Doing business with JILL BURNELL? BEWARE.

Why can’t the stallion’s name in question be made public?

It doesn’t matter which stallion it is, the fact he’s in bad enough shape to need immediate hospitalization speaks volumes. He should NEVER have ended up in that shape!

Maybe, just MAYBE this saga will come to an end and the horses/people affected will have a better life now!

Yeah, I don’t get it. We go from making everything public to suddenly this information can’t be shared.

Thank you!!!

I just wanted to thank all of you for keeping this post alive and for spreading the word so more people wouldn’t get burned. And I’m VERY happy that the process has started to get those poor horses good homes where they will be loved and cared for properly. You’re good people.

Thank you! Your pictures are what finally convinced many of those who were still baffled by her bull. Those horses have you to thank for this as well.

Thank you, and as Laurierace wrote, you have done many people and horses a great service. Well done!

Happy New Year everyone.

My fault then, and I did say it was possibly a Facebook rumor. Although if you read in that thread there is a breeder saying it is Romantic Star (she heard it from someone close to the situation and that he was a 1). My apologies if the info is incorrect.
Yeah, it certainly wasn’t me!

What does ist help ??? Does it make the siotuation for the others different ? Would you be donating more or less depending on the name of the stallion ? Isn’t it enough that the horse is in such a bad condition that it is in a vet clinic ? Instead of asking details like who it is everyone who can afford should give a donation to the humane society. And help them to get more horses out, get out word so that former owners may be able to contact the authorities and give “their” horses a good home again - at least provionally !

What is wrong with someone wanting to know which stallion it is? Just because they want to know does not mean they will donate less. It just makes no sense to make everything public except this one bit of info. People are curious, that’s all.

Layoff Alexandra. I asked because if a horse is pulled from a property, I would have thought it’s name would be public information. That’s all. (since Then, someone has pm’d me saying its all part of the legal process, so that has to be respected)

Some people have personal experience with these horses prior to them being sold to this person so there is a curiosity if the ones they knew in the past are those horses who were pulled. That’s all. No, it makes no difference in terms the amount of donation at all. And it was petty to even suggest it.

Eventually they will have to make it public. I seriously doubt the hospital is going to allow her to collect whomever it is nor will the Humane Society if he is released from the hospital. I am sure there are plenty of people with fully paid breeding contracts in hand that need to know they can add themselves to the victims list.

Important update - starts with post #2388

Bumping this post in case owner’s and former owner’s can be notified. This is the first of several updates. Starting at post #2388 and several others:
I just thought I would post an update on what is happening with information that has been given to me this morning so rumors don’t get started. Although it may seem like owners have not come forward, they are starting to. To dispel any rumors that are going to be flying around the next few days, here is what is currently happening;

I have been told Marin Humane Society went in and seized one mare and one stallion from Jill’s property a couple of days ago. The mare is being well cared for and treated and the stallion is currently at an animal hospital and under medical attention. The last thing Marin Humane Society wanted to do was go in and seize the horses, but their first priority is for the well-being of the animals.

So no one starts to panic, Marine Humane Society said they do NOT spay or castrate livestock and have NO intentions of gelding any stallions, spaying any mares, etc. (a few COTH members on here were worried about that).

At this time, any horses that are, or allegedly will be seized, will be either going into temporary foster homes or being treated directly by Marin Humane Society until the case is settled or goes to trial. Currently the case is under investigation. As the majority of the mares will be foaling out in a few months, Marin Humane Society would appreciate any donation or local horse owners in the area willing to help out with the expenses they are going to have to cover in the coming months if more mares end up being seized. If you are local to the area and think you could provide a good foster care home, you are encouraged to give them a call.

All of this now ends up going through a judge. If I understand correctly, Jill has been ordered to comply with an order from Marin Humane Society. If this goes through court, Jill can comply…or it could end up going to trial, which could take up to a year to sort out, due to gathering evidence, witnesses, picking jury members, etc. Marin Humane Society/temporary foster homes will continue to remain the care givers for the animals during that time as well.

Marin Humane Society at this time is asking anyone who OWNS a mare, or any other horse that is in Jill’s possession to come forward. If it ends up that this goes to trial and Jill is found guilty and sentenced, then the horses will be adopted out. So their first priority is to try and place the mares back with their rightful owners. Anyone who has also gifted a mare to Jill, etc. should also contact Marin Humane Society at this time.

As well, those who have posted on here that they have allegedly purchased an injured, sick or thin animal from Jill are also encouraged to contact Marin Humane Society at this time. They are hoping the judge will also be willing to view evidence related to civil matters regarding the horses.

Anyone who has information regarding horses possibly being moved off of Jill’s property and being hidden in the surrounding area, you are also encouraged to contact Marin Humane Society at this time.

As far as the “living in the camper trailer on the property” and doing something about that…I’ve been told that is already being looked after, so no further witch hunt is needed.

Michelle Rogers is the Marin Humane Society Investigator who has been posting on here and is the best person to get in touch with. Her number is (415) 506-6236 and her email is mrogers@marinhumanesociety.org

I’m sure I speak for many people on the COTH BB in thanking Michelle & the Marin Humane Society for stepping forward and taking action.

Hopefully that answers everybody’s questions!

Added: I have heard the Marin Humane Society is in the process of setting up a donation page for the Burnell horses. Until that time, donations can be made directly to the Marin Humane Society www.marinhumanesociety.org
She had been at the Petaluma property for so long with no intervention.
Does Marin have tighter regulations than Sonoma County ?

I am so sorry for all those who have been wronged by this and other unscrupulous horse people. It was actually Krallen’s unfortunate story

So, bottom line is I could pay 10k for a civil suit to try to get my 16k back. The judge may or may not require the other party to pay court and attorney fees, and I don’t know that I am willing to take the risk anymore. I’m not made of money, and am so exhausted and frustrated from this that I don’t have much of an interest in spending another year or two emotionally invested while sending out checks to an attorney.
FWIW, I am far from the first to have problems with this person. But I am guessing the others have felt similarly to me, and ended up just walking away. My husband said he wishes we could win the lottery just to have the extra cash to actually go after this person, simply for the point of it, and because this person will continue to do things like this unless they are stopped.
that prompted me to post. This is a good illustration of why so-called “professionals” in all disciplines get away with taking so many clients. I had a similar experience purchasing a show horse from Europe through my then-trainer. The horse was alive, but completely unsuitable and lame. I too chose to walk away knowing that pursuing the matter would be costly and leave me no better off than I was. You can’t get blood from a stone. This trainer is very well known and is still out there year after year with new groups of clients.

Good luck to all those involved with this person. And to the poor horses.

Yes - she moved recently and Marin County wanted to avoid the previous county’s nightmare / headache. Also, I wonder if the horses health has declined as money may be finally very tight.

GRAY FOX FARM WEBSITE - does anyone know the protocol to getting a website shut down (and FB)? It seems pretty basic that the website/FB should be shut down or have warning alerts posted. As it stands, it presents a credible business and hides the scamming and animal neglect that is current reality.

Yes. Apparently Marin county takes their animal welfare more seriously.

Thanks for info Justa Bob

Not to mention the email newsletter she just sent out, glowingly reporting how happy the horses are in their new location, advertising a sale on breeding to RS, and selling Grande Divination.
