Doing business with JILL BURNELL? BEWARE.
But don’t they require blood typing? Thought I heard that somewhere.
ISR/ONA does not require any kind of parentage verification for foals presented at the dam’s side.

Aloha and Redwine are both black with chrome.

Aloha, Redwine and Romantic Star are still on the ISR/ONA stallion roster. She only provides breeding certs for that registry and will not support any registry that does parentage verification.

Draw your own conclusions.

Arthur and I were trying to remember the name of the couple who used to own Romantic Star… maybe Gerd and Sarah Something… had a lovely farm in VA… he was their shining star (back in about 2001). They took impeccable care of him. We were surprised when we heard they had sold him (it would be like Arno selling Traum). They must be sick about all of this.

DISCLAIMER - these are my opinions & feelings only. I am not an expert in anything. People need to do their own research & make their own decisions.
This is like awful deja vu. About 3 months ago when I ended up on the CotH forums - probably over some horse health issue as it’s always a legitimate concern that leads me into this labrynth… Anyway, 3 months ago I ended up opening rappazzini09’s “stolen filly…i need help” thread and was completely vicariously sucked into that ordeal – couldn’t sleep I was so appalled. I regaled my husband with the entire blow by blow on that one - he was able to sleep.

So, tonight I stop back by and make the mistake of perusing the “newest posts”, & it’s the same JB. What an awful, awful mess!

My prayers & kudos are to the SIL, because I am sure that she and her husband had their own life and challenges prior to suddenly having to take in his parents and delve into the JB mess, and it sounds like the parents’ life savings (and probably any fixed income they might have had) went into the foreclosed property. The SiL and brother deserve major credit for taking the time to reach out to try to stop further damage – they are really going above and beyond during what has to be an unbelievably difficult time.

My one recommendation (based on absolutely zero expertise) would be for them to consult with an attorney – especially with regards to the parents. I would hate to see the parents somehow linked into JB’s business doings on paper somewhere and end up in any way liable for her messes - financial or otherwise. From what I have read, my opinion is that JB is incredibly manipulative, and somebody needs to make sure that there aren’t credit cards / loans / etc. taken out in the parents’ names. My grandfather once cosigned a credit card for an aunt for a card w/ a $250 limit, and unbeknownst to him, the credit card company kept raising the credit limit until they came after him for the $5,000 she couldn’t pay. So, pulling the parents’ credit reports monthly for a while and requesting a fraud lock from the 3 credit agencies would be a god idea. Making sure that JB doesn’t have any kind of Power of Attorney to act on behalf of the parents. Those poor parents have been through the wringer, and I just think a legal consultation to make sure they are as protected from JB as possible is critical – and, based on the pictures, the parents may have some grounds to pursue some kind of action against JB. There are lawyers that specialize in “elder” issues, and I know I had a professor who did a lot of pro-bono work for seniors. But a good lawyer would be money well spent, I think.

Anyway, prayers and jingles to the SiL, the brother, and the parents during this difficult time.

Lastly, I’ve been known to have some baby birds in a bathtub on occasion – clean and ALIVE, and I was using it as my “sick ward” or as the baby waterfowl indoor pool. But it was our extra bathtub, and it was cleaned and sanitized. The dead birds and random trash in the tub were super disturbing, so I couldn’t really keep looking. I’m damn sure motivated to clear out some clutter though – YIKES!!!

From (occasionally) watching Hoarders type shows, many times the hoarders do have a background in the medical field. Of course, many might be saying nurse or other trained person, and actually mean they are home health aides or other untrained people. In fact almost every article I’ve read about this problem has discussed the health care link, and no one knows why so many people who go on these shows and are level 5 (the worst level) hoarders are in the field (or in many cases used to be once the show airs).

And I have read that the new DSM V will include hoarding as an actual diagnosis. Does this mean that hoarders will be a protected class and able to get disability payments? And will this complicate intervention by codes enforcement? Something to think about.

I have to wonder why so many people want to make this not her fault.

Sigh.

