Doing business with JILL BURNELL? BEWARE.

Hi Sonesta! Long time no see.

If anyone has ever had a passing thought about how COTH came to be and where it all started, well it all started with this lady. She was the very first member and very first poster on COTH. compared to her, everyone else is a johnny-come-lately. Which means that COTH officially started on Feb 23, 2000.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread.
You are bringing back a lot of memories… I remember Kathy Mann, Kathy Hickerson and Petra’s old list… and Scott Mann’s old forum, again with Kathy, Rebecca, Barb Young, Ilona, and Chris H, and Holly and Robert Reeves and Gwen… and Bernie… dear sweet (knew where the bodies were buried) Bernie… lots of memories of the early days.

I used to think she was a classic ne’er do well, with no sense of ethics or honor. But her increasingly erratic behavior pointed to far more serious issues, and now I realize it is full-fledged mental illness.

I hope and pray her family can get her the psychiatric help she so desperately needs, but hoarding is a tough, tough issue to deal with. (We are dealing with it with someone in Mr. DY’s family.) These people cannot see that they are mentally ill, and very few accept help readily. As Rodawn said, they need psychiatric intervention, medication, behavorial change management, etc. Many cannot be trusted to live on their own, because even after their houses are “cleaned up”, they go right back to hoarding and living in their own filth. They basically have to be declared mentally incompetent, and then someone in the family has to become responsible for them. That is a heavy, heavy burden to take on.

I gather part of the issue is from the first part of your comment - until relatively recently, it wasn’t considered a legitimate mental illness, so no one put much effort into thinking about how you’d treat it. It was just someone being lazy or whatever.

So treatments aren’t that advanced - and many mental illnesses even were there are known treatments, the treatments aren’t effective for everyone for whatever reason. That means figuring out what works and what doesn’t is slow going. Brains can be really quite terribly uncooperative things.

Amazing how much has been written (here and elsewhere) … yet the dramas continue. Perhaps this is the last straw needed to get this person the much needed help she obviously requires … which hopefully leads the horses to better lives.

Can you please do something to get the poor dog out of there? He/she doesn’t have a choice as to living conditions but I’m sure would like much better than this.
Please do go to the local animal control people for both horses & dogs.
Looks like there’s a cat in one of the boxes, too.

Thank you Yvonne!

For others…Rodawn in particular…

There are OCD disorders and other severe impulsive disorders! Agreed. MD here

But this is someone who has been very ORGANISED in building what I view as a giant Ponzi scheme…and continues to confabulate all over the Internet. This is not a mental illness of the TYPE that leads to dysfunction…this is close to a sociopathic disorder…the brilliant web page looking like Middleburg VA when really a tiny plot in CA…the marketing blitz…the homey email blogs…not suggesting not a real disorder, but of the malignant kind …and she has proved quite capable of torpedoing anyone who has crossed her!

Speaking of hoarding. A quick look at her website for the 2013 season shows SIX new mares. And she’s rebred the Radeschein mare who, while lovely, has the saddest shot ankles behind. Anything for a buck.

Well, if you blow up this photo, I’m 100% positive it is registration papers for Apricot Hill, owned and bred by Jill Burnell.

I know the filly was supposedly sold. Anyone missing registration papers?

Underneath are a set of Dutch registration papers for a 03/20/93 foal by E’Sops Fable x A which would be the broodmare “Laws Of Nature”, owned by Jill Burnell. http://www.grayfoxfarms.com/lawsofnature.htm

I think that pretty much proves it’s Jill’s place!

I had heard from many people that she is a hoarder and her home was shocking. Come on, who would have that many broodmares who wasn’t? Sad, sad, sad. Wonder if all of her followers on Facebook know about everything?
Please scroll the photo in the link clear to the right. There are documents laying on the floor with the header for Gray Fox Farm. I’ve taken a screenshot of just that paper.

OP, you may want to remove this photo or alter it. There is a credit card number clearly visible in the enlarged photo.

Wow… How horribly sad

This! As my sister is mentally ill, I totally empathize and sympathize with anyone that has mental health issues and their loved ones who try to help them. This isn’t just about mental health problems. While she may be mentally ill, please do NOT use this as an excuse for a lot of what she has done. It may explain SOME of the horrific things she has done, (and I DEFINITELY emphasize some} it does NOT excuse them. Most mentally ill people know right from wrong and try to live within the rules of morality and ethics. She does not. Dare to cross her? You too can receive nasty, vitriolic emails, phone calls and be featured on her personal aggrandizing Blog.

I know nothing about California real estate laws ,but how can she be foreclosed on one property and buying another ?? If she is doing it by land contract someone needs to warn the sellers.

This is so sad and I hope her family is able to persuade her to get help. I do a lot of house call vet work and have been to homes like this. Mostly the folks that live like that have a hard time taking care of themelves let alone their animals. It is quite sad because I think we can all agree that living in a home with feces and dead chickens in the tub is a serious problem and not at all a kin to being a poor house keeper.

I think we can also all agree that a breeding lab should never be so disorganized and dirty. If I kept my animal hospital like that customers would just walk out. There must be some level of cleaniness and order to run a breeding business properly. I have been to a lot of breeding facilities in the last 15 years, from the most basic to the fanciest, and have never seen one even remotely that bad.

For the benefit of herself and her animals I hope she can one day soon be receptive to getting help.

The horse area looks fine from what I can see. But it was only a matter of time if someone is unhealthy enough to live with dog crap on their carpets.
The horse area looks fine IN THIS PICTURE. SIL stated that before the move there were 30 horses in there, not the 3 that are there now…

This whole situation is horrible, it makes me sick to my stomach.

Good lord.

Hope all people and animals get out of that situation with no ill or lasting affects. And that people stop buying her horses, breeding to those stallions, or selling her mares. Awful, but it seems necessary.

Does her husband live in the same place? Is he trying to get her help, or just going along with what’s happening? So many issues beyond just the horses.

OMG I aways thought it looked like Middleburg too. It took me forever to convince myself it really was a CA website

I too am with Laurierace and am glad I had no problems but feel terrible for those who have!! I didn’t know about any of this till I bred the mare for the second time and it was already almost Christmas! I had been busy with work and wasnt on the forums at all!! So was totally in the dark!! I’ve had a hoarding situation in my family and feel terrible for anyone who has one or is helping the hoarder!! Best of luck to all and hope all the animals are ok!!!

I, too, hope someone gets the poor dog. How sad did he look in those pictures…

Her site shows 2 dozen broodmares, and about 30 breedings for 2013. Wow… She does seem to be a marketing genius because her site makes it look like she’s running a 4-star breeding operation. Just goes to show how all is not as it seems on the internet.

We were just at her website, she has 33 foals due in 2013. It’s really hard to look at it all. :frowning:

I do feel for you, and for all the people who are still doing business with her and don’t know what all is going on with her. I just hope for all of those people that they have received the correct semen and that next year they can get their breeding certs., etc. There are people on her Facebook page right now practically begging for their breeding certificates…
