Dressage: What do you think so far?

it’s notable that every judge had charlotte in first place-

looking forward to seeing the video

US stays 4th!!!

Yay, USA! I was a bit worried Sweden may leap frog us!

If 4th is Olympic qualifying, then Canada has a chance to get to Rio.

Just went to the FEI site, and 4th place does NOT qualify for the Olympics.

So the Pan Am Games are our only slot, unless the FEI takes one of the extra 3 European slots away and moves it somewhere else.

I read the FEI Rules on this, and the top three from WEG go. Then there are 3 slots for the Europeans, one for the Americas through the Pan Am Games, and maybe two for the rest of the World. Unless, of course, enough riders manage to qualify as individuals to give a composite team. There may be some weaseling about having so many western European teams, but I can’t exactly recall. I do know that the IOC limits the total number of equine competitors to 200.

Go Canada!

Ok, I know folks were posting top 4 qualify, but based on this it looks clear to me that only the top 3 qualify. I’d love a reference proving me wrong!

I stand corrected…top three it is! Trying to find where I read four…off to scour my browser history!

Four has been posted here multiple times. What I posted was the April rules - here’s a link discussing the proposal changing to 4 qualified at WEG, and I don’t have time to look for more to see if the proposal was enacted (I hope!)

If only the top 3 qualify automatically for Rio, how will other teams get qualified?

I was just about to post the exact same article! So, now to find out if the “four rule” was enacted.

I think it’s grossly unfair to have so many Western European Teams and so little opportunity for the rest of the world.

The FEI gives every team two chances to qualify–WEG and something else. European Championships, Pan Ams, and something else for the Asians. But they allocate 3 of the team slots to the Europeans AFTER WEG.

Qualifying rules for Rio are posted on the FEI site.

Per page 3:
1 team slot for the best ranked team from FEI Olympic Groups D or E of the 2015 Pan-American Games. That means ONE team from North America, South America, and Central America (excluding Brazil, who automatically gets a slot as the host country).

So yes, Canada and the U.S. will have to slog it out at the Pan Ams next year.

Surprised at how empty the stadium was/is…
and for the medal ceremony, they are asking people to move to the centre so that the stadium looks fuller… lol
and flags please!!!

Interesting too:
Germany - all top hats
GB - all helmets
Netherlands - 2 top hats/2 helmets

THe FEI rules say:

If FEI Olympic Groups F and/or G have already qualified a team at the 2014 World
Equestrian Games, this team quota place will be added to the 2014 World
Equestrian Games so that the four (4) best ranked teams from the 2014 World
Equestrian Games are directly qualified.

It’s my understanding that since Group G (Oceania aka Australia) DID qualify a team for WEG - then the top 4 teams from WEG get a spot for Rio.
I may be wrong - but that’s where the “top 4 go” theory is coming from

Read the rules again… its if Groups F or G qualified a team AT WEG not for WEG. Since all 3 teams who came top 3 at WEG were from Europe, this doesn’t apply?

^^ I see what you are saying. That could be right. Not if they qualified for WEG, but if they qualified AT WEG.

That sounds right…it’s if they qualified FOR THE OLYMPICS at WEG.

So assuming it’s top three from WEG, the U.S. will have to qualify at the 2015 Pan Am games, in Toronto. As in…beating the “home team”.

Unless, of course, that proposal mentioned above, to qualify the top 4 WEG teams, is now the rule. Hard to keep up!!