I am now going to proclaim my poor house keeping skills are a mental illness (and no my house does not look anywhere near that bad).

OP, so glad you were able to get your elderly in laws out of her grasp and into a better situation.
So we know she has an active FB and even the likes of Brandon Gibson are on there recently begging for her to respond to them. You know THEE Brandon Gibson that handled her filly to a win at Devon.

Why are those photos not posted on her FB page for the rest of her unsuspecting clients to see ?

https://www.facebook.com/jill.burnell.9
Yes, this is THE Brandon Gibson that handled Arbor Day to the BYH at Devon which is owned solely by ME. I own several foals by her stallions that I have bred or have bought from JB.
I reported her page to FB - as a scam. I also informed FB that she has an outstanding warrant. MAYBE they will do something for it…

Also, what do you guys think about starting a FB page AGAINST her and let people know what they might be getting into? I’d be willing to start it. If we can combat her excellent FB presence it might make more of a difference so noone else gets screwed…
There was a FB page against her started a few weeks ago. Not sure if it was taken down voluntarily or if FB pulled the plug in response her JB’s inevitable lawsuit threat. I think that is her favorite word.
Maybe someone should put a cross-post on the H/J forum. Sadly, as long as h/j breeding judges keep putting the Redwine foals up at breeding shows, and people keeping falling all over themselves to buy them, and breeding trainers/handlers keep referring clients to GFF, the madness will continue.

And I would not be surprised to learn that Eagle74 is JB herself.
So Gibson and I should have our animals blackballed? All I did was follow recommendations I got mainly from this forum and thankfully got away unscathed with a nice filly. I don’t see why I should be punished for that. I guarantee you that my filly hasn’t done anything to be punished for either. It’s not like I bought a puppy mill puppy. She was born in my barn, pulled out with my hands and resuscitated with my own breath. That is as homebred as they can come.

You can’t be serious? So you are asking judges everywhere to “compromise” their code of ethics and not place a horse that they “think” might be a Redwine foal, that likely does NOT belong to Jill, and owned by one of her innocent and unsuspecting clients…and that’s going to put her out of business.

Interesting point. If you do a search you’ll find all sorts of threads about Jill, Gray Fox Farm and Redwine. There are many many posters who at one time recommended Jill and /or Redwine very highly, many specifically complimented her customer service. I wonder if they were just flat wrong or if something happened to drastically change things.

Let’s not bash the owners of Horses sired by JB stallion. They are victims as well. I hope this community can bands together to support them with constructive advise “if asked for” and keep the focus on JB and her issues. Laurie and Brandon are owners who ultimately got lucky with their get. Please leave them out of this mess.

I usually don’t post often, but follow the thread as a person who never got her breeding fulfilled as Federalist semen was very poor, several years in a rowI’ve cut my losses and am moving on, but I too lost sleep wondering at what point things turned. I remember when Jill was only breedin 2-4 mares. Although I’d never recommend her, I am curious why non of her"friends" have stepped in to help.

Sorry to all effected and my heart goes out to the SIL, brother and parents.

I think everyone needs to step back and re-think what you are posting! You are replying to one “accusation” from a sister-in-law and crucifying Jill off the post. I’ve been to GFF 6 times in the last 5 months ( see attached photos ) and have seen zero evidence of any abuse or mistreatment of any Horse. The Stallions are gorgeous and well cared for, there hasn’t been any evidence of overcrowding and the horses have always approached Jill without any hesitation. You’re messing with someone’s lively hood by jumping on the bandwagon and I would be very careful about posting defamatory statements without any basis for doing so. I can’t vouch for the inside of the house as I never went in but to be honest, it isn’t anyone’s business but Jill’s! Three times when I was there, the parents drove away on their own, if they were being abused I would bet they could have jumped in their car and left. In regards to Animal Control coming, does anyone have any reports or code infractions to validate the accusations? Post them! If anyone would like, PM me with your number and I will call you with my observations! I’ve been there, the pictures show the conditions of the horses and the pastures so if you haven’t been there yourself, maybe it’s best you keep your comments to yourself!

