"DOUBLE JEOPARDY!" - Old Horse Show Trivia

Okay Shorty, one last guess. Was it Wooley?

Bumpkin, or whomever, can’t even remember, was the winner Michael Page?

Hmmm, Susan Burr owned & showed Wee Ken, but that may have been early on…Maureen Kelly??

but no clue as to the riders.

I did ponies for one year and that was enough!

the equitation horse Alice borrowed was Night Life. I remember it well. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Another one to Abby!

NO NO NO to yd!

THINK…who have we mentioned often, and wonder all the time about and don’t know where she is???

Since we seem to be hung up on Tergonwell. Who was he sold to in Calif.? And where is that person now??

Soooooooooooo many years ago they not only did Appointments Classes, they did Ladies to Ride Appointment Classes. That gave some of us ladies additional chances to ride good hunters as the owners really wanted them to go in ALL the classes.

The flask usually should have Sherry or tea but Brandy or a “toddy” that would warm your soul when the weather got chilly was used alot. And yes, they actually did open the sandwich case and the flask. An occasional brave judge might take a pinch taste of the sandwich but several felt it was their job to make sure the “toddy” was fresh and not left over from another show!!

Also, a large “safety pin” was required on the stock in case of an accident in the field the stock becomes a bandage and the pin secures it. Buff or canary breeches, FLAT bridles (no rolled, raised or fancy stiching!!), regular cavesson noseband (no dropped, figure 8 or anything else).

AND THE GIRTH ! ! Oh my don’t forget the girth. A flat triple folded leather girth without elastic, no “shape” to it and the open folded part away from the front legs. Also, properly done the girth would be equal on each side of the horse…same number of holes from the top.

Oh Yeah…the bridle would be offensive if the buckles weren’t the same on both sides…aligned with the eyes so you had extra room to go up if the bridle broke. (The bit was always stitched in and I believe the other buckles were an option but I could be wrong).

Properly done I think I remember they should have 36 to 42 (or something like that) braids depending on the length of the horses neck, the tail should be braided WITHOUT the end on the outside in a snail curl cause that would get caught in the brambles as you galloped through the woods…

Geez, we had a great time, sort of makes you tear up a little and realize just how much of the tradition of our sport has been lost in the name of getting the show done. I guess Appointments bacame such a bother they quit having those classes…

Makes one laugh and giggle with glee when you remember Diane Grod being shifted from one big horse to another and riding a bunch in the Ladies to ride… also Lucy Stewart, Linda Hough, Diane Langer (Mitchell then) to name a couple.

Wow time flys… bring on the advil… I get sore and tired just remembering it but it makes you sleep smiling!!!

Who was the big brown horse with rather a “plain” head that was a regular hunter champion, junior hunter champion and won the Medal finals.

And…what ever happened to his pretty blond, smart (Stanford grad) owner?

Only because I asked for “permission” to answer, polite person that I am…

Grooming for Kevin…what an experience! Boing wasn’t in my string, but Turf Fire was. And that’s all I’m going to say about that!

Yes, Sharon, I do live, but barely. I’ll be in touch with latest shortly!

Laurie

I’ve got it Watson.

Endlessly. Martha Sifton.

Nothing like a cup of java.

Who rode:
Double Dice
Determinded Dice

And this is VERY hard (seriously):
Who rode Balbuco to his wins in 1972 (Gold Cup and LA Grand Prix)…

one more—

Name 3 horses under 7 years of age who won a Showjumping Grand Prix. And if you can name the EVENTS, Emmet will buy you the cruise of your dreams.

That’s one right!

Here’s the Large Pony Model, also Ox Ridge 1969.

Same questions:
Who are the ponies?
Bonus points for identifying the riders.

Snow!! Like we have right now!!

this was before greg showed him in GPs

Loveable Truly I loved that horse.

Yellow Dog-
I remember the palomino horse that John Boy had but not his name. How in the world do you remember it? The horse never amounted to anything! I recall taking that little yellow horse to Fla. one year.

Another hint for obsessive types- you know who you are!

The Maclay winning horse’s name is mentioned in an old thread that just popped up. The trainer’s name has also been seen on the BB VERY recently.

Keswick was Champion two successive years who were the riders and the trainer?

Kusner! Something in the nether reaches of my very foggy brain keeps telling me that!

Laurie

Sundancer - can’t find the question, but “who was Gene Estep?” may be the answer…

Who was the Bronze medalist (hrose & rider) in the 1974 Women’s World Championships? What kind of horse was it and where did it come from? (And who owned it?)

That is where my memory is from, too, yd.

Finally, a cruise ticket ALLLLLL my own!!!

Laurie

Yikes - you’re right. I thought of that one first, but that answer seemed too obvious! Dow Jones was the predecessor pony ridden to such success by WReid.
