Doing business with JILL BURNELL? BEWARE.

“So on the record”…really? Are you taking notes? Gathering evidence? Preparing for “the big one”? Good grief!

Makes it easy to sort out who that poster is ;).

Oh dear no. I’ve never been deposed. What’s it like ?

And yes, the airfare will be mine to pay, that’s why I’m hoping to get the depo date asap so I can book something right away. What airport, s.v.p. ?
So on the record your stating you’ve never been deposed?
Not that its really the point of the thread, but mares she presented to the AHS were not accepted, there was a write up in the AHS publication.

Aaaand the foals she presented to the ISR a year or so ago were so drugged the judge had difficulty scoring them, and scolded her publically for it. Who drugs a baby the day of its inspection to braid it? Smooth move.
Any link to this or is the publication not available on line?

Just to add in here, and I think I might add this to the EVA thread as well, I am unfortunately one of those that got the whole, “EVA isn’t really a big deal” stories. I did vaccinate, and she did give me the vaccine for free, but when I asked if I subsequently had to separate out my other broodies when I bred, I was told no. So, long story short, I feel a bit like an idiot, and my other broodmare aborted her pregnancy between her 30 and 50 day check.

Granted, I should have known better; I knew that EVA caused abortions, but I was trying to take what I heard on good faith. I wanted to believe that the negative things I had come across were isolated incidents. If I had dug further, I wouldn’t have an open broodmare right now.

And I realize that correlation does not imply causation, but someone much better versed in these things than I feels as though the time frame is right for that to have been the cause.
I am so sorry. And, I would make a very large wager that there are so many more victims out there who have had health problems introduced onto their property, and they never suspected the semen as they assumed it was coming from a reputable source.

Please do a search for Burnell and add your story as a post to all threads related to her including EVA. Please send a PM to EQUINE DRIVER w/ all of your details. While correlation doesn’t equal causation; there is proof that she was not handling the semen properly, she’s knows & discloses that one of her stallions has EVA; and there’s proof that she disseminated false / incomplete information on the risks of that EVA semen. Check your state’s laws regarding semen from EVA positive stallion – she may very well have broken the law just by shipping it to you without the proper documentation / permits, etc. As Equinedriver collects documentation, states whose laws she broke by shipping semen into those states without required permits, etc. can be notified as well.

Jos mentioned that the states and USDA probably wouldn’t jump in unless there was an outbreak; but I promise you that if she broke any laws shipping that semen – and IF there is enough public pressure and outcry; they will absolutely enforce those laws. I do think that Jos tried to clarify that this not a rare minor illness.

Sonesta was absolutely right in that if you gatherthe evidence and have victims to go on record – then you just need to use social media to put pressure on the prosecuter, and wheels will turn.

It just makes me sad that this is the tip of the iceberg of pain Jill Burnell has inflicted and as people put 2 + 2 together; there are going to be a lot more of these posts – probably quite a few from previously satisfied clients like the OP.

And yes OP, in retrospect, it would have been better if you knew more about EVA. But a responsible seller would have told you that there were risks and sent you links to the appropriate official documents on the web and had you sign a release saying that you had read that info, understood the risks and biosecurity plan that would need to be followed. Then, the semen would have been shipped into the state legally and with full documentation / permits / etc.

Be prepared for the trolls and just be glad you aren’t wired in a way that compels you to defend the indefensible.

Sorry but the house does not even top the THREE dead foals laying under a horse blanket outside her barn last year (2011) in the sun until she could dispose of them. A horrible image I will never get out of my head.
Are you effing kidding? She had a foal book inspection with dead foals laying around.

I read this and just started to cry :frowning: If this is a true story, I am so sorry for what you went through. A post like this makes me so damn angry and frustrated that this has been going on for so long and everyone has just kept their mouths shut.

Seriously, is NO ONE going to do anything? Aren’t you all angry? Sitting on your hands and keeping your mouth shut does none of us any good!

