
I have to agree with many of you. I do NOT like wrap collars. Maybe I am a bit old fashioned, but I like the traditional ratcatcher shirt. I also like the ability to monogram the chokers as well.
Onto the subject of low rise breeches. I cannot stand them. Many of us have shape and are not built like stick figures. Not only do low rise make me look like a plumber when I wear them, but they are often built for straight girls, not women with curves. I’ve found that many riders develop thicker thighs (muscular) and these skin tight breeches do not accomodate them at all.
As for the tech jackets, no can do! I’m a petite girl and they make me look like a stuffed sausage. Hopefully these trends won’t last. I guess I’m very old fashioned. I still wear pull on boots, mid rise breeches, choker style shirts and normal jackets! Then again I still wear rust breeches as well!
I monogram the wrap collars.
I like the wrap collars when they fit well because the choker is one less thing for me to lose. But sometimes the wrap collars are too tight/too loose and that’s annoying. Worse, SOME (not all but some) look really sloppy and funny even when snapped/buttons. I only like the ones that lay perfectly flat.
