Doing business with JILL BURNELL? BEWARE.
So, Romantic Star was sold before the seizure and the new owner Ronda Stavisky is unaware of his condition AND is represented by Weems (Jill’s attorney).
I’d want a different attorney, than the one representing the person accused of neglecting the horse, if I owned him. Just sayin…
Hmm, guess it was a pretty good ASSumption, eh Saje?

Ronda is going to have to auction off alot of $200 breedings to her stallions to cover her bills. If she can get folks willing to support her, after she’s been enabling Jill all along. Not the kind of business ethics I’d care to support.
Whoever sold her the property must have been as good a liar as she is!
I do not get this statement.
I see no where that this property was implied to be anything other than raw land.

Thank you RMHP for posting photos. Very enlightening.

I couldn’t tell from the verbage if the land hadn’t been approved for running water or if it had no running water. Kind of sounded like it had no running water.

There is a picture in the group on RMHP of hoses laid out or running to a tank. I was left to wonder if they are watering the horses from the RV, or if they have it trucked in and put in a larger tank and are siphoning it out from there.

IMO, if Rhonda is truly entwined in this mess of catastrophic proportions she has made the biggest business mistake of her career … :frowning: … that could hurt her forever going forward

If the RS sale was a legit one, one would think that Jill and/or Rhonda would have sent out emails to any/all MO’s with outstanding contracts to RS stating that he has been sold, this is who now owns him and for the 2013 breeding season and beyond, you can now contact Rhonda at this phone number and this email address to obtain semen

That didnt happen?

BIG surprise … something smells VERY rotten in Denmark … and it isnt the cheese either …

This.

In spades.

Chileno Valley current weather (11:30 pm, local time):
40F, low to 38F, 50% chance showers. Wind 6 mph. Wind chill 37F

Thursday: High 49F, low 34F chance of showers, then partly cloudy
Friday: High 50F, low 33F mostly sunny, then partly cloudy
Saturday: High 51F, low 33F, mostly sunny

The winter is mild compared to other parts of the country, but it’s still cold at night. Hopefully (how often have we said that) they’re being fed a bit extra to keep warm and some weight on.
Even I, as a backyard wannabe, keep my horses in blankets or rain sheets in these conditions, and have them either stabled or with in/out access. These are almost identical to the weather conditions in the Bflo, NY forecast for the next two days. If I said that I had my horses out with no blankets or shelter in that geographical region, I can imagine what would be said. But hey, what do I know? Backyard owners are not always terrible owners!
For the folks who are concerned about the horses being outside with no shelter - the area when they are located is a very mild area - while we did have a bunch of rain , the temps are generally very mild… rarely freezing - rarely higher than 80 in the summer… In fact there are many many horses that live around here without shelters - so while this is not how i would do it the horses seem to be fine.
Are you involved with Jill Burnell or Maggie Weems in any way? You sure seem to be defensive on here sometimes, and you did the same thing on the Gwen Stockebrand thread as well. Just sayin’

In regards to the weather/shelter…the one thing we are ALL required to provide for our animals is food, water and shelter. I doubt anyone cares what the temperatures are right now and how they compare to the rest of the Country - those horses are acclimatized to that part of the Country. Point is, no matter where you live, there will be wind, there will be sun, there will be rain, and animals are required to have a choice, whether they want to stand out in it or seek shelter.

Morally yes, legally no. Some areas (NY included as shocking as that is) do not require horses (they are livestock) to have shelter.

What are the shelter laws in the area where these horses are? Guessing the humane society knows so…

Quick question, if she has sold horses, on paper only as per some speculation, would she not still have income to report? Has anyone tried to go at her through the IRS? These horses are not cheap stock. She should be paying federal, and or state taxes on the sales.
I would need direct proof that this is actually her place… like a photo of her standing in the middle of this. Otherwise, this is just heresay and empty allegations.

