Dressage - Michael Barisone

I asked whether MB had received the vaccine. According to the published priority scheme of NJ, incarcerated populations were 1A, right alongside health care workers and nursing home residents, as I would have expected from a liberal NE state.

Someone said that he had received the vaccine, but then @tryintogethere came on and said that she knew with 100% certainty, that the MCCF had not received the vaccine.

This was surprising to me (given the published priority scheme), but it also confirmed my previous suspicion that tryintogethere is something of an insider.

There was a pretty darn tangential discussion of county jails as “revenue sources”.

Sorry to nit pick, @Joanne, but I was not objecting to digressions, which most threads are full of, but objecting to the personal commentary that you insert in place of on topic comments or a digression. As @BigMama1 has told us many times, it is personal commentary that gets threads shut down.

Is it? First time I’ve heard that phrase. /s

Sorry to nit pick, @cutter99, but I pointed out that it’s the “personal commentary” jabs coming from you and @Joanne and now @BigMama1 that are risking getting the thread shut down.

Your call.

I wonder why more jails/prisons don’t have gardens for the inmates to care for and also produce fruit and vegetables for them. It would be very therapeutic for the inmates and provide food for them as well. Its been done before so the institution could use the safety protocols that others have put in place.

If it’s like many state and local institutions, they aren’t allowed to do that a lot of places anymore. Cause lawsuits

That’s a shame. I think it would help a lot of people deal with a difficult time in their life.

Not sure you want prisoners having garden tools that could be used as weapons.

Well there’s that…

Yes, but if working the garden detail was set up like working the kitchen detail (where there is access to small cutlery) then it may be possible to do again.

Although kitchens are needed. At least in theory.

Jails and prisons aren’t the only places where prisoner labor is used to cut costs.

I was looking for a particular article but can’t find it now. This will do nicely though.

This article indicates correctional facilities are in the 1A group for the vaccine. It is curious the MCCF has not issued the vaccine. I wonder why they haven’t?

@eggbutt NJ vaccine roll out has been a bit of a cluster to say the least, but this article explains that inmates have to “meet the same eligibilities, being age or comorbidities”, so they are not giving it to younger or healthier detainees or inmates

Our local rural jail was deliberately built to house inmates from other areas to generate income. It currently charges about $80/day for the drunk-tank that supplies cold cereal in the morning, three TBL of peanut butter on white bread with canned fruit and some kind of sheet cake thing for desert at lunch, and some kind of bulk food goulash/lasagna/mystery-meat thing for dinner with canned fruit etc for dinner. And a thin pad and thinner blanket to sleep on.
The extended stay inmates have nicer accommodations, but the food is the same. The jail is very pretty. They are making money.

John Oliver is extremely funny but that video is very sad.

As of this post, 23% of the posts on this thread have been made by YD. I know that she is working hard to make sure that we all have a clear understanding of this topic, and that we should be grateful for her contributions.

The very idea that this thread could be shut down is just appalling!

Again, the Ignore function works fairly well. I wish the block feature had been restored, but Ignore is at least helpful.

YD is living her life and seems to thoroughly enjoy the reaction her posts elicit. Walk on by…don’t take the bait.

Thank you for the article.

I think the part about vaccines only being administered to people who would be eligible outside prison applied to a particular county, and not necessarily all counties.

However, it is clear that administratively, the vaccine program is going really slowly. Morris County said they “were in the planning stages” three weeks ago.

I thought it would be obvious that I care not at all if “you” are grateful for my contributions. Your post above is one of the many “personal commentary” jabs directed at me which may get the thread shut down.

It is my impression that your (g) little personal commentary jabs bother other posters more than they bother me.

Thanks for the personal commentary, @eggbutt.
