Dr. Betsee Parker in fur!!!!!! Disgusting.
Ooh, how do I find a place that does this? I inherited a mink coat from my grandmother and it’s way too big.
Yes, I’m curious, too. I inherited a capelet type thing of…I don’t even know what kind of fur, from a great-aunt that passed away. It could do with a little tweaking to fit me, maybe even recutting into something I might actually wear to the theater or something.

I do have a purchased-new rabbit fur trimmed hat. It is the warmest thing I own, and I love it. I have also ordered rabbit in restaurants, and find it tasty. If you’re going to eat it, why be opposed to wearing it?

It’s very nice to hear that Dr. Parker’s winnings go to a good cause

I don’t see the link between using leather/eating meat/etc. but not wanting to wear fur. They are all totally different industries. Why do people think this is a good argument???

Completely agree. Fur and leather are two very different industries. As long as there’s a demand for beef, there will be ample leather to be made into shoes/tack. No one is raising fur animals for any reason but to harvest their fur.

That being said, from a fashion POV I barely care about what I wear. I don’t care one bit about what other people wear.

I agree with a poster above, the outfit was startling. It was even a bit revolting to my taste, just not something I’m personally comfortable with. But I wouldn’t go so far as to condemn her for that choice when I would absolutely not give up my leather tack for synthetic.

Those who don’t buy leather goods or eat meat are probably the only folks who can throw stones here.

I don’t care what other people do as long as they aren’t running around naked in the street.

If someone wants to wear fur, that’s fine with me.

What I have a problem with are people who incite others to violent acts when they have an issue with something. You know, like the RARA’s burning carriage houses in Chicago…that kind of violence. Or random PETA people spray painting people’s fur coats.

I am contemplating wearing my inherited fur coat out the door to the office tomorrow morning, as it’s going to be ONE, as in 1 degree Farenheit here, I’m recovering from a broken back and it really feels a whole lot better for my muscles and body to be warm. Even for a short drive and walk into the building it will be appreciated. My coat is a nice full-length raccoon and my mom gave it to me when she upgraded to a mink. I feel self-conscious wearing it, because I do worry about offending people, but there is a reason animals HAVE fur - man, it WORKS!

Weird question: how soft is your coat? I have a friend with pet raccoons and I never thought of their fur as coat-worthy. Maybe they’re the wrong kind of coon.

I’m with those who say they won’t wear fur. Responsibly harvested animal byproducts? Sure. Can’t say I feel like most of the fur industry falls under that though. Even and inherited coat I’d be suspect of because I would not want my beliefs to be miscommunicated. I’m not sure I care if you do, though. I definitely don’t care what the good doctor wears.

I was so disappointed to see Dr Betsee Parker posing with Tori Col after her big win in the Palm Beach Hunter Spectacular wearing a full fur coat. She claims to be an advocate for animal rescue?
Not that she cares, but I have no respect for her anymore. She could do so much with her resources and that was the choice that she made? Shameful. ( not to mention the moronic cowboy hat)
Christ on a raft…

You object to her fur coat because of your animal rights stance?
You love animals more than she does? Of COURSE you do
You object to her HAT because of your superior fashion sense?
I suppose you are one of those people who are continually outraged about whatever it is you can find to be outraged about.

Perhaps you should share your outrage with the National Enquirer or the Daily Mail, or some silly horsey BB where people who are ignorant AND spiteful comprise the majority of the membership. (Heads up, COTH is not it… )

Her “moronic” HAT? Get over it.
You lost all credibility when you made that comment.

I know the owner (that you are slamming) by reputation only, as a person who owns hunters, one that has given the very talented V.Colvin ,among others children, a chance to ride super quality horses that they might not otherwise have had the opportunity to ride.

Disgusting? Really?
She may be an odd duck, who knows? However, we all now KNOW that YOU are spiteful, and perhaps “disgusting” as well…
I do hope that you will take yourself elsewhere if this is what you will be bringing to COTH.

It’s still the skin of a dead thing. :stuck_out_tongue:

And do you really believe all leather comes from western regulated abattoirs??

I have rabbits which we raise for meat. I have ear warmers and gloves made from rabbit fur. I dont like to waste.

The argument on fur is tiring. Let the woman wear what she wants. She donates a lot of money to the sport. Also who cares? It was cold like others stated. She wore a coat. For thousands of years people wore fur. Now, in the past 30 years, outrage is sparked. By people who wear baby calf leather as boots. Or as a saddle. I dont hear rants about how veal calves live, which is pretty bad. Perhaps Im not one to talk, but who cares? You are not wearing them.

It could have been faux. I personally would rather wear a wool coat or cashmere coat. Much less musty when wet. Also less bulky and less of a chance a crazy PETA person to throw paint on me in outrage. Weighing the options here.

Boy, if some of you think that’s the worst outfit you’ve ever seen in an awards ceremony? You need to go to more shows. I don’t know which is the worst I’ve seen, the bimbo pseudo celebs out in Cali with uber tacky clothing worthy of a street corner or the muscle shirt with biker logo and shorts on a hairy guy. Yes, I have both of those in the vaults somewhere.

If the OP genuinely cares about animal welfare so deeply, I can think of 50 other ways her time would be better spent other than making anonymous personal jabs at someone over the internet. I’m pretty sure that OP’s snide comments haven’t made life better for any animals.

This ^

But I guess it’s more fun to hate on a winner.

The BP envy is ridiculous. I understand that most people are jealous of her, heck I’m jealous of her (from the outside looking in), but face it: your sport needs more people like her. So what, her hair is funny looking and her style is a little off? That’s 90% of horsewomen. Her horses are well cared for, she donates a substantial amount of money to a very deserving rescue, an she has essentially made at least one very valuable future USET member (Colvin).

Exactly…it makes no sense the industries and purposes are completely unrelated.

Fur? So what.
Down jackets
Leather bridles
Sheepskin saddle pads

Besides… all that plastic and synthetic crap is probably going to kill us slowly

I didn’t know that the Most Revolting Awards Ceremony Outfit was a contest.
It was a beautiful coat and inappropriate for a horse show.
 Is there some dress code for horse shows that I have not been told about?
How is it inappropriate for a horse show?

ETA - I have never seen the coat in question, I admit it.
