Dog Show time!

I had to come on here because I was going to say the same thing about the juniors’ poise!

I love the camera angles I feel like I really get to see what the judge is seeing. I don’t know much at all about dog showing but I appreciate the live feed. Some really great looking dogs!

Wow, they’ve made it easy to watch the breed judging live. Just go to westminsterkennelclub.org and follow the links, making sure you’ve got the up-to-date Adobe installed.

I watched a bit of the Whippet judging online, but had to rush off before it was finished, SO! - does anyone know whether Whiskey won Best in Breed???

Obviously I will be rooting for him for BIS (being a Whippet lover), and apparently he is one of the favorites to win - but first has to win his group; I always root for the Whippet in the Hound Group, or really any Sighthound.

whiskey was beaten by bourbon!

Related?? Siblings! Both beautiful fawn and white  Best of luck to Bourbon in the Hound Group!

yes brother and sister. And it was reversed last year!

Whew I made it in time.
Didn’t see any breed judging.

So far I am not impressed. “The Westminster Dog Show is live fr==”

cut to commercial.

This is after 2 very silly looking people slaughtered the National Anthem, while one guy in civvies saluted the flag. Sorry, idge, you do not salute the flag unless you’re in uniform.

Good grief. Showing the world live how stupid Americans can be.

Long haired Doxie gets first !

OH, disappointment…

I thought Bourbon - though of course lovely - was not quite as special as her brother, Whiskey. He has the most beautiful, large and striking dark eyes. Dark eyes are prized in Whippets - he met and surpassed the breed standard.

Oh well. Second is still quite an honor, but no BIS. sigh

Burns, the longhaired dachshund group winner is also a field champion and has his junior earthdog title. So he’s not just a pretty face.

The Blue Merles have done well today.

I noticed that! You know, I know EVERYONE thinks of Lassie when they think collies, but I think of Lad, a dog. I read all those books by Albert Payson Terhune when I was a kid.
and one of the dogs was a blue merle.

Yes, Gray Dawn. I loved those books! You can find pics of the collies and Sunnybank and Albert Payson Terhune online but I was a bit disappointed. I prefer “The Place” as it looks in my head.

I am not a Dachshund fan altho’ I have known a couple that I liked, but I fell in love with that longhair. The look in his eyes was so soulful and he is so handsome overall.

I was also glad to see Bourbon after reading about her here.

this is edited out, new note! Just watched the cockers, in eager anticipation of the springers. Why so many champions? Best of variety best of breed best of whatever?

My BO`s juvenile Greater Swiss Mountain bitch is in the breed ring today.

Kinda like division histories awarded by earned points in zones.
Your Zone Baby GreenHunter Champ can become a Zone or Regional Eq Champ in time.

I’m guessing each ring is assigned a Group ?
Dogue de Bordeaux and Swissies are listed for the same time in the same ring Swissies are just showing up now.

Aaaaaannnd no audio

Westminster used to only be for champions only so even now very few people enter class dogs.

As for ring times - several breeds often have the same ring time and they just go until they are done. After each ring tine you can expect photos and the judge to take a short break. Most times we estimate 2 minutes per dog so you count the totals before your breed and estimate the ring time.

Irish, the sound comes and goes, but there is no announcer. OK, I got to watch the whole class, and I picked the dog "pulled out’ second, but was photoed as Grand champion select, as was the other dog I picked, handler in pink. What does that mean? Who won the class? I assume the last one with no real feathers was a puppy? I am pleased with myself, that out of 22 dogs shown I picked 2 that were there at the end.