After reading Jos’s info. on the 2006 Quarter Horse EVA outbreak that involved over 2,000 horses and traced back to just two stallions, I don’t know about anyone else, but this whole thread scares the s#$t out of me!

And I feel so utterly sad for the poor lady who is currently getting sued by Jill because she discovered all of this at the last minute and decided she didn’t want her broodmare being sold to Jill. Good for her!! And I hope this thread helps her case!
Eagle: How did you find this thread? I may be wrong, but you don’t seem to be a horse person.
He’s admitted to being a “poor sap”

Yes Daventry, this makes me so mad. I can not do anything about it because I have never done business with the woman. BUT I will put my money where my mouth is and donate to anyone who wants to start legal action!

Believe me, if I had been ripped off, I would use my considerable resources to go after her.

The reason I am following this thread is that not long ago, a neighbor of mine was trying to rehome a mare and I had suggested for her to look into GFF. We both had seen the ads of foals frolicking in glorious grass pastures and the stallions at the hunter breeding shows. The “assumption” was that the place must be like a West Coast ISF or Hilltop and who wouldn’t want their mare to live out their life at one of those places. And to have that many mares and that many stallions, showing some with top professionals, you “assumed” she must have plenty of money.

Without the Internet, I would still be “assuming” that GFF is a 100 acre top notch breeding facility in NorCal. That either she had a fully equipped meticulous lab for handling all those breedings or sent the stallions to an equine hospital to handle the collections. I would “assume” that if a mare or foal got sick she would have plenty of money or insurance to offer top notch hospital care.

I do think the message boards can be very useful for policing the horse industry. It is time for those few deceitful trainers, dealers, breeders, saddle makers, etc to stop taking advantage of unsuspecting horse owners.

On a side note, with the tenacity that Mike and Roy have come to Jill’s defense, I “assumed” she must be a dead ringer for Gisele Bundschen…

Candico, glad you found out before it was too late. Welcome. Now go get some popcorn and a bottle of vodka, cozy on up in your barca lounger and get ready for the next episode of “Are you smarter than a 5th grader” featuring Roy Parker and his sidekick Mike! Love you guys! Kisses!

No, I guess I was not clear. I went to look at babies in the spring of 2011 as I was looking for a prospect to show on the line which is when the dead foals were laying around. I got the hell out of there quickly! Scary, scary place.

Word is that she cancelled the 2012 inspection scheduled for Aug 13 the night before. Apparently with the representative already at his hotel for the night.

Has anyone looked up the SIL,to see what her back round looks like? (did she post her name?) I believe the camera she used was Jill’s, I don’t think Jill gave them permission to take pictures in her house out of context, I doubt she said they could take the camera with them when they left, I believe that is theft…(How would you like someone coming into your home, uninvited and snapping pictures with your camera?) Where was her brother over the last few years if the conditions where so bad for the parents, the parents have free will to come and go as they pleased. They had a travel trailer to take wherever they wanted…

I believe people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw rocks… If what all of you are all saying is true then shame on you for kicking someone while they are down… Maybe if people paid their bills to her, she could in turn pay the people that she owes money too. Maybe our horse community should gather together and help someone who is in trouble rather then seeing how far they can be knocked down…

Personally I would much rather have my horses out in the weather then stuck in a 12X12… Aren’t horses meant to live outside?

I’m wondering why in some of the post by the SIL why she thinks the new place is so horrible? I didn’t know grassy pastures where a bad thing? just sayin. consider the source.
So on the record your stating you’ve never been deposed?
I’m stating for the record that this thread’s purpose is to support Jill Burnell’s victims and to prevent future victims.

Others are choosing to go on the record here denying and minimizing Jill’s bad behavior – acting as feeders to lure more victims her way.

Mike called himself a poor sap.

Wow Waitnsee, you seem to know alot! More than the average joe, if you know what I mean…

It’s AWESOME. You get to go on the record under oath and tell the truth! And, then the prosecutors use your testimony to put the criminal in jail.

If you’re the criminal. accomplice, or accessory to the crime – not so awesome.

Mandarin: see post 399 for the poor sap reference.