Whoever this house belongs to, they need psychiatric help. There is nothing normal (mentally) about allowing massive clutter, or dog feces to accumulate on the floor or not removing dead chickens immediately (for what it’s worth, chicks have a high mortality rate, so not uncommon to have some die, but they should be removed immediately and their living quarters, food and water sources should be very clean).
Chickens do NOT have a high mortality rate, i have chickens that are ten years old, happily roaming around, eating and laying! Well cared for chickens live as long as dogs, so think about what it would look like for dog carcasses to by lying around!

seriously. I hope i never come back as one of your chickens.
Whoa, way to insult the people who give their time and money to save all and any equine. Just because these horses are ‘worth more’ doesnt make them any different. Those ‘backyard wannabees’ are out there saving horses lives. How many top hunter people with tons of money do you see out there rescuing horses?
I didnt mean to insult the folks that help horses and there are a ton of them… however there are also a ton of people who have no business owning horses and those are the folks i am talking about… we have our share of locals who fit that bill and none of you would prefer the horses go there.

Unfortunately at least in my county - some of these sub par facilities do get horses and that is not good for the horses…

Agree with the person who said thanks to RMHP for publishing the photos, and for following this developing story.

And I am wondering how JillB decides which horses get turn-out sheets and which ones don’t. I for one would sure love to have a peek at the body condition of the ones in sheets.

no, i dont know JB … I am not involved at all, i just know how folks operate and i am practical enough to know that this thread will be used against you and the others… it will used as “proof” that you and others are trying to destroy her businesses etc. We already have had some of these folks posting here … so fwiw…

as for the weather etc. there were at least two folks that were really worried about the horses being out… all i am saying is that horses all over here - in fact most of the horses around here - live out 24x7 - and so the weather is not something to worry about… feed, illegal activity etc are things to worry about… and like i said i totally support your efforts… i will PM you for more info.

And in a similar case from late 2011 -
http://www.ratemyhorsepro.com/news/horse-breeder-arraigned-on-animal-neglect-charges.aspx

Take particular note of the charges:
“felony theft by receiving in the first degree, felony forgery in the first degree, felony first degree computer crimes, and unauthorized use of someone else’s livestock”

And of the fact that Stolen Horse International was involved in helping recover a mare stolen many years earlier, resulting in the indictment.

Maybe a similar course of action will help anyone whose horse has “disappeared” into the GFF herd without them receiving full payment.

Stallion owner right? Nuff said.

Rising Star seems like a CLASS act. I hope the sale goes through and Romantic Star has a wonderful new home. I have always wanted to breed to him and would do so if he was there.

And one more RMHP article that may be of interest…

Well, considering her “business” revolves around animal hoarding, animal neglect, and out and out fraud going back many years and affecting multiple people and organizations - and across state lines - maybe her business does need to be shut down, or at least until such time as she has made good on her debts and upgraded her horse-keeping standards. But I am not holding my breath she will ever come compliant.

New photos have been posted on the Rate My Horse Pro page this morning, as well as a copy of the petition. I could have gone a lifetime not knowing where they were dumping their human waste.

This photo of their dogs made me absolutely cry!

Maybe this case will be big enough that it will shake up the industry and maybe there will be more ethical treatment in general going forward? one can hope…

I am aching to see this woman behind bars, and I DO NOT support her in any sense…but the shelter/weather issue is bugging me.

Here it is standard to have horses out 24/7/365. Now, given we swing in temps from well over 100-degrees (up to the one-hundred teens) to well below 0-degrees (down to -35…and I am talking East if the mountains and not out on the Eastern Plains), and we have near-constant winds (I giggle when I hear other areas speak of “major wind event"s where winds are 20-30mph…that’s an average day here! Tomorrow is expected 50mph sustained, gusts 75mph. Typical of a system blowing in), the majority of people do have pole barns…at the very least. A good many have enclosed barns with stalls (some are just hay barns with pipe panels set up, but it works). The only animals blanketed in any way are those who show or rodeo AND are clipped or old. That is only a handful. Plenty show or rodeo and are fuzzy beasts. Grass here is basically non-existent, except in irrigated hay fields. Some of the horses have access to round bales at all times. Some have hay tossed 2-3x daily. Mud is so rarely an issue that nobody really thinks about it (ice is another story…except now that we’re 8” behind on water for the year and in exceptional drought).

Point being the outside with no/little shelter in a temperate location doesn’t bother me so much AS LONG AS the horses are obviously cared for. We know that’s not the case at GFF. The thing that is really, really bothering me is the black, deep, gross much in the tiny enclosures, and the fact no hay was to be seen in the pictures taken/shared. I would venture to guess the selectively blanketed horses are quite thin, and it would not surprise me if they also have skin issues.

Now I want to apologize for the book…
