Doing business with JILL BURNELL? BEWARE.
I found it curious in the RMHP article that it said the new owner “is unaware of the horse’s present condition.” This doesn’t make sense to me. Not sure what the legalities are, but I sure hope someone is going to repay all of those vet bills.
Let’s hope the new owner of RS bought insurance on him before hand. And hoping even more, that JB has insurance as well that could be collected off of.

Let’s say the rest of the horses(stallions, mares, foals) that are legally Jill’s, are taken by MHS, and are deemed to be not returned to her, what happens to them? Will they go up for adoption? I hope the stallions get adopted by a reputable and honest breeder that can continue their careers and stay standing.

I love the leg-up stallion list wow! I hope they are utilized by the mare owners who did have breeding contracts with GFF stallions.

Eta: I know the other stallions name has not been mentioned(anyone know who was?) but I really hope he is ok as well(he wasn’t removed was he?) and that RS recovers well from his injuries:(

I apologize that I confused Rising Star and Rising Phoenix. I think Rising Star will be a great situation for Romantic Star to enter stud. A lot better than the situation he is currently in and Im happy to see someone step up to the plate… Hopefully good things start occuring soon. Those photos are horrible :frowning:

What RSF is doing or is going to do is a moot point. The goal here is to get all the others to safe homes, caring owners and help Marin rescue fund the effort, as well has help those who were scammed.

Keeping the topic on RSF and any connnection with JB and speculating as to that is taking the thread off course from getting the $$ in to help these horses.

Backing out now. The auction doesn’t last that much longer, so let’s do what we can to make it a rousing success for the critters we all love and know deserve relief and quickly.

This whole thing is an engaging story worthy of a novel for sure. But the novel can be written later. The goal is to help the horses, no?

Its the older mares and mares in foal that I worry so much about - now that this is in the news, their chances are better.

Cash donations were easy to make through the Leg-up main page (for those of us without a broodmare :D!):

See this thread for auction items that close soon:

Agreed. The winds have been around 20 mph, today, and the forecast for tonight is temps going down below freezing, into the 20’s.

This just came across my FB news feed and it is extremely appropriate for this thread. https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/8812_390860124323329_429697433_n.jpg

I did consider posting it to JB’s wall, but I am not that brave!

Are we even sure we ought to buy the “stallion fight” story? Those photos show a property that is an absolute horse-trap - entirely plausible that Romantic Star got himself entangled in one of those junk piles.
No kidding. If any horse got out of that fencing, the property is a death trap of used bikes. I wouldn’t expect a horse to escape that tangle of bike parts without significant damage - be lucky not to break a leg.
I just can’t get over the photo of her dogs sitting in cages out in the middle of a field surrounded by mounds of junk. I hope they are rescued as well.

Yes, this is what worries me the most. The aged, open mares, and those that are heavy in foal. If I lived closer I’d take them here and foal them out safely.

This is what worries me the most.

This is so miserable! As for dealings with JB prior to the fall from grace? Ugh. Known for a long time what was up! And poor RS. A nut case far as I could tell from my VA days and now aged, not well and wheeling and dealing behind the scenes? May he retire with grace! As for others? May the mares get soft landings, aloha gelded, federalist retired and RW? There are fans and non fans …as said, whatever works for your own breeding program. But what a travesty. As ysomeone who knew of this person Pre her morphing into a “hunter breeder”? There has been profound decline in every way.

Having met RS, he is anything but a nutcase.

Why do you say that?

I actually think she meant Jill, not the horse.

I’m guessing by her VA days she meant she’d seen the horse when she lived in VA. No question Jill is a nutcase, but I’m not reading it that way.

Agree that Aloha needs to be gelded. Very limited scope wise (3 foot is a struggle), small, rotten temperament, and so on. Federalist is basically infertile from what’s been said on this board and I fear he will end up meeting a not so nice fate. He does not deserve that, none of them do.

Another take on the " Blingy and Black" syndrome in general, Blingy and black attracts attention. If u took a poll, many wish for blingy and black, so the color is very easy to market. ESPECIALLY when the foal is out of a good mare with a long performance history herself…

I feel Redwine has had the opportunity to breed to more top mares for the hunters than most stallions in the USA (in part because of his bling and the huge marketing campaign) … hence he BETTER have a reputation for quality offspring… or he would have a rep for pulling down a good mare.

no sour grapes. just an opinion about the breeding world…

One thing I noticed and maybe I just missed it but , there were clear pictures of both RW and Aloha …but NOT Federalist!?! Where is he ?

Geez what happened to Kathy’s wonderful idea to stick to helping the horses? If certain people would like to discuss the merits of various stallions how bout a new thread? Stallions we would like to see gelded. (some people spayed or neutered) I can think of quite a few.

Magic if you want to opine on the breeding world, does that mean we should have a discussion of your stallions? The thread title is beware of dealing with Jill Burnell, not let’s pick on suffering stallions.

Amen.

I let Elke at Windswept Farms (breeders and prior owners of Federalist) know about the situation with Jill and she was going to get in touch with the contact from the humane society to try and make sure Federalist finds a soft place to land if needed.
