Dr. Betsee Parker in fur!!!!!! Disgusting.

Good grief, the imagery in this post is mind bending. I wear and use animal products but at fur, I draw the line. However, I admire Dr. Parker’s support of the horse industry, just not her choice of outfits. LOL
Sell it and buy a horse.
(Or, depending on the fur, a rental property that will bring in the board bill on a horse.)

I could not watch the video of a raccoon dog being literally skinned alive for its fur. (They are dogs that look like a cross between a chow and a malamute and they are frequently mislabeled so consumers don’t realize they are wearing a dog.)
Or the video that had multiple skinned animals in a heap, still blinking and vocalizing.
I was traumatized enough by the horrified comments.

Whatever cow made my saddle was assuredly not killed like that.
How can people actually still support the fur industry? It’s horrifying and cruel…absolutely disgusting. Leather saddles - I get it. Cows aren’t boiled and skinned alive. Have any of you actually been to a fur farm? I still have bloody nightmares about the place I had to go to for an Insurance inspection. If you knew the practices, you might understand why the OP is so disgusted.

Hope those who are posting about how warm they are can stop and think for one second the hell those animals went through for your fashion choice.

Also have a mink and love it.

Plus, have you ever MET a Mink? Those effers are mean as hell and deserve to be made into coats.

(THAT WAS A JOKE)
ybiaw, I have been having a hellish morning and needed that laugh!! Thank you!

I don’t wear fur, but in general, I think we would all be disgusted if we knew the practices of processing large volumes of animals. For instance, the grinding up of live, unwanted males chicks. Pretty unpleasant all this making of dead animals no matter how you think about it. I’m sure the cows aren’t pleased with being knocked in the head and cut while they are alive and merely stunned.

Kisses!

SmartAlex - yes…and I am disgusted at all of it. I realize many people don’t care and like to avoid the real sick issues of this world. However, the benefits of wearing fur are practically 0 - we don’t need it to be warm, lots of other warm clothing available now, it’s just a fashion statement and an unnecessary one at that.

It looks like real fur. She must have been roasting. Even a “cold” day in Wellington hardly requires fur. That said, she can wear what she pleases. Does the OP use synthetic boots? Tack?

Definitely ulcers.

I am addressing the post(s) that said that Dr Betsy

(do you all know that the Dr. is because she has an advanced degree in religion? How many other people who are not in academia go by the prefix “Dr” because they received an academic degree? I have a “Doctorate of Jurisprudence” – perhaps I should be known as Dr. Lord Helpus  )[But I digress]

should “get a bye” on the fur coat issue just because she donates winnings to a charity. First of all, that donation must be a pittance compared to her overall wealth. IF I donate $2000 to a charity, will people not be appalled if I wear a fut coat? Secondly, she gets a large tax write off for donation to charity. So the net benefit to her is approximately 1/2 of the donation.

NOT saying that she should not donate, and I am NOT saying that she is not generous in her support of a charity. But I do believe that the size of the donation should be evaluated as part of her overall financial status before people gush at the amount.

And I am saying that the wearing of fur issue should be unrelated to her charitable gifts.

PS: I liked the cowboy hat, if only because it covered up 1/2 her hair. MEOW.

Bless her heart! For me it was not so much the fur as the whole extraordinary effect of the ensemble:) But, if you are evidently richer than Catherine the Great should you be expected to dress like a normal person? Wouldn’t that just contribute to the illusion of a level playing field in the hunters? Bring it Betsee, and let’s see some more outfits and perhaps even a tiara or Koh-I-Noor diamond if the royal family is in need of some cash?

I hope you are not suggesting that the social use of “Dr.” by a Ph.D., or the wearing of an ankle-length fur coat & cowboy hat at a horse show, or the extraordinary spelling of a sweet traditional name, or cornering the market on a child’s sport is gauche??? LOL! Stay classy San Diego!

In 4 pages of posts, not one person linked to the photo…how are the non hunter/jumpers supposed to “judge” the outfit?
Ooh, how do I find a place that does this? I inherited a mink coat from my grandmother and it’s way too big.
Take it to a furrier, they are easy to find.

Really, of all the things to be disgusted at in the H/J industry!

Oh for crying out loud, the puppy rescue is hardly the only cause to which she donates money. Perhaps she should run by you what the appropriate percentage of her wealth should go to which beneficiaries before she donates? MEOW indeed.

I went to the CVS this morning to get my sick daughter some ginger ale, and the woman in front of me at the cash register was in full on hair/makeup, and wearing a fur coat. Since it was Thursday morning in a tiny suburban CVS, and I remembered this thread, I had to laugh a little. I couldn’t believe it though when she didn’t even donate the pennies from her change to the “take a penny” container. The nerve of her.

Count me as one of those who wouldn’t wear a new fur. It’s gross, and mean! Just as most of you would have problems with puppy mills, many (if not most) have an issue with fur-farming.
Inherited fur is a different story. No harm there, IMO. I feel the same way about Diamonds.

Perhaps BP can afford to have her sable ethically raised and slaughtered, lol.

Edited to add: The insane opulence of the coat, in an already overwhelmingly expensive and elitist environment, turned me off almost as much as the fur. But i don’t know her personally, and I can’t attest to her dedication to animal rights or if she is or isn’t a good person.
There’s no accounting for taste… but she definitely has good taste in horses, which is what most people seem to care about.

I don’t have any opinions one way or the other on people wearing fur. I grew up on a ranch and we killed things…fact of life.

That being said, everyone defending the wearing of fur because it’s warmer make me laugh. I don’t recall seeing climbers on Mt. Everest wearing a mink coat. I think it gets pretty cold up there.

The difference between the cost of a mink coat and a down coat is substantial. The down coat will keep you just as warm, if not warmer. I think wearing fur is a statement by the wearer that says “see, I can afford a mink coat.” Nothing wrong with that, though. Just be honest about it.

Here is a pic. If you look at a close up shot, I think she is wearing a polo shirt underneath so I doubt this was really a planned ensemble. I am sure that I have been seen in many fashion disasters while at horse shows—just no one cares to post about it on the internet thankfully:)

Well that is quite a statement outfit. Can’t say I’m for or against it, but it is eye catching and she looks like a classy gal.