After viewing the photos you placed on photobucket, how can you state that “there is no evidence of overcrowding”? There isn’t a scrap of grass or shade anywhere, the babies and dams are confined to small dirt pens. How is this not overcrowding? How is having no shelter from the elements (not even a freaking run in shed) acceptable care?

I would never want one of my mares at Jill’s “farm”. Period.

Again and it was bashed before but Jill’s farm is the equine equivalent to a puppy mill. It makes me so very sad that she has a number of really classy horses that don’t deserve to live in those conditions. Feel even more sadness for the mare owners who sold their nice girls to her believing they were going to a good home and now have to live with knowing the truth about who/where they are with no ability to get them back.

I feel even worse for the good people who have stood up for her and put their reputations on the line as friends /co workers. It must be a really bad feeling to want to help someone but be unable to because they will not begin to help themselves.
No. If the foal is presented at the mare’s side then ISR/Old NA does not do any type of parentage verification.

LOL, one of the people who pushed her the most was “spacley”, remember her? She TOO was a hoarder and a crook who had several warrants out for her, and who lost all her horses for non-payment of board.

It REALLY is important sometimes to know who is talking. There are many people on these boards who are not the people they present themselves to be.

I have never had any dealings with Jill or thoughts one way or another, but really find it strange that many people I absolutely trust have befriended her, and many others that I also absolutely trust, are adamantly against her.

The climate is what is allowing the lack of sheds. I just looked it up, and it is a high of barely low 80s for the worst of the summer. Dropping as a low to around 40 for the coldest nights. That is just an ideal climate. Does she have a barn and stalls for newborns? No horse is going to suffer at 80, or 40 degrees. It is delightful.

The horses appear to be in great shape from the photos, so unless others are hidden away, not sure that is abuse.

I have never been to CA, but it seems most horses out on the west coast are living with no grass, in pipe corrals? Not for me, but I am not sure I wouldn’t do that if that IS what choice I had.

As a stallion owner in a very limited home, I also set up my lab in the kitchen. Unfortunately for me, I did it almost daily, for many years. If I had a collection, I cleaned my kitchen, and brought in all of my breeding equipment that is stored in 3 rubber tubs in my barn, and set it all up.

As soon as the collection was packed up, everything went back in the tubs, and carried back to storage. Trust me, if anything had been left out, my family would have squealed. Especially my son who would walk much faster passing thru if he saw what I was doing.

I produced very good quality semen doing it this way - far better than 2 of our local Repro specialty places that had previously collected my stallion.

That said, if the SIL’s photos are correct, that is really sad.

This situation is very confusing when I look it who’s opinion I have confidence in.

She hasn’t been too active on FB lately either. You never know about people do you?

The pictures show quite a few credit card numbers, complete with security code. Can we please get them removed. Better yet- if you know any of those people, tell them to have their cc# changed!

IMO, it is really important to spell out Jill Burnell & Gray Fox Farm – and make sure that mares are being sought by her husbnd, Alex Burnell.

There is a nice poster, JB; and others have pointed out that there are reputable farms w/ similar names (grey vs. gray). Anyway, I just think it is important factually and visually to spell out the names for future potential victims.
Gimme a break with the “my house is a mess too” statement.

My house is NOT a place of business and obviously if I am doing business with you and you decide not to have a seperate area to handle my product (horse semen in this case), then your business is my business (pardon the word play).

If she has a seperate lab then give me proof of that… Otherwise I have no choice but to take the word of the sister in law that her work space was not only less than sterile but actually a germ infested and possibly HAZARDOUS area that could cause major health issues for a mare in reciept of this semen.

Luckily I listened to those who warned on coth before and talked a few breeders OUT of messing with this farm and the very unhealthy and criminal owner.
Not to mention the EVA positive stallion!! Sharing a lab with all her stallions in this condition with Redwine in the mix?? Mental.:mad::confused:

So, with a few exceptions, we almost never notice the poster. E.g. there is a poster here who boards at our trainer’s farm… we barely know her.
